Interesting— I’m the exact opposite: I respected knight as a master tactician and motivator early on….
However, the more I was exposed to him, the more I realized what he really was: a petty, profane, thin-skinned hypocrite who was absolutely unable to abide by the standards he absolutely demanded of everyone he interacted with.

Yep. Demanded discipline and self control from his players, but he had zero of either himself.
He was as old school as they get. He produced though. I think as a player, if you committed to iu and BK at the time, you had to know what you were getting yourself into and be ready for it.
And Izzo “produced” too. Those MSU coeds should have known to stay away from his thug players, amirite?
There's nothing inherently good about "old school." Plenty of good things and bad things are "old school."
I've never seen a good leader in my time in the military and that started in 92 and ended in 20 who was the kind of thin skinned hypocritical ass Knight was. They may have gotten "results" but it was at the cost of the people they led and ultimately a lot of them just got worse as they aged until they ended up just like Knight.
You can get results being like Keady or Painter. Firm, but fair. Kind but demanding. Not requiring things they didn't give a damn about holding themselves accountable to like Knight was.
There's nothing about Knight worthy of emulation or respect IMO. He's mostly forgotten now and that's a good thing.
I meant old school in the fact that he didn't care about your feelings. It was his way or the highway and if you didn't like the discipline or berating, there's the door. Not saying I agree with it but again, it generated 3 NCs, so he was doing something right at the time.
Not caring about feelings is not a good thing.
The idea that how you get to a goal doesn't matter as long as you get to that goal is a principle we usually reject.
Would you think any less of Purdue and Painter if they went and found 2-3 guys from the portal who ended up starting next year and helped them get to a FF? End justifies the means?
Never happen. Paint may grab one guy out of the portal and he may be a starter but 2 or 3 when we have the big 3 winning as much as they do? Not happening.

We need to get a 4 that can play off of TKR and Braden. I don’t see one on the roster.
I assume folks will say TKR is the 4 and Jacobsen the 5.
That may very well be the lineup, and yes Burgess may be in line for more time. But 3 bugs isn't enough depth. We need a versatile big who can cover for depth, injury, foul trouble or just an odd night.
I wouldn't pencil DJ in as a starter. Lightweight big man coming off major leg injury.
Even if you KNOW he’s a starting caliber player (and we don’t yet), I don’t think he’s the best fit with TKR and Braden. My dream scenario is Furst getting a fifth year, and OSU letting him push med school back a year.
I think Burgess has a better chance to become a great fit next season with TKR and Braden than DJ.
Still would love to add a big, though I’m sure Painter’s more worried about having the money for both Braden and TKR.

The issue isn’t if a coach does something perfectly legal in order to win, it’s whether or not a maniacal, abusive, hypocrite POS who doesn’t think any rules apply to him because he wins basketball games is a good thing…
Just me- I prefer that someone representing my alma mater has character.
I don't think Painter is going to agree with you.
He started him and he was clearly well ahead of Burgess. Burgess will be nice but he's not had any huge leaps to suggest he's starting next year.
DJ is going to be a year older and stronger from the weight room. Gonna guess he starts.
