When Coach Tiller’s teams were moving up and down the field on Big 10 defenses and earning/winning bowl games, we often heard rumors of “the big boys” coming to try and hire our coach away.

Every year it seems there were a half dozen new teams interested in stealing our coach yet he retired here.

I will go home and hoist a cold one to Coach Tiller and his loyalty to Purdue over the years.

Still watch on YouTube his farewell speech after that IU game every once in a while

He was the best. A lot of those Pac 10, Big 12 schools, anything west, did come calling.

Tiller was a good coach. Too bad fans ran him out of town because of a few bad years due to one recruiting class who ended up being more criminal or injured than talented. I would have gladly given him at least 2 more years to recuperate but the spoiled fans were upset that we weren't competing for the conference championship. We all know what happened after that.

It was time for him to move on. Just like it was time when Keady was "retired".

Tiller definitely got tired of the recruiting process at the end.
It was time. His teams hadnt beaten a ranked team since 2003.

Just because burke hired the wrong successor doesnt mean the decision to move on wasnt the correct one.

Whisky supposedly came calling at one time didn't they?
Not true, At least not when Barry Alvarez was AD. Alvarez and Tiller were never friends. He thought Wisconsin engaged in negative recruiting practices while Alvarez was HC. He enjoyed close relationships with Paterno,Saban, Ferentz, Dantonio and Walker. Colorado was closest position he considered -that was around 1999.

Also, to add to Coach Tiller's legacy, we wouldn't have "Boiler Up" without Arnette Tiller.
That is something I feel will never go away and will be said with pride by Boilermakers forever
