Biggie SI Article (w/ lots of new info on his recruitment)

It was Biggie's freshman year and he had yet to reclassify so he was a 2016 recruit. And Purdue was still filling the 2014 class.

True. He was still 2016 at the time so it was still far enough away that you can theoretically be more selective. I wonder how well Biggie communicated to the staff that he was really looking for an offer. That would go a long way toward my judgement on this situation. One things for sure. I'm glad I'm not in charge of making these calls!

I feel the same on that front. It's one reason why I tend to give coaches more slack than most do. They don't have the luxury of hindsight.

True but at the salary Matt Painter makes he has to make some great judgement calls in recruiting as well as coaching at a high level. I think overall he is doing well but as long as he commands the salary he does he is fair game for nitpicking.

Remember when Eron Gordon was coming into high school as the next superstar? Some kids develop early and some kids develop late. Markelle Fultz didn't make his varsity high school team till his jr year. Now he is expected to be the top draft pic. Imagine if coaches had to only offer 9th or 10th graders.

He wanted to commit as a freshman but no one offered Caleb that early except maybe Chicago St. MSU offered a little before Purdue did. Caleb took offense against Purdue because he grew up a huge Purdue fan. It would have been the same thing for MSU if he grew up an MSU fan.
