Was driving home late last week and had to listen to Les Grobstein....I know...basically this was his take...the Nike coaches get together and figure out where their top players go, same with Adidas...then their next best, ect....college coaches try to get in deep with these AAU coaches, who are no more than agents at this point, and provide "benifits" to raise their profile...money might change hands...but the final decisions are seldom the players to make.
Now, that's from Les, a long time Chicago whipping boy of a talk show host. It sounds both possible and probable, but I just don't know because I don't follow that closely....

Explain it like I'm 5.

It would actually be an easy thing to check as you could easily see what teams the top 300 or so players play for on AAU. From there, whether a players plays on a team supported by Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, etc., could easily then be checked by what school that player 'chose.' If there is a greater than 50% occurrence of these top flight players choosing schools that are also the ones that supported their AAU programs, you could easily make that determination.

There are obviously dirty tactics being used for many players and I know for a fact some players that have gone to Purdue have turned down money offers from other schools because they knew or their families knew it was the wrong thing to do. Now, I believe that players that are offered money are the ones that are coming from under privileged situations, much like Noah Vonleh at IU. I remember the story being he showed up to IU with not much more than a pair of socks and suddenly he was driving around in a car. It doesn't matter if that car was his or loaned or someone simply 'allowed' him to drive their car...it is still against the rules.

I remember some of friends on the football team needed a truck to borrow to haul some furniture from a family members house to campus for their apartment and they said they couldn't take the truck themselves, but I had to drive it because it would be an impermissible benefit. I asked them how when I would do the same for any of my friends and their only answer was that because they were athletes, it was different.

AAU is more corrupt than UK or Syracuse and world wide Wes rolled into one.

It's ruined the game for High school and colleges.
