OFF TOPIC Baseball -- Unwritten rule?

I'm not a baseball guy, but apparently people are arguing that this dude shouldn't have swung at a 3-0 pitch with the bases loaded up 10-3 in the top of the 8th. This seems like an incredibly stupid argument to me, so I thought I pose the question here, where incredibly stupid arguments are the norm. Thoughts?
