It just seems insane to how we are most likely going to have 3 back to back to back B1G players of the year. Might have 3 National Player of the year awards if it wasn't for Cooper Flagg. The talent that Painter sees in young players is just absolutely insane. He does it year after year. Great time to be a Boiler basketball fan. Can't say the same about football (yet).

If you are a good recruit, you have to see that these guys are being MADE into POY, it's not just happening by accident. It's COACHING, it's THE SYSTEM, it's THE PROGRAM.

I agree that it is probably the best place to realize your potential, but I also think that Painter is really great about targeting the right guys who have the potential for greatness. Very few players have the ability to do what Smith is doing. Ultimately, Smith gets the credit and choosing Purdue was one of the great decisions that he made to put himself in this position.

Tbh he didn’t have a lot of offers and Purdue was his only major one and he committed in 48 hours after they offered on Zoom. I’m really thankful Paint offered, but we should also be thankful with the guard who Dr committed and followed Shrews to Penn State, which opened a spot up to be able to offer Braden.

He was a combo guard - Jameel Brown, now at Temple, IIRC.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. Didn't Painter offer Carsen Edwards after another player signed somewhere else? Can't remember the name, but I think he went to OSU or FSU.

Fanta spilled his Fresca over this one.......

I knew we were going to win after that shot.

Not because it went in, but because the guys seemed pissed after due to overall poor play and didn't even really celebrate it.

That's a sign of a team that's won some championships and been in some battles. They were already thinking about thr 2nd half.

Painter's done pretty well for a settler.

Bet he even still has cable rather than DirecTV.....

Maybe 4 in a row after next year.

I don't believe Simpson ever committed to Purdue just maybe where we were in his final 2 or 3.

He didn't but had an offer, and Purdue was on the list of possible destinations. When C.J. "Sauce" Walker decommited, that opened things up for Zavier Simpson offer from Painter.

Probably worked out best for both Michigan and Purdue. When Zavier Simpson committed to the Wolverines, it ultimately paved the way for Carsen Edwards coming to Purdue.

To fill in the gaps - Walker ended up at Florida State and then transferred (before the portal technology was perfected) to Ohio State.

Agree with most of this, except Edwards committed to Purdue about 4 weeks before Simpson committed to Michigan. That said, I don’t think Purdue was getting Simpson regardless.

Didn't Ronnie Johnson make the sauce comment after Walker decommitted?

From what I remember, Ronnie was something of a head case. Bounced around after leaving Purdue. I think he played for Kelvin Sampson at Houston. Pretty sure he never played in the NCAA Tournament.

I still respect his older brother, Terone, who also played at Purdue. Dude struggled mightily at the free throw line, but he was a true Boiler.

Ronnie Johnson is the only player I recall who actively worked to undermine the program after he transferred out. Between Carsen, Jaden, and Braden, I would say the sauce critique hasn’t aged well.

There is no catching Flagg and Johnni Broome but Braden is likely #3 on that list and it's incredible to think given how nondescript his recruiting was.

Here is Field of 68 talking about him:

I actually agree, I think Braden is either a 2nd rounder or given a shot as a free agent.

But Braden is the type of player that carves out a role in the NBA. I dont think he can star, but a backup or 3rd string PG who is a great passer, good shooter and has a quicker burst to get open and plays smart.

Their for sure is a role for him at the next level in my opinion.

Thanks for correcting a failing memory still infused with Boilerepherine.....haha.

More accurate to phrase it in terms of ZS not jumping on the offer, but I agree......was probably less likely than not all along.
