Saw that. I still our ceiling is $4MM. But that would be huge. That would get Fleck. He seems to think Purdue is ready to commit big $ to its next head coach.
How much for the staff?Saw that. I still our ceiling is $4MM. But that would be huge. That would get Fleck.
Spin to counteract the "cheap" label Purdue has
CBS renewed their basketball only deal, but what was this additional fox sports basketball one? It's not spin if its true. With the investment being made in player facilities....it doesn't make sense to match that with a budget coach. Bobinski isn't here to play around. He's here to put his stamp on the university's athletic department. He has nothing to gain from following in Burke's footsteps. Mitch knows this and from what I hear, the BOT is on board with giving legitimately funded athletics a try.
An immediate, extra $3-$5Mil estimated to the bottom line per team from the new Fox BBall deal that was inked a few months backed helps as well. Let's face it folks....the facts have changed.
We have an AD that wants to compete at high levels. We now almost have more money than we know what to do with (relative to pre 2010s levels) and that's with a lagging Football team. Why not spend it and try to make more?
Would Chip leave San Fran and come back for that?
Start throwing that money around, suddenly every one is in play. I would think a guy like Chip Kelly would be hard pressed to turn that down considering his fingerprint on the program is still there. Honestly, if $10 million a year is a real possibility, suddenly a lot of universities are going to start upping the pay of their coaches. I think Oregon could get Tom Herman for half that and be just as successful there.

I doubt new CEO of Nike will dump all the money into Oregon that Knight does. Usually, new management wants to save money for shareholders. I have seen it often. Company Jet - Gone, Company Cars - smaller, Pensions - Gone, etc. etc. The Oregon check would be a huge area to cut costs.[/QUOTE]Does make you wonder as old as Phil Knight is, how much longer Oregon can keep this going unless they have another major supporter waiting in the wings. Not sure I can see Nike continuing to throw the money at Oregon without Phil Knight there directing it.
