Braden’s NBA aspirations

Braden likes to prove people wrong so if he is in the first round, I’m not so sure he doesn’t bolt.

I did a quick Google and the 1st 3 boards that came up had him at:

#88 - which means undrafted
Not listed in 2 rounds
Not listed in 2 rounds.

I think the #38 is an outlier.

OT: Duke had 3 guys in top 10 of all 3 drafts I looked at and 2 more guys in top 50. 5 players in top 50 of a draft is ridiculous.

If he could have kept going off for 20+ a night and lead Purdue to a 2 seed... I was in favor of him being a first rounder... But it seems pretty clear he's just not there. Best choice is probably going undrafted if he leaves early and just going where he wants. His NBA career probably has a ceiling of JJ Barea or TJ McConnell.

Duke has a much different recruiting philosophy than Purdue. They recruit players who are already NBA prospects and then they let them play as freshman, and then they say good bye. Purdue recruits diamonds in the rough and then develops them into nBA prospects.

Looking at Purdue, who would have ever guessed players like BiG Dog, joe barry carrol, Brad Miller, brian cardinal, hummel, Ivey, Edwards, or Edey would ever be drafted in the NBA at the time they were recruited out of high school ? people who are old remember when Joe Barry first signed with purdue. All people said about him was he was just another big guy. all he was , was tall. they said the exact same about Miller, Johnson, Hammonds, and Scheffler. and the latest was Edey.

Duke is always going to attract NBA prospects. i'm led to wonder what would a player like Flagg be like if he came to purdue and received some actual developmental coaching before he left for the NBA? how much better he would be ?

I look at Swanigan. he was a highly rated high school recruit although a little out of shape. he came to Purdue. and in his second year, you could see how much he learned and the improvements he made following Purdue's coaching.

This is my favorite part:

Big Dog was academically ineligible to play college basketball coming out of high school. I am led to wonder if he was eligible, would other schools have recruited him away from Purdue ? i know you know the rest of the story. But I'm talking about what these players were like before they came to Purdue. Who, besides Purdue was actually recruiting big Dog ?

the same was true about Joe Barry Carrol. Nobody paid him any attention until after he had already committed to purdue. and his freshman year at Purdue wasn't the greatest.

the same was true with Edey. he wasn't even Painter's first choice. He was painter's third choice.

who wanted smith ?

as i said, duke's recruiting philosophy is a lot different than Purdue. It always has been - even before NIL. it makes you wonder what purdue would be like if Painter recruited the same type of players?

You really don’t think any other schools besides Purdue recruited a McDonald’s all American and Indiana Mr. Basketball?

He was on recruiting radars in Jr High! You gotta be trollin with this lolol. Well done, Wule.

Michigan wanted Glenn Robinson to be part of the Fab Five. He was a first team HS All American, ranked #1 or #2 in the high school rankings. Led his team to the Indiana State Championship dominating the #3 ranked player, Alan Henderson, in the finals. Co-MVP of the Dapper Dan Roundball Classic, and a McDonald's All American. Robinson could have gone anywhere, but he narrowed his choices to Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota or Tennessee. Minnesota and Tennessee were eliminated because of distance. My question is, what would Purdue's future classes have looked like with Frank Kendrick still recruiting for Gene Keady?

Apparently, nobody was going after the recruits Frank was going after 😂

But on a serious note, probably really good. Frank got done dirty.

Lmao. Everyone who followed high school basketball knew Big Dog was for sure going to to the NBA. He was the #1 recruit in the nation in a loaded class.
