Auburn has landed yet another 5 star recruit.

Bruce Pearl's recruiting classes have been absolutely stellar.

To all of the people that say Purdue and West Lafayette make recruiting difficult, here is a fine example that the head coach and face of the program has far more to do with attractiveness of said program, than the location of the school.

He's the guy who got caught cheating at Tennessee and had to sit out a number of years while a former Boiler had to go rescue that program without much appreciation whatsoever. Right?

Now you're telling me he went to another SEC school and he's still pulling in good recruits? Why am I not stunned and why am I not envious?

So are you saying that his ability to recruit is directly tied to cheating?

He definitely deserved to get fired at Tennessee for the BBQ and whatever other violations there were, but his recruiting ability and ability to identify with top talent, cannot be denied.

Not to mention western Kentucky has the 6 and 43 ranked players. Painter will be lucky to land a single player in the top 100. 2017 has turned out very disappointing so far. If carsen turns out to be a bust or transfers then 2016 will turn out to be even worse then the class of hale and lawson. Didnt think that was possible...

In spite of the mess when Pearl was an assistant at Iowa, I fell for Pearl's charms when he was here in Milwaukee at UW-M, so I can see how recruits would do the same. With the stuff that came out about Tennessee, I'm kicking myself for being a fan when he was here. He was a charmer. The local press and everyone else ate it all up.

I don't know if his recruiting is legit or not. I have my doubts. However, he does have a kinda charm. But, to get a 5 star at Auburn, just wow. Glad he wasn't there when we were recruiting Haas.

You can extrapolate what you like but the facts surrounding him are clear.

I'm wondering if there would be much mutual interest between them given how Pearl's teams play and how Haas plays.

Come on, Pearl is dirty as the day is long. Don't bring him up as an example against Painter. And yes, I am saying that: Bruce Pearl's ability to recruit is because he cheats, just like Calipari at Kentucky and either football or basketball coach at Ohio State. And Auburn, which you know out-bid Mississippi's State (was it $40,000?) for Cam Newton, hired Pearl knowing he's a cheat. It's the SEC.

I would rather lose every basketball game than be dirty like Kentucky or Ohio State, and now, it seems, Auburn too.

I just looked it up on google. Cam's dad Cecil Newton, told two Mississippi state coaches that it would cost "between $100,000 and $180,000 for Cam's services. We have to assume that Mississippi State wasn't willing to pay that, but Auburn (Pearl's new school) was willing to pay it.

So explain a school like western Kentucky.

Please note the Gene Keady was cauught for cheating at a far greater level that Bruce Pearl. Pearl made 2 mistakes. 1 - he lied, which is actually why he got in the real trouble. 2 - he didn't throw his assistant coach under the bus to keep his job.
Okay its confirmed. You aren't a Purdue fan. I mean how effin stupid are you? The differences between what Pearl did and what Purdue did are much different and Pearl was far .. far worse. I mean seriously, you have to be brain dead to think what you do.

Ive said it here before, and I'll say it again. Bruce Pearl is a decent man, albeit he has shortcomings professionally.

Pearl heard of a young man, a student at Tennessee, that had been fighting cancer on and off for several years. Pearl went out of his way to befriend this young man, taking him to football games in the box seats as his personal guest, tickets for basketball, introductions to the athletes and even personal phone calls just to check up on him. The efforts of Bruce Pearl meant very much to him. Well, the boy lost his fight with cancer and eventually Pearl was exposed for his breaking rules. Its not like he was buying prostitutes for kids or having rampant academic dishonesty.

Would I want Pearl at Purdue? I honestly would not, but that said, the man has earned my support and respect for his compassion, I can let his professional missteps slide. I mean he is just a sports coach in a very dishonest system, that said I am glad that Painter seems to play by the rules. Its a dirty world out there folks and theres more to a man than sports.

I think Calipari is a really decent guy to be honest. Doesn't mean he wasn't cutting corners at Memphis and UMASS. I think it's entirely possible to cheat and be a good guy. That's not to say I want that at Purdue though. We should aim for both.

Well, we had that at Purdue in the name of Frank Kendrick. Now his offense (the ride) is not currently a violation, but it is what is was. And I would take Frank for our staff any time. He cares about his kids and also knows a "little bit" about getting results as a coach. Just think what would have happened to Kelsey Barlow if Frank was still on staff.

He is hated in Illinois, he cheated at Southern Indiana, he cheated at UT.....and he's still loved in the SEC....aka Somewhere everyone Cheats. No thanks....Pearl is worse than Sampson or Crean.

Charles Barkley played at Auburn.

I believe it is academically accessible, plus you get to play UK every year. They've had some good teams over the years, but I agree it is hard to understand how they are outrecruiting us.
Ya they're definitely not landing 5 stars because they play Kentucky, that makes no sense. No reason we shouldnt be able to land a top 50 prospect a minimum of every two years.

sure there is and its simple, we aren't the only school that recruits these players and any one of the schools going after these kids can land them. It really stuns me that concept is hard for some to grasp.

THE COACH AND THE STAFF!!!!!!!!!! Is it not obvious?
Two months on the job, and Western Kentucky basketball coach Rick Stansbury has already picked up a commitment from one of the most talented recruits in the program’s history.

Five-star center Mitchell Robinson committed to the Hilltoppers on Wednesday, giving WKU a top-10 national prospect for its recruiting class of 2017.

Robinson — a 6-foot-11 prospect from New Orleans — originally committed to Texas A&M last October, and Stansbury was his primary recruiter while serving as the Aggies’ top assistant coach. A few weeks after Stansbury took the Western Kentucky job, Robinson announced that he was no longer committed to Texas A&M.

Earlier this month, Stansbury added former North Carolina standout Shammond Williams, who is also Robinson’s godfather, to his coaching staff at Western, which quickly emerged as a possible favorite for the talented recruit.

Hey- the Larry Brown/John Calipari/Rick Pitino move!

Auburn cheats. How can they get recruits? Absolutely almost zero academic work and money. I can't believe people can't see the difference between what the BOT, the Purdue faculty and the athletic department will allow versus Auburn. Blows my mind.

It's easy to understand. Bitchers are gonna bitch no matter what.

They are out recruiting lots of good schools. Says something about them, not about us and the rest of the schools. Dumb argument.

Kentucky doesn't have to be dirty, like Alabama they are a factory for those seeking professional riches. As for Auburn, kind of reminding me of Baylor football, we'll see what happens to that program. I will say this, Pearl does have the gift to gab, guarantee he is a charmer around parents!

He was slapped fro illegal recruiting and then lying to the NCAA abut it. Pond scum has more morals than Pearl does.

Well then I would guess if simply mis-representing to the ncaa makes you pond scum, we are all on slippery footing.

AJ was suspended for what again? Most people say it was a failed drug test, note that he has the same punishment as Smotherman (which we know is drug related).

Therefore, Purdue players, as drug users, are mis-representing their eligibility to the ncaa, and who knows how often they smoke pot and dont get caught for it!

Maybe we should worry about our program instead of crying over other programs that out recruit Purdue.

Edit: before people get all bitchy, let me add the disclaimer that i bleed old gold and black just like the rest of us who spemd time in this community. My point here is that nearly every program, coaches and/or players, has violated an ncaa rule. We seem pretty clean, and i appreciate our staff for that, but dont pretend our poop doesnt stink at least a little.

Frankly I'm not concerned about those programs except when people sing the virtues of their coaches here in an effort to marginalize our coach.

We have a team going into next season ranked in the top ten in many preseason polls and we have people here clamoring for coaches of programs like Western Kentucky and Auburn.

If you like Bruce Pearl so much, I'm certain Auburn would love to have another fan and I can't speak for everyone but as far as I'm concerned I won't enjoy Purdue basketball any less if you left.

Lol, its irritating that I tend to agree with you. As i have noticed in your post history, you tend not to read the post history of others. If you had, you would see that i am a painter supporter, always have been, and stated in this thread that i would NOT like someone like Pearl here at Purdue. But if you want to read some of my posts, mis-interpret who i am and what i stand for, then insult me over it. Your opinions certainly make you no greater fan or representative of our fine alma mater than i am, so just piss off, with all due respect of course. Boiler Up!

Sorry. Not going to go read all your posts just so I can respond to one. If you want to summarize your position, feel free. Otherwise, I'll suggest you take your own advice and piss off because I didn't say you couldn't be a fan of whoever you wanted. I just suggested it seems to me that from what I read that you might be happier cheering for Auburn and that if you were to remove yourself from Purdue fandom, I certainly wouldn't miss you. Do with that what you will.

Can I get a "War Eagle"?

alright pal, im NOT going to waste my time to summarize my old posts one last time because youre too lazy or incompetent to read them. I love purdue, i dont care if you dont think im on your level. I earned two degrees at purdue, loved my time there and am very thankful for it. I will always support Purdue, i hope you do too, but thats only because i want us to succeed.

You clearly need to feel superior to people here, and i hope you find whatever it is that would make you feel at peace with yourself, it would make for a more interesting and productive environment here. When you see me enjoying myself with friends at bball or out tailgating for football, ill take a beer or bourbon as an apology for your being such a lousy participant in our little internet sandbox.
Edit: ;):p:D:rolleyes::p:)have some smileys and dont get too bent out of shape over me, or others, having any inkling of respect for anyone outside our programs!

And I'm not going to waste my time going to read all your other posts so I can respond to one which was your ridiculous suggestion that prompted mine. Glad you caught that even if the irony of it didn't smack you square in the face.

I don't know you. Frankly, I don't care to know you and I certainly don't need to feel superior, inferior, or anything else compared to you. On this board, to me, you are what you say right here. That's what I'll address and respond to. If you can't handle that, I'm sorry I don't know what to tell you.

Tc needs to take the stick out of his ass. Fans like him suck and Purdue would be better off without him!

its just as much my fault for playing the back and forth with him, if we resort to name calling then we are just as bad as he is. Lets just give it a rest . After all as the song goes, "haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love" and in this case, trolls gonna troll.
