Agree 100% I can understand the personal foul, but to eject a player there needs to be something of obvious intent to injure. You can knock a guy into the bench late out of bounds and it's 15 yards. Make incidental contact with the helmet of a receiver or QB because he ducks his head and you're sitting out a game. Makes no sense. But the targeting penalties have to be amended.
the original poster is not a Wolve fan, good grief, it's his first post and he is busting our board about the officiating bitching.not sure what the "fraud" is.
This is a helluva Purdue team to watch.
Brohm is no fraud.
The Purdue effort was no fraud.
There's something to be proud of on that field!
The targeting calls were not legit. You are some kind of idiot. The officials didn't beat Purdue. 9 years of apathy beat Purdue. Yeah, I thought some call went against the boilers, but the targeting and late hits were legit. I'll let better posters fill in, but until the hazel guys cycle out and the brohm guys cycle in...Purdue fans have to wait awhile. Still, Michigan had all it could handle today.

Thanks.Michigan would have won anyway, but I don't know how Anthrop could have his helmet knocked off with no call. And I thought that was roughing the punter. The Wolverines are awesome on defense.in favor of M in my life

and all the other plays before it?it really came down to one play. we had michigan deep in its own territory 3rd and long(purdue up 10-7) and had the qb trapped around the goal and let him somehow escape for a first down throw. they then went down the field and scored, game over. how we had a qb surrounded and let him go is beyond me
Target is a verb. It implies an intentional act. From the dictionary: "select as an object of attention or attack. "two men were targeted by the attackers"Ha ! Yes they were. Go back and watch without your unbiased glasses. Did they mean to ? Doubt it, but did they ? Yes.

synonyms: pick out, single out
When two helmets hit each other, that is not automaticly targeting.
I saw a play where the Michigan player, number 10, ran down the field with a WR. He pushed the WR down after the play then got into his face as he was getting up and taunted him. All of this after the whistle. The refs had to separate 10. All he got was a talking to. I saw Anthrop get his helmet knocked off with no call. There was also another taunting missed when a bigger Michigan guy pushed the guy down and after the play got in his face and made a hand gesture, similar to a theist ct but much lower, after the play with no call. Then I saw Purdue not get a pass interference call (although it should have been a holding regardless) because it wasn't catchable. Then they had one for Michigan when the throw was 20 yards over the receivers head and they called it. The play early in the first when the receiver was ruled down short of the first down, when replay showed it looked like he wasn't down. That was just some of the awful calls. I didn't see any missed the other way.
The first targeting penalty was bogus. It was high only because the Michigan player went low. The Purdue guy hit high, but didn't aim for the head or lead with the crown of his helmet. It was an awful call and a momentum shift. The second targeting was according to the rule. Crown of the helmet was above the shoulders. Not intentional, but it's the rules. There was also a late hit out of bounds that was legit against Purdue.
It wasn't just some calls that were bad. They continually messed the spot of the ball and had to adjust it atleast twice that I remember. Those refs were embarrassingly bad. After that targeting call when Michigan marched down the field and scored a touchdown, it was over. The fight was gone and Purdue players were afraid to hit the Michigan players.
Michigan was the better football team, but it ridiculous when the Redding was that bad. Several bad calls resulted in scores or Purdue having to punt when they should have had a first down. Those are impossible to put a value on.
That was the worst reffed game in any sport that I have seen in a very very long time.
LOL. Give me a break. For every call you claim cost you, there is one that went against Michigan as well. Let's not even talk about the all the dirty play from Purdue. A bunch of chop blocks (only 2 called), textbook targeting (No, they shouldn't be ejected), and that punk ass push way out of bounds (now that player deserved to be ejected). You guys are headed in the right direction and I think Brohm will have you competing for the division in 2-3 years, but the whining about the officiating is ridiculous. Especially when you gain TEN yards the 2nd half.
Lol sour grapes. Enjoyed being ownedYou clearly didn't watch the same game. Purdue got two chop block calls against and Michigan got one. One of the targeting calls was to the rules, I acknowledged it. The other was complete BS and everybody knew it. Also, Anthrop had his helmet taken off in what should have been a targeting call that was missed. The punk ass push way out of bounds was a continuation and it was barely out of bounds. Michigan got away with so many specific plays that I mentioned in the previous post and that wasn't even all of them. That was just off he top of my head remembering. You didn't list a specific missed call that went Purdue's way. Not one.
I acknowledged Michigan was a better team. There was no denying that. Number 10 on defense was a monster. But there is no way with a straight face you can claim that game was called evenly or was well officiated. Even simple things like spotting the ball were difficult. That was the worst officiated game that I have seen in a long time. Even the Michigan fans I sat next too stated the officials were terrible. Saying otherwise makes you a troll or really stupid. The thread was even started by somebody who as far as I can tell is a Michigan fan.

Solid game. You guys have an insane defense that was too much for us. But the targeting penalties have to be amended. Just can't have the ejection plus out for the first half of the next game. Just ridiculous.

You firstMaybe you should get your vagina out of your mouth and you'll be ok
The word "targeting" implies that a player is intentionally aiming to hit an opponent in the head with his helmet. The refs are calling it such that whenever two helmets hit each other, the tackler is guilty of targeting. I understand the need to reduce concussions but the current rule is absurd.I agree
Targeting has to go
Fine to give the personal foul, but to eject the player AND hold them out for the 1st 1/2 of the next game rots
It is a very subjective call
While you may view it as "absurd" it is still the rule. It's easily correctable as well by just teaching the tackler to aim for the numbers. Simple as that. The word "targeting" implies that a player is intentionally aiming to hit an opponent in the head with his helmet. The refs are calling it such that whenever two helmets hit each other, the tackler is guilty of targeting. I understand the need to reduce concussions but the current rule is absurd.
