It seems your sources were right about Heide. You think that means we should be expecting Harris to portal soon as well?

Sounds promising, that’s all that I’ll say, don’t want to get in trouble on here. He’s who I’ve been pushing for, I think this kid was better for SIU than Lance was. Reminds me of Loyer and I'll keep Loyer. I'll take the Serbian. He looks like a multi level scorer.
So, for everyone that was pearl-clutching and hand-wringing about Painter going to the portal because they were worried about team chemistry....I guess we can forget about that now?
For now, 8 man rotation has 1 portal, depending on West/Benter development, 9 out of 10, rotation portal wing 8/10………. Culture can survive, just with portal spice
Chemistry is still important. Sure, in the portal era, especially where we are right now, roster turnover has not been avoidable, but I am certain that Painter is vetting the guys that he is trying to bring in to fill the voids.
Btw, I still think that the roster is solid as it stands right now. Another wing would definitely be nice, but the projected rotation is really still in great shape.

Hearing Brian Neubert compare Jack Benter to Dakota Mathias makes me curious about whether he will be able to crack the rotation as Loyer’s backup next season. I would not rule it out.
Yes, with the Big 3 you have the culture leaders. Others have & will gravitate to their leadership. Sounds like Cox and GH have from their posts. Sure others will too.
But after next year when the Big 3 leave that might be the challenge year? A HUGE void. Perhaps extremely challenging?
But I wouldn't worry about next year if the Big 3 stay intact.
Loyer vs. Benter. Well which one Ds it up better? We will see. We know Loyer struggles their sometimes.
But we know they are both dead eye shooters.....thus, minutes will come for Benter if he can play B10 defense. CMP values the offensive options of both, but it's D he needs out of both.
This thread needs a quick summary page up front you could spend all night reading this.
Hoping Benter is up to the D part because Loyer is terrible on D , that's where Lance made such a difference. Most good guard teams wore the boys down this year.
It feels like if we need benter to be our guy then we are in trouble there next year. Never seeing him play, but relying on a red shirt freshman as an important rotation piece feels like a bad move for a team that is in absolute win now mode.
We need a wing from the portal badly.
I don’t see it quite that way. Between Loyer, Cox, and Harris, Purdue has really good options to cover the minutes at the 2 and 3. Any minutes Benter or West get, they are going to have to earn, even prior to bringing in anyone else.
Exactly. I fully expect them to still add a veteran guard or euro guy for the 2 or wing. Maybe a Combo guard and a 3/4 combo. I think Painter is ALL in for a championship run and guys who are staying have bought in even if it means dip in minutes due to adding talent to bolster roster.
Smith/Loyer/Cox/Harris are already way ahead of most teams in country at gaurd.
West and Benter are there for depth, but if they crack rotation it will likely be a GREAT thing as it means they are the real deal.
I don’t think adding 1 player is going to screw up the team chemistry or disrupt anything. If we had a full roster turnover like Michigan or Illinois are doing, I’d be worried.
If you are comparing Benter’s defense to Loyer we are in trouble
If Painter is comparing Benter’s overall game - including defense - to Dakota’s that is a net positive. Dakota was all conference defender.
My point was we don't know anything about Benter:s D. That's how freshmen see the floor....so for folks that know Benter is a dead eye shooter and might take that role as a Loyer replacement off the bench, he has to D it up first.
