Actually a silver lining

Please...stop...making...excuses.

You do realize your just a fan right? You are just one of thousands with an opinion! You have zero to do with their success. It doesn't define you or your life! So if we want to make excuse we will damn well do it.

But to the silver lining? Is it ever good to lose?

These are young guys really.

Four of the eight rotation players are juniors, along with a fifth-year senior, two sophomores, and a freshman. In college basketball, that's called an experienced team.

If you want to live in an alternate reality and lie to yourself, go ahead. Many of us prefer to stay in reality, for better and worse.

Me?

I just want my alma mater to hit their damn free throws.

Nothing else to take from that game.

Basketball is simple. Reduce your TO's and hit your free throws. Do that for 6 games and you may like the results.

yes we wanted to lose so we will be fresh come tournament time. Maybe then purdue will win the opening round.

I don't think anyone wanted to lose today. However there might be a good thing come from it. Let's look at the pattern from last year. MSU and Purdue battle it out in the BIG title game in a terrific and Tyring game. How did both teams do in the next game?

Gee, let's hope for maybe the outcome (or better) that last years BIG champ got. Seems like IU did a bit better last year, after losing early in the BIG. Maybe they went into the NCAAs fresher and more ready to play.

Every one is always looking at patterns. Let's work with this model. Maybe there is so much parity in the BIG that we wear out our teams in this worthless money grab of a tournament.

Not to stroke your ego, but you are actually one of the few sensible posters on this board.

I would actually prefer to win the bt tournament championship because realistically Purdue wont go far in the ncaa tournament. At least we would have some trophy.

I hate the loss. but I think purdue went into the ncaa tournament tired last year.

lol I am sure they came into this game tired too. LOL adversity makes champions and from the looks of it painter has made this players into a bunch of chumps.

the loss does not appear it will have a huge negative impact on tourney seeding so.... oh well.

rest up and start the win streak when it matters next week.

(although I'm not sure im excited about the extra long extended rest all big ten teams will have next year)

Yeah painter said on his show on Monday night that they may try to schedule a nonconference game during that break between the Big Ten tournament and The NCAA tournament.

So would that be senior night - assuming it's a home game?
I think it would be cool to try to line up Wichita State to play a neutral court game, maybe in St. Louis. Their conference tournament always finishes a week before selection Sunday.

Another silver lining.... Carsen played great and looked like his old self! We are going to need him as one of our x-factors if we are going to get past the first weekend of the tournament.

I wouldn't say he played great. He's still not great at making valuable passes in the halfcourt offense (maybe one good post feed to Haas in the game was his best pass), he forces the action a bit too much and as I mentioned somewhere on here earlier, he had two or three drives into the defense when he could have stopped, pulled-up, and shot it from about 10 feet or so. He also had some defensive lapses (one in particular ending up as a replay breakdown on the broadcast) where he lost his man off-the-ball when a screen was set on him (i.e. he did not anticipate the screen well).

Was he Purdue's best scoring and offensive threat of the guards? Yes, he definitely was vs. Michigan. Did he play great? I would say he played well (from the bar he has set for himself this season) but he definitely had some miscues, just like many of his teammates did.

I'm totally on board for this unless its a very poor opponent who won't test Purdue and can only hurt us were we to drop the game.

I think it is the opposite, I think any mojo they picked up from wins like OSU, Maryland, etc. was negated by this performance. Now in a week when Directional State starts pressuring us and the 10 point lead becomes 8, 6, 4, etc., this loss will creep back in.

True. I guess I was trying to make myself feel better so some of these miscues were conveniently (but honestly) forgotten. I would have to agree and say he played pretty good and looked better than he has in some of his more recent games. We are still going to need him playing well if we are going to get through the first weekend of the tournament IMO.

I don't think they necessarily went in tired -I think they went in maybe a bit complacent as they were on a high (including us on this forum who many felt we were going to get a better seed than we did). But what brought the team down last year was facing a team that pressed and scored 25 points off turnovers. Yesterday, we saw again what could be our biggest match-up issue - playing against teams that draw out our big men to the perimeter with athletic bigs.
