AJ for Wednesday?

Considering we have NO IDEA what it's about, unless you do, I disagree. And you really think Painter wants to be sitting arguably his best player for shits and giggles? Yeah, no.

Considering you have NO IDEA what it's about, you're giving Painter all benefit of doubt and absolutely none to Hammons.

Putting your head in the sand, too?

Too stupid for words.

How about we let coach keep this private instead of benching A.J. in front of three straight Mackey crowds?

How about we let coach keep this private instead of feeding more material to the media who will cover us all year?

You seem to be the only one that has an issue with this. A doesn't. Nobody else does. Only you, and you seem strangely bitter about it. This has been a private issue. The consequences are visible, but the specifics of the infraction are not. How about we let this die a natural death, and stop dragging it around this message board?

We can make judgments based on the fact that a supposedly private matter should have been handled in private.
What facts? All you know is that he was benched for a couple games. That's all you or I know. No other facts. I can't figure your angle here, and why you think this is an issue. The NBA has given big $$$$ contracts to kids out of UK and UConn with known drug issues and behavior problems. If AJ plays up to his potential, nobody in the NBA will give 2 craps about this little benching. Seriously, nobody cares!

AJ screws up, and somehow Painter is wrong for holding him accountable? Jesus. As much as this board bitches about perceived injustices regarding other programs this is ridiculous.

I've never seen a sane individual argue that actions shouldn't have consequences or that a coach shouldn't discipline his players. This Born Boiler is reaching all new depths of stupid. And on a rivals message board that is saying something. These places are bastions of stupidity.

Actually I'm responding to attacks several regulars made on "Grego" earlier in this thread. It's a gang mentality that plays well only here.

Regardless of this message board and its extremely limited representation of the fan base, all Purdue basketball fans are going to be hearing this crap about A.J. again and again on telecasts all year long because of Painter's decision to bench him again as a senior, and I don't see any potential good in that. The outside focus on him won't die, so there's reason to vent, because it could have been handled in private.

A.J. will have to hear ongoing questions and speculation about his game -- his attitude, dedication, focus, work habits -- that will rile future fans against him more than any "bad-boy" image from a hoop factory.

Maybe if AJ wouldn't have &$!%ed up in the first place it wouldn't have cost him all of this alleged money you think he's losing. He knew the rules coming into the season, guess he should have followed them. Life is full of tough lessons, looks like he just got one.

Read closer. I've never said there should be no consequences for any actions. There was no arrest, no declaration of ineligibility, not even a set term of suspension, so I've said that his punishment should have been kept just as private as its reason. He could have been assigned extra work at practice or study hall, assigned community service, assigned personal visits to schools or nursing homes, all of the above and more ... anything but sitting in front of 12,000-plus fans, exposing him to more public speculation and impacting his future earnings.

Extend your concept of discipline to digesting information. Sit this one out, schmuck.

Could be. Problem for me is having to hear about this crap repeated each time we're on TV.

Hey born boiler idiot: how do you now this was coach painters decision? Ever consider it was university/athletic dept policy? Or NCAA policy? So is it possible Painter had no decision in the benching? And Painter is keeping it as private as possible all things considered?

Hey, crosswalk: Learn to type ... more than tripe.

"Policy" is public and definite. This is neither.

It is obvious you are not a parent or a coach.

Go play with ISIS.

CMP Boilers

How about you boot strap your way into D1coaching like Matt Painter did, win the Purdue coaching job away from him, and then make your own decisions. Right now Matt's in charge, and it's his call.

If AJ doesn't pay tomor then I am joining Born Boilers side.

I don't care what happened, it obviously isn't a HUGE deal or we would know some details. Hell, JT Barrett missed one game for an OWI that was 24/7 national news.

This is getting stupid. The season has started.

After watching KY, Duke, Maryland, Georgetown, MSU tonight, we need Hammons.

It never occurred to him before because he's never coached a potential lottery pick until this year.

Um, no. It never occurred to him before because paying an NBA salary to a player for breaking team rules is, well, beyond incredibly stupid. Not to mention it's against NCAA rules and the laws of nature. But the idea seems like a great idea to you.

I must admit-

Even I'm getting suspicious of WTF is going on now. No press, no formal statements just our team MVP sitting on the bench with no explanation. I for one am getting concerned. The season has started- and has now missed 2 exhibitions and 2 regular season games, with no certainty of playing tonight.

If this was truly an academic issue- a simple statement could/should have been made to diffuse the situation.

Frankly, I'm concerned its something more private that they don't want to release.

How about since we know it is nothing that would remotely get AJ an official suspension, the real reason is not our business?

Born "Boiler" has an agenda for some stupid reason but from everything we know it's a non-issue and just need to leave it that way.

It could be health related for all we know, we don't "need" AJH tonight to win (or we shouldnt) so let's not jump off the ledge if he doesn't play.

Sometimes it's the little lessons that matter the most, especially as seen from afar/the future.

I trust Painter

I think it's interesting how the internet has given instant access to vast information nowadays but when a subject doesn't have an answer or clearcut reason immediately our minds wander for needed knowledge. It's our human nature and present culture I guess but we really have become creatures of our own devices. I have to say I keep waiting for "an anonymous source said that...'.

Wow, I am getting really deep here. Help!

Gem,

It's called Acute Broussardianitis.....no known cure.....but get plenty of rest and stay away from ESPN to help relieve the stress.

Yes I understand that we don't need him tonight to theoretically win the game- it would just be nice to have him clear up his issues and get him up to 'game speed' prior to our tougher Non Conference games.

My concern is only due to other team infractions that have been public had specific penalties and suspensions. This has been completely silent, yet still appears to be quite 'stiff' in terms of punishment. He has essentially missed 4 games.

That said- I'm a fan of CMP and always have been. And I understand this is AJH doing and up to him supposedly to clear up. Let just hope its taken care of sooner rather than later.

Boiler Up!

People need to understand that it is illegal for anyone to disclose information about a students grades or anyone's medical condition, without permission. It is PRIVATE. And it's just common courtesy to withold any personal information that the public does not need to know.

Why do people feel they have the absolute right to know anything and everything about a college student? I find it bizarre, but I suppose it's why gossip magazines at the grocery checkout are a thriving business.

Interesting points.

I will dovetail a little on what Gem posted. I think it's a combination of the technology available, the "instant gratification" phenomenon/syndrome, the 24/7/366 media cycle now, and maybe unwittingly, some people having lowered their expectations of privacy......or at least how it relates to others and what they should/should not expect. Look at all the "candid" videos and pictures that get posted all over the web. Some of these have to be clear invasions of privacy, but it's so pervasive......how do you practically approach addressing it? How about those that post "self-incriminating" pictures or videos (what are they thinking)?

I also think......just because we have the technology......doesn't mean you have to use it for any means possible.......well except for Steve Austin, of course.

Or a Boiler.

Just spent a weekend of attending Purdue basketball on Friday, Purdue football at Evanston on Saturday and Purdue basketball on Sunday while you sat home on your BBG -- Big Butt Growing.

Context, Freddy. I responded to a question about Painter's consideration of his player.

As for the coach's money, I'm sure A.J. would be happy to wait until after the season.
