It's early, but Illinois, Michigan and Ohio State seem to have the best talent and look to be favorites for the BT.
Illinois and Indiana pre conference schedules are really weak. ESPN has Purdue with toughest schedule left in the COUNTRY!
It's funny, even with a weak schedule, IU's high dollar guards have ratings of : Rice 0.6, Carlye -2.3! Galloway is their best guard at 3.1.

Yes I am over here looking around. Looking for good basketball discussion which with a split IU fanbase due to Woodson's performance in 3 years and his senior night speech, it is a little hard to find over there. Watching a little of Michigan the other night, I told my friends they could be trouble this year in the B1G, yet I am and always have been a fan of Dusty May.

I think your game with Bama will tell you a lot about your team. BTW, IU's pre B1G schedule is beyond unbelievable. Besides the little tourney in the Bahamas? their biggest game is South Carolina, who Northern Florida beat them last week.

You have the best PG in the B1G. Illinois will be there at the end. Should be interesting games this year between Purdue and IU.

If this team stays close (within 10) of Alabama, even at home, that's a good sign for Purdue. Painter has a lot of team building and development to do with essentially all of these guys outside of Braden and Fletch. As a Purdue fan you hope that this team can stay in the mix over the next couple of months while they figure things out.

There are a lot of new pieces and new offensive patterns for you guys. It is enjoyable to watch a team that picks away from the ball to create shots for others, instead of spreading the court with four players standing still while watching an ISO play underneath. At least you have a decent pre BIG schedule to help in developing a team. You can't figure out much when a team plays opponents ranked over 300.

A brutal schedule coming up for a team with a lot of new pieces. They have ten games left this calendar year and 5-5 would legitimately be an 'ok' outcome (although fans here would likely have a meltdown).

Alabama has really struggled. Moreso than Purdue. Should be a good game.

Illinois has a really tough non conference…by no means is it “really weak”.

It includes:

Bama
Arkansas
Tennessee
Mizzou
Duke (end of Feb)

Also, Martinelli being highly rated I assume is due to a VERY small sample size?

Yeah I agree about Michigan…and I even thin ohio state will finish at the top, to be honest.

We all were bashing IU’s non con but (as you know) woody is playing the system and hoping that if they can win by a lot vs cupcakes and finish in the top half of the B1G, they should easily be in. I’m sure it’s annoying as a fan, as fans like to (usually) watch games where both teams are good. I also agree that it’s tough to figure out what kind of team you have if you are always playing inferior competition.

Purdue probably will go .500ish the rest of 2024. But I hope it means we figure it out by mid Feb. it’s be a bit different for us, as we have grown to be accustomed to being pretty well established early on in the year and not playing the best in Feb.

I’m confused if you looked at Illinois’ correct non-conference schedule…?

vs. #2 Alabama (Birmingham, AL)
vs. #18 Arkansas (Kansas City, MO)
vs. #11 Tennessee
vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
vs. #6 Duke (New York, NY)

Mizzou is bad (although that rivalry setup is intense every year no matter what) and the Duke game is in February, but … weak? #2, #11 and #18 all away from home before conference play is not exceptionally weak, lol.

Indiana’s schedule is a joke as always, of course.

IU’s schedule is weak, I do think they’re a good team though, I realize it’s tough for us Purdue fans to admit.

This years big ten should have a LOT of parity. No clear favorite. Bracketmatrix projects the following seeds
4 - Purdue
5 - Indiana
5 - UCLA
7 - Illinois
7 - MSU
8 - Rutgers
9 - Oregon
9 - OSU
10 - Michigan
Md, WI, Iowa, USC all bubble teams wirh northwestern and Nebraska lurking too. That’s 15 of 18 teams (no love for Washington, Penn State, or Minny).

Not a lot separating Michigan from Purdue. 14-6 might win it this year!

There might be parity but it's not going to be good parity. Might get two or 3 teams that are 5 seeds or better. Most will be in the 7 and lower.

We'll find out a lot in the next few weeks. If the Big Ten can knock off some top-ten teams then the parity once we get into the conference slate looks good. If not, it just looks like mediocrity.

I think they have the talent but their system through the 4 games they’ve played…has not changed. Still giving up wide open 3s—a lot of them and still taking a small amount of 3s.

Still no shooters outside of Mbacko. Rice seems to be sped up and really hasn’t shown himself to be the “best point guard in the league” as many IU fans have been saying. They have size but when they play two bigs it clogs the lane for others.
