Both Purdue and IU should be commended

Being your 43 and a follower of iu sports, I’d be awfully careful what I say on a football board. You know the saying about opening ones mouth and removing all doubt. When I think of iu football what comes to mind is Randle El and Lee Corso. Has iu football ever been ranked #1 in football? Have they ever sent anyone to NYC on Heisman Saturday? Could you even name the last NCAA basketball team that ran the table and won the title?
And if you combine Randle El and Corsos time at IU you will see two seasons over .500 out of their 14 seasons there.Their eras add up to 58 wins, one Bowl appearance with 39 Big Ten wins.Woo hoo!

I never had a problem with Purdue because where I'm from, Purdue is completely irrelevant in the collegiate sporting conversation. In Southern Indiana, Purdue never carried enough sway with people to legitimately even talk about, let alone root for.

Then the internet happens and it gives everyone, big and small, a voice much bigger than they previously had. This is kind of what transpired with Purdue from my perspective. The internet actually gave a pulse to your fanbase. It let the world know that there is a small but strong Purdue support base.

When I come here and read this football board that represents Purdue's fanbase, I'm always shocked to read the comments regarding the program up there. I'm smart enough to understand that this place represents diehard fans who certainly have unrealistic views of their world. Comments like the above, regarding Purdue never losing recruits to Indiana is a classic delusional statement that gets thrown around on this forum with enough regularity to show just how goofy this board is.

In my lifetime, I'm 43, Purdue has never been great in anything. That's the exact reason no one down state cares or speaks about Purdue. Schools that display greatness exist all around Purdue. Michigan, MSU, IU, UofL, UK, Ohio State, etc., all have displayed greatness in basketball or football. Purdue can not say that, they've displayed a few competent teams that have won a conference championship here and there, but never winning anything of relevance on the national scene.

What compelled me to write this is some of the absurd comments I continually read on here about Purdue football being some sort of good program. I would say your basketball program is "decent to good" and your football program is mediocre. That's your lot in life, it is what it is. Quit making the dumbass comments.
You’re 43, So pretty young. But yet old enough to have quite a bit of real world intelligence. I’m not going to knock you because you have every right to say what you feel. I grew up a Bobby Knight fan where my neighbor’s house was a holy place of ‘quiet obligation’ on game day. Since getting my first job out of college many years ago in West Lafayette I was introduced to mediocre football, at that time.
No, we don’t have “the program“ like O$U or USC but we do have is a very respectable football program which is on the rise, again.

Let’s not forget when I went to school in Wisconsin at the beginning of the Alverez tenure they had been god-awful for so many years. And then when I was doing my internship at Kansas State University, again they had been so god-awful at football that even the roads leading into Manhattan (very rural area) had to be expanded and major, major construction (like blasting into huge limestone walls) done to accommodate the massive amounts of cars showing up on game day for the first time in, well 44 years.

And let’s not forget schools like Northwestern who couldn’t field a competitive team until the last 20 years. In other words that’s the greatness of college sports. It doesn’t matter what your team was doing 25, 35 or 50 years ago. Purdue fan, delusional? Possibly a bit over excited )is there such a thing when what has taken place the last two years following the previous 10 years happens?) but certainly not delusional.

**When a coach like Jeff Brohm makes a choice like he did a couple of weeks ago it kind of tells the fans were the program is at and is headed. It also tells the fans of other schools where the program ranks in the minds of everyone people who are not Purdue through-and-through. Like it or not he is a program changer for the future, whether he sticks around long term or goes back home in 4 or 5 years, or goes to the NFL or anything in between. It tells your program where it’s at and going.

What this post says about td75 is very telling, and very sad. So sorry for your affliction.

Can anyone name seven recruits who chose IU over Purdue for football in the last five years? Ten years? Twenty years?
Um, in all fairness, I don't have specific names, but are you forgetting about the Hazel years? (Um, I wouldn't blame you... I do full-body shivers thinking about the DiNardo years)

Yeah that's an odd statement to make. Coy Cronk comes to mind right away.

Purdue wasn’t after Robbins or Person. They ended up with much better players at both positions. Taylor had no shot at QB at Purdue, made sense he went where he was told he could play some QB.

You're making things up. Taylor was recruited to play corner. Other than an occasional wild cat play, he'll never play QB and specifically didn't want to do so in college.

That's rich coming from the guy who thinks that IU should dominate Purdue in football recruiting. That Purdue has "nothing" over IU. Lol. Remember how sure you were that Brohm was going to UL? Oh and no, Tuttle committing shouldn't have much if any impact on Bell.

Nice pick up on the Tuttle kid. He could definitely be a game changer. If he doesn't get brought up on bigamy charges. :)

I don’t know because I don’t frequent the IU site but from what I hear a post such as this would be deleted and poster banned over on your site if this sentiment was posted by a Purdue fan. That should tell you all you need to know.

About the dinado years? Lol. No need for the qualifier.

Here’s a gem from @td75 on the IU board:

“It’s funny, when people are assholes it’s usually because they can be. Things like being good looking, being smart, having money, etc. Purdue has none of that, yet still have a ton of assholes.”

That’s @td75 in a nutshell for you right there folks. Completely delusional.

I resent that. I'm told I'm one h#lluva good looking @sshole, not to mention smart and very funny.

Curious, from about the Boston college game until we lost to MSU.. you weren’t answering much

Hmmm...was not intentional. Hopefully I am not just on your site during the bad times. I certainly try to remain as objective as possible for an IU fan on a Purdue fan board.

Purdue fans....really? Your Purdue. Are you really talking smack to anyone. You've made it to back to back bowl games, barely. I know IU isn't great either, but none of you have room to talk about anything football related. Win a ring and then come talk, win 5 and then your school can talk shit.

I think you're lost bud. First you came to a Purdue board to talk smack about how we talk to a rival. When you actually win one of those 5 rings...come back.

This is a football forum. Your football program is one of the worst in D1 history. Run along.

Cool story bro. Keep bathing in the glory of a school who you bought a t-Shirt with their logo.

and I thought Purdue alums were supposed to be intelligent. Miami Hurricanes have won 5 rings fruitcake. When was the last time you won your conference? Cause I know you never won a National Championship...or anything else of importance.

This is supposed to be a football forum.... Wow, impressive! You're a basketball school that has never won a championship in either. So the fact you guys are arrogant is hilarious!

Either he's a made up IU troll or a hurricane fan on meth!

I'm from Indiana, grew up and went to school in Miami and now I'm back. Meth is a midwest thing, you can keep it. You should stop though, before you lose your last 3 good teeth.

You just showed us what five paragraphs of dumb comments looks like. The last time IU hung one of their dusty banners, you were probably about eight years away from shaving for the first time. The last coach IU had that left Gloomington with a winning football record skipped town three decades before you were born.Bob Griese and Rondale Moore are both from your part of the State. But in your 43 years, you certainly havent seen anyone as good as them wear the Creamed and Crimson.Have you helped clean the goose poop away from Memorial stadium yet?You would be good at that.
Matt also from the southern area in basketball Dave Schellhase,Bob Ford,Tom Neimeyer,Terry Dischinger,Paul Hoffman,Larry Weatherford,Wayne Walls,Norris Caudell,Bud Ritter,Ronnie Bland,Norm Cottom,the Khert brothers.Bob Orrill,Bill Lodge,Maury Lorenz,Ted Server,Don Server,Jerry Sichting,McCool,Butterfield,Mathews,( Five of those players were on the same Bosse team)

You guys are boring. Think I'll go rile up some Suckeye fans. Good luck getting to that 7th win in the weaker half of the conference. You're so lucky you drew the easy side.

LOL!

The "easy" side.

The Loosiers talk about divisions, and keep losing to the division they disparage.

We don't talk about divisions. We just go out and put a can 'o whoop@ss on the #2 team in the country.

Divisions? We don't talk no stinking divisions. That's loser mentality.

Thanks.I knew about some of those guys but not all of them.Merry Christmas to you,Mr Owlbird and I always look forward to you teaching us about sports history.O,by the way I was talking to a young guy the other day,and said he was raised on The Three Stooges, but had never heard of Laurel and Hardy. What a shame.Stan and Ollie were awesome.

Pardon our mistake in thinking you’re an IU fan. You talk out of your ass just like an IU fan acting as if the national championships are a personal accomplishment that gives you some elevated social status.

Forgot you guys do spice and eat homeless people...my bad.

IU fans on their site saying they’ve got a much deeper class. While i think they’ve got a solid class, I can’t imagine how, even with a strong bias, they could come to that conclusion in such confidence.

I saw a post saying they thought they had better prospects on both lines. You might be able to make the argument for their o-line but it’s not even close on the d-line. We have Karlaftis, Hunter, and Faucheux while they have Robbins and a bunch of lower-rated guys than Purdue.

That’s hilarious. You wouldn’t be able to find a single person outside of an IU fan that would prefer their class to ours.

Both schools have good recruiting classes. Which one is better will be played out over the next few years. According to 247 sports, the average ratings for the last two years show Purdue at .8469 in 2018 and .8631 in 2019, and IU at .8490 in 2018 and .8601 in 2019. The two year averages are .855 for Purdue and .854 for IU. How these recruits are developed will be the real important factor.

Here’s what matters. Purdue 31, IU 24 and Purdue 28, IU 21. All-time Purdue 74-41-6. Bucket Game Purdue 60-31-3. We own IU.
