2025 Transfer portal thread

You know we are going to talk about it. Might as well start a thread to consolidate the discussion. I'll start the conversation with an interesting entry....

Love J-bird, but I don't believe he nor Katie would expect an offer from us. Unless, I'm completely wrong, but they do have a great relationship with Walt.

Don't know his game. Slasher or shooter? Good defender?
Honestly, his game reminds me of B.Scott. I would say he's better at the drive and a decent defender. He tends to shoot from the hip. So, his shot is pretty inconsistent.

Gritty player and that comes from Mom. I just think we could get a better player with our options, but "who knows".

Looks to me like he may be looking for a division school to play for his last year. It’s also possible since it said he would be a grad transfer that he is looking to transfer to a school that offers a master’s degree in his area

I doubt we add another guard other than Antione West jr. And what big would want to compete with TKR for post touches? Yet I am nearly 100% sure we add a player from the portal. As for Jackson I sang his praises and wanted Purdue to offer him out of HS. Purdue never had any interest. IMO Daniel is the missing piece to another finial four run.

I agree, unless there is unexpected attrition. I'd guess the most likely adds would be a slashing wing and/or a versatile 4/5.

Hard disagree - who is backing up Jacobsen and TKR at the 4/5? Berg isn't working out and Burgess will need a big jump to fill those minutes. Bringing in a solid vet to provide reinforcements is needed.

As for the guard situation, pretty sure most thought we didn't need Lance but that was the missing piece.

Did you watch many of Jackson's games at Carroll/Northrop after Katie took the position? Good kid with a lot of grit, but he's not Purdue material....IMO. I truly believe we can get something better out of the portal.

We have no guards/forwards who can go and get a bucket whenever they want vs whomever they want like Claude did last night.

We need a player who can back up TKR when he needs a break or gets in foul trouble. We have no down low threat when he’s out. DJ and RB are going to be good but we can’t risk hoping those two can be the ones to produce when TKR sits. We need a guy similar to TKR who can score around the bucket and/or a rim protector because DJ prob is only playing 20-25 MAX mins. That leaves 15-20 mins open. RB fills in 8-12 maybe? Still need someone who can fill the rest of mins.

In addition to west, we will also be adding everyone’s favorite guard Barbie!

I’d prefer Jacobsen to start. But I can’t see him playing more than 25 minutes. And I really don’t want Berg on the court. So I would like to see an experienced center added via the portal. And a physical PF who loves to rebound And throws his weight around. We need to become more physical in the paint. This would allow TKR To expand his game.

I can see Jacobsen being a rim protector and catching a bunch of alley oop passes.

What I would love to see. Is a Dennis Rodman clone. We need an enforcer who can clean the glass and then give it to someone else to lay it down.

Just curious, does Dickinson have any years left? I guess 10 years is the limit? Any more of those 25 year olds out there with 5 fouls to give? Dennis Autry was good at that. He had no other skills other than hacking people!

On a realistic side, if one of our talented guards currently coming off the bench is unhappy and decides to leave for increased playing time, I would welcome an experienced guard who could mentor our young incoming guards.

And on a serious side, I’d like to follow the philosophy of Duke. I believe they signed Gillis to be a mentor for Flagg. gillis has been everything they hoped for.

But what Purdue really needs is a Green or Rodman to be their intimidater! We need to strike fear! Bang some elbows, get in your face! Bring it on and bring it home. We need somebody from outside Indiana. We have enough nice boys who can catch and shoot the three! We don’t need another hero. We need a villain !

I was just thinking about it. If she were a guy, Iowa’s Clark would be the typical Purdue Boilermaker. She passes, plays fundamental basketball and shoots from the three. But what Purdue really needs is the female forward from LSU who is her nemesis and the villain! I bet LSU fans love her! And maybe we could get Painter to change his wardrobe and hairstyle! Maybe a plaid jacket or leather! Become a hard ass!

And yes, I realize they are both in the pros now!

I think Daniel is the missing link on this years team, but we lose Furst this year. Next year we need solid depth at the 4/5 so that we don't have to rely on Berg for bench minutes. Daniel and TKR can't play 40 min a piece so we will have Burgess and who else to help off the bench?

I should have read down the thread before replying the same way. Our 4/5 has zero depth next year. Hoping Burgess has a huge jump is a ton of risk and still extremely thin at those positions. We need a portal big that can be impactful on day 1.

I generally try not to post immediately following a loss but this team clearly isn't going anywhere this year unless they shoot the heck out of the ball. Not good enough to have average shooting days against good teams.

It's a big ask but I agree that adding someone in the mold of Claude or Tonje would go long way.

This would’ve been a close game if we had an average shooting game. Unfortunately our big three was 14-48.

And all 3 played terrible. Maybe to many minutes , or just a bad game. I believe we are in a pick and roll rut, that’s all Braden and Renn think of instead of spreading the ball around. Big problem this year is we put all of our energy into 2 or 3 players instead of developing a bench and spreading the ball

Unfortunately, I think the PnR between those two is our whole offense right now. We haven’t developed anyone on the offensive side other than the big 3 all year. Colvin and Heide are starting to finally shoot it better and Harris is playing better as of late. But if one of the big 3 doesn’t play well, the offense is not great, due to the way it’s set up.

Nailed it. I was amazed that we were within 4 at the half given the number of open looks missed by Fletcher and Braden. Never really got going in the second half. For the rest of this season if they team doesn’t shoot well they’ll lose.

And whose fault is it the offense is stuck into pnr ? Thompson or Painter

It's definitely our whole offense right now
