Big Ten - COTY

Because it's IU. That's why. Crean can thank the previous coaches for making it so easy for him to recruit to IU. Put Crean at a different school and no way he brings in the same recruits.
yep ,no doubt about it. Painter has done really well for an engineering school if you think about it. Think about Rose-Hulman and the number of kids you could name off of the top of your head that played Men's basketball at that institution compared to other D3 schools. Rose Hulman's basketball coach has done wonders over the years having to deal with what he's had to deal with. It's hard to recruit when your GPA has to be higher than everyone else in the B1G except for Northwestern.

Weird....at his previous school, Crean landed Dwayne Wade.

Has Painter ever landed a better player than Wade, at any school?

I'll hang up and wait for your answer.

:D

Then why does Painter keep finishing behind Crean in the standings and on the recruiting trail?

;)
How did Crean do last year compared to Painter? That word you used, "Keeps" seems inappropriate when talking about Crean's record. Besides, this season isn't over by a damn sight. You'd better pray that Crean does something in the NCAA's or all this posturing will look pretty stupid.

Yes, IU fans will be irate if Crean has another early exit this year.

The difference is, when Painter has an early exit, none of you people will be the slightest bit angry.

Matt's such a nice guy who tries hard and all that BS, I guess.

You're nuts if you don't think we were angry after our first round loss last year.

What is "characture" and what are "characturistics?" Anyway...I think I know what you mean.

I think Coach Crean won the Big 10 in 2013 as well. He's been to the Final Four. He is the first Indiana coach in 33 years to win the Big 10 twice outright in a four year period. He just won the Big 10 by a two game margin. He just was named AP coach of the year. He has the 16th best recruiting class in the country coming in next year (as opposed to his in-state counterpart's class that is ranked 91st).

Among other things.

How many years now have we listened to how great Crean's next recruiting class is...and generally speaking, how did that work out for you all with their play? Awfully high turnover rate down south it seems....Pretty much proves our point over here...

LOL, wade might be an unfair comparison, because he was an anamoly

Are you seeking affirmation from your big brother for crean or for yourself?

Gard didn't politicize the award while Crean did. Crean is a pile of festering dog dung, a spaz, and other things. Gard, with limited talent did a far better job....taking over DURING the season than Crean did.
Hey Twin, how does that prediction of IU finishing anywhere from 7th to 9th in the league look right about now? You certainly know your basketball, that's for sure. Any more astute predictions for us?

The team changed when a freshman big stepped up and got in the face of the chosen baby bear after the collapse in Hawaii. He asserted himself and took a lot of control of the team much like CZ and VO did a few years ago. I'm hoping he jumps to the league. With BooBoo gone if Bryant leaves and they get Jack 'Em Up James back from injury we'll find out just what kind of changes the brilliant coach made.
You're serious about this? Bryant took control of the team? You haven't watched a minute, including the PU game, if you actually think anyone besides Yogi has control of this team.

Yep, he's so successful he took a team with 2 lotto picks and ranked #1 in the country for most of the year and couldn't get them out of the sweet 16. That's some coaching for you.

It must really really suck to get beat by such a crappy coach. I like Painter, but by your logic, you must really detest your own coach if he could lose to Crean.

Now, here is the question. Last year Crean was infamous for weird substitutions, lack of defense, and undisciplined play. In fact that was his MO for all the time he has been at IU. So, who changed those team characturistics? Was it Crean, suddenly becoming the coach he dreamed he was? Is there a really good assistant coach on the sidelines that has changed the playing style and culture of the IU team? How did this team suddenly change characture?

[/QUOTE]
I think it was accidental improvement of player culture. The biggest head cases remaining got in enough trouble that they got kicked out wether Crean liked it or not. Then he lost his leading scorer who consistently gave up more than he scored. His freshmen are defenders by nature (OG and Morgan) and they really helped. Bryant gave him size. Stir in the softest schedule in the history of basketball and you get a major award.

Let's get the Wade story correct....Wade was committed to another university but his grades were so bad that the other school withdrew their offer. Wade couldn't find another place to play, so Tom Crean was willing to take a guy he knew would never graduate and wasn't academic material. He basically sold his soul as he's done a few times at IU. Were it not for Wade falling in his lap, and for Crean's willingness to take an unqualified player, Crean would never have made it out of Marquette. Just to keep the record straight.

Yep....And it wasn't 7th to 9th. IU wins it all this year and Crean leaves for the NBA. You happy now?

I love it when chest thumping SoCalledFan arrives every time the Loosiers are above average to spread his version of "LOGIC". Nobody has said anything about anybody detesting anybody. This thread is a perfect example why this board needs one moderator that's a jerk to police it since none of this would be allowed by Boiler fans on the Stye.

It's funny how quiet it was around here when we whooped their team twice last year. This year they are coming over here proclaiming Crean as savior of their team, with incredibly short memories. Next year, once Yogi goes, IU will be mid-pack at best. Bet we don't see them posting over here then, just like we didn't see them here last year. Sort of like locusts.. They show up every 7 years.

Math, if Bryant stays I actually believe IU will be better with Lil' Yogi off to Europe. Many times Yogi was selfish, it's known that he and Blackmon didn't get along, and several times late in games Yogi cost IU. That said, he was a perfect fit for Crean's "Let them do anything they want" style of play, but next year Crean will have a PG who will distribute to the other players. Now if Bryant leaves for the NBA, all bets are off on how good IU is next year. Watch for whomever is responsible for IU's defensive turnaround to get a better job as well....and we know it's not Two Tone coaching D.

And what did Painter do with Hummel and crew? Lol
It's time for this thread to die. Here is another good reason. Don't feed the trolls... you know this drill. 4eva is on his 7th or 8th post. Nothing to see or read here. Mostly rehashing the same old shit.

Are you for real? First off, it's pretty rare to get better by losing a senior captain who is the team's best player and leads them in scoring (100+ pts greater than the 2nd highest) and assists (75+ more than 2nd highest), not to mention said player is the PG and there isn't another true PG on the roster (or coming in next year) who can even remotely match his abilities... Secondly - an assuming you've got some rationale basis for how that would be possible - how much better than 1st place and 6-2 vs. the top half of the league could one realistically expect next year? It seems your hatred for IU/Crean has runneth over to the point of completely illogical thought.

Who cares how Wade ended up at Marquette.

The fact is, he ended up at Marquette and is one of the greatest NBA players of the last 20 years.

Looks like Painter had better find some better players to "fall into his lap" if he ever wants to see a Final Four for the Boilers.

...and that's a great question Boiler fans never want to talk about.

Why didn't Painter take the Baby Boilers any further than he did? Sure, Hummel's injury problems hurt, but they had PLENTY of talent on that team and still flamed out early.

This is clearly flame bait. If you don't know the reaons, then you don't follow college basketball very closely. Too bad. You seemed so knowledgeable in your earlier posts (cough, cough).

Don't you think it's about time to stop baiting over here and go home? You know IU still has a way to go this season, and the results of the coming month might prove to bea disaster for IU. Bet you don't come by if that happens?

I don't accept excuses from the Crean-loving gang as to why he hasn't gone past a Sweet Sixteen yet at IU.

Do yourself a favor and don't accept excuses for Painter, either.

Aim higher.

You are so off base on this, just as you were your other predictions. Yogi was not a selfish player. He is very happy racking up assists. He and James get along quite well, they are together all the time. James was always the first over to congratulate him. It's obvious you don't watch much IU ball, since you are now a PU fan, so you should probably stop talking about them like you know anything AT all.

I wouldn't say Yogi is a selfish player either. I do think he had a bit of a hero complex and wanted to take the big shot. Normally that's a good thing but you can't get tunnel vision when you do. Last year's Purdue game at IU is a classic example. Yogi brought the ball up with 15 seconds left down 2 and hoisted a three with 8 seconds left. It was a poor shot because Williams broke open under the basket but Yogi didn't even look for him.
