Welcome to this week's “BOILING OVER,” GoldandBlack.com’s weekly information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our site members and site members only. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate or proprietary information confined to this message board. This feature allows us to be more flexible in our reporting, to our readers' benefit, and we lose that ability if we can't keep this feature secure and the value of our site's membership at its peak. Additionally, we address recruiting and hiring processes in-depth and often without filter in this feature and we do it behind a subscription-protected barrier for a reason, in hopes of avoiding situations where our reporting can impact the recruiting process, which can happen occasionally.

So again, we appreciate everyone's cooperation very much. We know there are a lot of aggregator blogs out there, and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards. We don’t want to come off like Darth Vader (before he turned good at the end of "Return of the Jedi" of course) here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren’t proactive about protecting the value of their membership.

PURDUE FOOTBALL

A few notes on the football staff ...

Assistant O-line coach Neil Callaway’s retirement wasn’t a surprise. It’s believed he told Jeff Brohm before the Indiana game that he was stepping down.

The 66-year-old has a desire to spend more time with family, but could be retained as a consultant. Dale Williams will remain as the offensive line coach for a sixth season. But Purdue will look for an assistant O-line coach. Or, the position could be assistant o-line/tight ends coach. Or, the position could be a tight ends coach.

It just depends on who Purdue hires and how they would best fit in.

Expect Purdue to be methodical in hiring a replacement for Co-DC/LB coach Brad Lambert. The option to promote Ron English to play-calling duties would seem to be on the table, and the James Adams situation has to play out before Purdue knows how many spots it has to fill on the defensive side. The more spots, the more flexibility. It's been thought that Adams could follow Lambert to Wake Forest, but there would have to be an opening there, obviously.

And it also won’t rush to replace Co-OC/WR coach JaMarcus Shephard. A two-week recruiting period begins on Friday, so staffers will be on the road. One potential candidate for the WR job is thought to be Taylor Stubblefield, the former Purdue All-American. He is the receivers coach at Penn State. It’s believed Stubblefield and Brohm have already talked.

The wide receiver position at Purdue should draw considerable interest, too. (TD)

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Recruiting visits can start back up again, and the only visitor we're aware of for Purdue this weekend is nose tackle Connor Lingren, a priority sort of prospect for the Boilermaker staff and one they've been willing to wait on.

You'll recall Lingren unofficially visited Purdue for the Indiana game, but never made an official prior to the early signing date. He did officially visit Vanderbilt prior to the December signing date, but held off on making a commitment and signing, seemingly intent to visit Purdue at all costs.

Arizona State has also since offered Lingren, but we've been unable to touch base with him this week to see if he has a visit scheduled with them or not. (BN)

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Purdue doesn’t anticipate landing Minnesota running back transfer Ky Thomas. He is a native of Topeka, Kan., and could end up signing with Kansas.

Purdue is still on Stanford running back Nathaniel Peat. But with classes starting on Monday, Peat would likely be unable to enroll for the spring semester, even if Purdue landed him.

Bottom line: Any portal addition Purdue gets now likely won’t be able to join the program until the summer. (TD)

PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Camden Heide
is supposed to be sidelined for about three more weeks due to the foot injury that's sidelined him much of the season at Wasatch Academy in Utah.

He and Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn were both in LaPorte this past weekend for a tournament hosted by LaLumiere, but neither could play.

Gibbs-Lawhorn was sitting out due to Montverde's requirement that a player attend six days of classes before he can play. He debuts tonight against Camden High School from New Jersey.

Fletcher Loyer's season stats for Homestead: 26.9 points, five rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.2 steals, 43% from the field and 34% from three. Those last two numbers are down from last season as he has to shoot more and take more tough ones without as much help offensively around him. Injuries haven't helped, either.

Braden Smith's season stats for Westfield, winner of seven straight: 19.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, six assists, 2.3 steals, 50% from the field and 44% from three-point range (wow).

We still have Hall of Fame Classic video from those guys we haven't been able to finish editing yet. (BN)
