I haven’t seen much support for this from anyone on these boards but personally I could see Painter plugging him in with TKR as a possible starter to begin the season.

I know this will be a long shot as most people see Berg and Danielson as better prospects to man the five when TKR is at the four. However I know Painter is going to want some experience there as the season begins and who better to fill that role than Furst?

Playing backup to Edey limited Calebs minutes last year and to be honest he looked weak and uninspiring during the time he did play. Perhaps getting more minutes is the key to him breaking out?

Furst is definitely able to bring physicality to the post. However, his shooting has not improved over the last couple of years. He also has not shown the ability to guard more athletic bigs. He seems to get quick fouls. I am not sure more minutes will cure that.
Maybe he has improved a lot in the offseason. He seems like a great student athlete, so I would like to see more of a presence from him, but we will see if he has improved vastly over the last 6 months.

don't see it happening

Stats below are in reverse order. Note: Caleb was a starter and key contributor 3 years ago when Purdue first became #1 in the country under Painter. Since that time he has regressed statistically. I do expect Caleb will be much improved this year (if given the opportunity). He works very well with Braden in Pick & Roll situations.

I hope so. It would be great for everyone.

He’s a great kid. Smart too. I wish him the best this year on the court but he’s got a bright future no matter. And will have a fantastic degree or two.

I believe Jacobson will start from day 1 and Furst will be his primary backup and TKR will remain at the 4.

I could see Furst getting 15-20 minutes a game. I could see him scoring 6-8 points a game and 4-6 rebounds. That would not surprise me. But I also see Tkr elevating his game and his stats .

But I don’t see him starting or busting out and having an awesome year.

To be successful, Purdue doesn’t really need. Furst to have a break out year.

I can see Furst filling a role similar to what Gillis provided last year. He will provide leadership, mentor the younger players, And will not be a liability when he is on the court.
