If Danny Anthrop plays Sat., he's locked in for his sr. season.

What do you think? Should Hazell sit Anthrop so he can play next year? I say yes

I hope Anthrop plays the rest of the year and we need him to play well.Of course he might get hurt again but risking an injury is part of f ootball.

I said after the Marshall game that anthrop isn't back to 100% yet and should sit out this year. Hazell cares more about saving his job than Danny's well-being.

no way is Anthrop 100% plus we are on track to have another terrible season. Why not let him rest and recover till next season.

He just does not show the same burst when he gets the ball, which is not surprising since it has been just a few months since the surgery. That is another reason I hope we do not try the Sindelar route this year.

I would agree that saving his job is one reason for him playing this year. I am sure the other reason is that Anthrop is a competitor and wants to play, even if he is not 100%, which is very similar to Hummel.

I don't get why he's returning kicks. Makes no sense.

Sit him, please! He has a chance at a pro career if he gets 100%. Why waste his chances playing for nothing.

This. Kick returners often face pretty big hits. There's got to be someone else who can return kicks. Also, Anthrop is good, but he's not amazing - and is not really your typical return man given his speed is not that great.

I think he should play for sure.

Very possibly Anthrop just wants to finish his senior year and move on. I'm not sure whether DH is making a poor decision or not, but I hope the player's had a voice in the matter.

Yeah, the player can ask to shirt. DA wants to play.

why would Anthrop want to continue to play for a coach that is the worst in Purdue history, probably wants to get this year over with and leave

I would assume that he wants to play. If I were him, I'd rather sit and be 100% next year. But if the kid wants to play and is medically cleared, it's hard for any coach to sit him for a redshirt year in this situation. However, he has looked like a shell of himself and I would encourage him to be back next year.

seems to me, that this is DA's decision, now if he has any aspirations on playing at the next level, it would be in his best interest to sit.

My opinion is this: he is the best option we have at WR so he needs to play. If he's healthy enough to be out there, then he needs to go out and play. Hazell is coaching for his job at this point so he doesn't have a choice. There's no goodwill for him to fall back on.

The better question here is if he plays, will Shoop call plays that utilize our players strengths? I don't understand why Shoop still has a job. We have seen nothing - NOTHING - from him that suggests he is competent to be an offensive coordinator.

Carl Landry did it in BBALL. He played a few games and decided the knee was not recovered enough and red-shirted, then came back his senior year stronger than ever and now is making millions in the NBA.

It is Anthrop's decision. We had stuff from Anthrop in our Wednesday notebook this week.

No no. Don't throw truth into this.

Everybody is having too much fun shitting on the coach for a decision that is not wholly his to make.

Let's not let reason and logic get in the way now.

He's a 21 year old kid - of course he wants to play. That's where someone who has his long term interests at heart sit him down and explain that he has a Better chance at a pro career if he gets back to 100% and then has a great senior year, just like Carl Landry did as mentioned above. But after 12:01 tomorrow that will be a moot point.

PB are you saying that the Head coach doesn't decide who plays? Please clarify. Is this your true view?

The head coach isn't going to make a kid play if he doesn't want to because he feels he's not 100% ready health wise. To suggest otherwise is ignorant. Coach Hazell obviously has a lot of shortcomings, but this area is not one to criticism him in.

It's documented what has happened in this situation. I trust that account. Hazell is not forcing him to play. Hazell is playing him because the kid feels ready and WANTS to play.

Are you supposed to not play your best offensive weapon because some message board poster might feel it's not best for him? Or, are you going to listen to the kid himself?

And then what if he doesn't get back to 100% or have a great RS senior year? The kid WANTS to play now and I don't have a problem with that. He's not being forced into anything and is on record saying that.

That you think you know better than the kid himself.....is hilarious.

All High level competitors will tell you yep, I ready to go put me in coach, it is their spirit… the coach has to look at the kid knowing that and make a decision for the team and the kids health… You should know that.
I don't believe Hazell is acting in his own self interest, but he may be letting the teams position cloud his better judgement.

Try NOT letting your best player play (when he wants to). Good luck....

We know he'd probably be better next year (or at least 100% healed). If he thinks he can get it done this year then fine....let him play. The insinuation up and down this thread is that Hazell is MAKING him play....when the truth is that this is 100% the kids decision.

This is not on the coach. You guys are just looking for something else to be complain about. The same people angry about this would be complaining that he's medically cleared and DH has decided to redshirt him.

Maybe we can blame Shoop for the torn ACL for teaching improper running form while were at it?

Anthrop is a fierce competitor. Its a no brainer to him... he sees his team out there and wants to be out there with them. as far as his professional potential, I think the only thing that hurts him is another knee injury. I could see him carving out a nice career for himself. He reminds me a lot of Julian Edelman. I don't think a sub par Sr. season wont really hurt him much bc he'll be able to convince the ppl who make those decisions that it was the injury. he'll be able to prove if he's healthy when the time comes.

To me, If DH fears his job is in jeopardy, he should urge him to play. If he thinks he's safe, he should urge him to red shirt.

next years team COULD be a bowl team if anthrop is tip top.

Of course he wants to play now, I would think it odd if he didn't.

But to argue its in his best interest from an NFL perspective is silly. He is nowhere near 100%, and likely wont be the rest of the season. But maybe he just wants to finish up with football and move on to his chosen career path, and that would be fine. Again, I just hope for his sake that someone with his interests in mind has sat him down and made all of this very clear to him.

I get that he wants to play. Why wouldn't he, but the question is would it benefit him more to sit out the rest of the season? Knowing how good of a player he is, I hate seeing him out there when he is not 100%. He is no were as good as he was last year before the injury. I hate seeing him have these average or below average games when I know he is capable of more.
