Devils advocate take; Well if he were yo prove to be a top 1-2 scorer then if paint is objective about it he could take advantage of that and relieve some pressure to score off of Smith and provide him with another opportunity to dish out even more assists. Just continue using the top scoring options available…

We had a decent fast start signing Cluff… it seems multiple other B1G competitors have signed multiple decent players already … hopefully we are nearing securing another high quality addition or two
We are currently in a dead period where coaches can’t contact recruits. Also it’s early still. Guys have to just declare prior to the 22nd and then can get recruited/sign later after that.

Players can still transfer/commit and initiate conversations through agents or via phone or digital communication during dead period, right? Just nothing in person or on campus visits?
I don’t think Painter is telling guys they’re going to be the third scorer. He’s probably telling them that if they prove it, they can be the leading scorer.
He should be selling the fact that you have a presence down low, a big time facilitator, a 40+% 3pt shooter, which all means more open looks and teams not being able to focus on him. Sell him on being the missing piece to a FF team.
It’s tough to judge European prospects, but if you’re curious about Omer Mayer a good comparison might be Kasparas Jakucionis. They shared a similar development path and faced comparable competition in FIBA.
Quick comp:
- Jakucionis is 6'6", Mayer is 6'4". Jakucionis is about five months older.
- Both were selected as BWB All Stars (Basketball Without Borders) —Mayer in 2023, Jakucionis in 2024.
- Club Play: Both guys played limited minutes against high level European competition (although neither was spectacular)
- FIBA U18 Stats: Both averaged 18+ points, 4+ rebounds, and 5+ assists. Mayer was slightly better on the boards
