Are other conference officials as bad as the BIG10????

He got a lot more calls in non-conference than in conference. The B1G doesn't believe in freedom of movement or over the back. Once you start getting other league officials the game changes. I blame this mostly for not preparing the B1G for the NCAA tournament. The B1G has had the talent, but it cannot seem to deal with real officated games come tournament time. So I am totally good with how he plays for the NCAA tournament.

I'll say this, be beats his defender so often that they are grabbing and pulling which isn't called, but when he does the head snap and throws up hands they will call it.

So, no I do not like the head snap, but I am tired of people holding all game. The ACC is so bias for Duke and UNC, I'll still take the Big Ten officials. However, during league games not involving Duke or UNC, you expected the officials to enforce the rules.

The Big Ten seems to have a formula.
~15 fouls in the 1st half and 25+ in the second half, no matter the style of play. They also tend to really favor less athletic teams.

My wife went to Purdue, I of course went to UMD, was a great game, we blew it, but that's how it goes.
No such thing.

I have no idea what this means? If you look at the link I provided you will see that the same refs people on here complain about also ref games in other conferences. I don't think a lot of posters here watch other conferences very often. If they did they would recognize these guys from other games they have watched.

That was my only point. The thread title asks if other conference refs are as bad as the B1G? I'm trying to tell everyone there is no such thing as conference refs. Someone last week was complaining about one of our games and said they had never seen any of the refs before. 1 of the refs from that game ( John Higgins) is one of the busiest refs in the country. As of last nights KU/KSU game, he has reffed 69 games this year. So the B1G isn't going cheap if that was what you were suggesting. They are hiring the same guys that do ACC, Big 12 and SEC games.

When it comes to refs, people need to watch more than our games. There isn't anything happening in our games that other fan bases aren't complaining about also. I'm not defending the quality of the refereeing in any way. I just get tired of seeing the complaining about our conference refs when there is no such thing.
Refs have a view of how the game is to be played. They differ in their views. Conferences have a general style or approach to how to play that game. When an incompatible situation between the view of a ref doesn't align with that conference or team in the conference we complain as the calls are different than what is USUAL. It is also common for one ref to make more calls than the others...generally due to the view of how the game is to be played. I thought Dorsey was a joke and Texas said he did a lot of ACC games. I think the general calls in an ACC game are a little different than the Big. Bottom line...calls unusual for the majority of games against your team are viewed as bad calls...but exact call in another venue may not raise an eyebrow

Every fan base complains about refs. I've done it many times. It has always been part of the game and always will be. Just look in the IU/PU thread. Many are already "worried" about the refs and how they call the game at IU!

I'm not defending the refs. I'm just trying to educate some on how they are assigned and how the concept of "B1G refs" is false. Every one of the refs that has been mentioned by name has done multiple games in other conferences this year. The site I linked earlier gives very detailed info on foul calls by each ref. It also breaks it down for the home team and visitors. Way too much info for me to wade through. My only point has been to dispel the idea that we have different refs than other conferences.

I think some refs even do more than one game a day or at least did years ago. Never did think you were defending the ref, but I don't think all refs see the game the same. I believe that the taller refs may have a lean different than the shorter refs. In all of life I have encountered many times people with the same task...some will be more lenient on the rules and others sticklers...even before their understandings or interpretation of the rules enters the fray. Again, I think when something out of the norm catches our eye...we notice. In all of the season, there was one game (MSU?) where there were more moving screens than all the other games put together...for MSU and Purdue. In every game there exists several opportunities for a lane violation and yet this doesn't even happen once a game...why no coaches would ever teach 3 seconds in teh lane since it almost always is at least 4 seconds. Look how many people move early on FT's and how few of times it is caught? I don't think refs cheat, but I do think they have bad days and I do think some have more ego than others, and I do think some like the attention and I do think as in any group setting a "leader" emerges in the group and that person has more say...but it all is mostly noticed when it doesn't fit our paradigms... :)

There is no reason a touch foul on a drive has to be called, but some given the opportunity do and others see no effect on the game and disregard if light bumps....
