Out-STANDING!!!
This is great news. However, our offense still has a lot of questions. This is awesome news!
Edit: Our offense will be a nightmare for opposing teams.
It'll be interesting to see what decision Alaimo makes based on this announcement. Although I love seeing O'Connell come back, we could see Alaimo transfer...

Maybe. But the backup has seen a lot of action for this program in the past how many years. With Plummer gone, Alaimo is one bad hit or twist of an ankle away from starting. It'll be interesting to see what decision Alaimo makes based on this announcement. Meh don’t think so.. if anything this is good because if Oconnell gets shaken up, hurt or we are up big, now we can go right to alaimo without wasting those reps on someone who isn’t likely to be next. This likely ensures that we go straight from a really good QB who is ready to make decisions with speed and accuracy to another QB who is the same. That's absolutely true. And that's my concern. If he believes AOC gets the lion's share of playing time next year and Allen's coming in below him, it could cause him to want to go somewhere he won't have as much competition. And then our QB depth goes to crap...Maybe. But the backup has seen a lot of action for this program in the past how many years. To your third paragraph .. brohm can go to the very best receivers in the portal and say “how would you like to come to David bell U and catch passes from the third highest rated passer in the nation in 2021.”This is great news. However, our offense still has a lot of questions.
We have problem at RB that needs to be worked out. Our OL should continue to be better, but it is not consistent, especially against teams that have great DLs.
We are losing one of the best WRs that has ever come through Purdue. I am hoping that Wright will be the person that takes up that role, but he has not been consistent. Yaseen looked Bell like, but how will he come back from his injury. Rice has not been able to stay healthy his entire career at Purdue, maybe next year is his year? At WR, maybe someone like Burks or Sullivan put it together in the offseason.
The one area that we are good at is TE though.
Honestly, I think brohm’s offense is not something you can master as a RS freshman (Allen in 2023) unless you are the cream of the crop mentally and in terms of coordination. That's absolutely true. Look at this from Alaimo's point of view. He's likely not going to get the starting nod come September. He has Allen coming in behind him who looks like the real deal and who might be more than competing for the starting job the following year. If I'm someone who wants to be a P5 starting QB and get to the NFL, this is about the worst news I could get.Meh don’t think so.. if anything this is good because if Oconnell gets shaken up, hurt or we are up big, now we can go right to alaimo without wasting those reps on someone who isn’t likely to be next. Sindelar seemed to learn it OK after a season...Honestly, I think brohm’s offense is not something you can master as a RS freshman (Allen in 2023) unless you are the cream of the crop mentally and in terms of coordination.

Don’t be shocked if we land a huge fish or two … huge.
There are always going to be questions and holes to fill. Brohm got it done with Mahoungou, Philips, and Anthrop. WR is our deepest position, with at least 5 guys who are more talented than the 2017 group. This is great news. However, our offense still has a lot of questions.

I agree with you on this. The offense will be more dependent on how the OL progresses than it ever will on who our WR's are. And when you look at the talent and depth of our WR corps, wow...There are always going to be questions and holes to fill. Brohm got it done with Mahoungou, Philips, and Anthrop. WR is our deepest position, with at least 5 guys who are more talented than the 2017 group.
Aidan must be pretty confident in these guys to come back and bet on putting up some strong numbers and improving his stock.
The biggest help will be a serviceable running game. It literally has nowhere to go but up = #127 out of #130 teams in rushing offense in 2021. James and Marks should help immediately.
And to what program is a totally unproven guy like Alaimo going to transfer where he has a better position than the #2 guy for a P5 program with a dynamic passing offense? And then the inside track to be a 2 year starter.. I'm not saying he might not put out feelers, but there are two sides to the equation. This isn't Justin Fields we are talking about. That's absolutely true. And that's my concern. Not something I hope they go back to continuouslySindelar seemed to learn it OK after a season...
This is a great thing for Purdue this season.. I think saying “what if a guy who held the ball almost as long as Jack plummer when he got to play vs Connecticut decides to leave” is similar to “Oconnell shouldn’t make a throw if there’s a possibility a pre arrival tackle on the WR could lead to a pick six if not called”Look at this from Alaimo's point of view. I agree with the fact that AOC is injury prone, which could open things up. And I want Alaimo to be there if that does happen. But is Alaimo willing to take that chance?
I love the situation from Purdue's perspective, assuming that Alaimo stays. It's not bad news for Purdue. It's bad news for Alaimo. I just hope he decides to stay. This is a great thing for Purdue this season.. My source last week was hyping up both:Great news and smart decision.
He can put together a complete season and solidify himself as a draft pick.
I don’t think penn state is going to be any sort of lock to beat usMy source last week was hyping up both:
Purdue to run the table after Pedo St.
Aidan to be in NYC for the Heisman presentation.
Biased, yes, but still.
I'm not sure they are even going to be favored at R-A.I don’t think penn state is going to be any sort of lock to beat us
AgreedI'm not sure they are even going to be favored at R-A.
Much more concerned about Wisconsin (as always)
Patience is a virtue. The portal does not help one develop patience. We'll see what happens soon enough.Maybe. But the backup has seen a lot of action for this program in the past how many years. With Plummer gone, Alaimo is one bad hit or twist of an ankle away from starting.
Amen to that. My hope is that each of these kids see their situation and options as clearly and realistically as possible. But "the grass is always greener" is a popular saying for a reason.Patience is a virtue. The portal does not help one develop patience. We'll see what happens soon enough.
Pretty confident Indinia would welcome him with open arms given their situation...And to what program is a totally unproven guy like Alaimo going to transfer where he has a better position than the #2 guy for a P5 program with a dynamic passing offense? James barely played there...does not mean that he is not better than anyone at Purdue, but, not as if he is going to step in and suddenly Purdue is set at the position.Isn't James, the iu transfer, expected to step in as our RB1 next season?
RB and OL are huge questions, although the question at RB is less...just compounded by the question at OL.This is great news. However, our offense still has a lot of questions.

Does Horvath have an offer to come back?James barely played there...does not mean that he is not better than anyone at Purdue, but, not as if he is going to step in and suddenly Purdue is set at the position.
He is very talented...but, OL has to be exponentially better for that to even matter.
At least he has a QB that will put pressure on the defense, so, it helps him and others in that regard.
It would be nice to have Horvath back...and Doerue returns...so the talent at the position is better than it was.
Hard to imagine Indinia landed a guy from Auburn and another from UNC this week already...and Purdue is picking up guys that did not even play Div 1 football.
Yes, but I think it’s understood he’s out.. I thinkDoes Horvath have an offer to come back?
I totally understand that.Yes, but I think it’s understood he’s out.. I think

Seems we’ve had more success with the transfer up guys than the transfer down guys.Honestly would you rather have a low impact (so far) Upper P5 transfer or a low level D1 or even D2 stud (someone looking to jump up)? A mix of both is probably the answer but I kind of like the guys that are going up
Agree.. appreciate Horvath a lot. We’d have been screwed without him amongst othersI totally understand that.
If you have your degree, and you’re a running back with any pro aspirations, you’re really just taking more tread off the tires by coming back for a 6th year.
