2018 recruiting radar

Not hitting the panic button but I have taken it out of the desk drawer and am looking at it

anybody out there ever learn matrix math? I thought it was the stupidest thing ever, but it did work.

I might have missed something, but how would adding THT give us 3 straight classes with at least 1 top 50 player?

I said top 50 caliber players. Carsen was just on the U19 team and was one of their best players. I would say that makes him a top 50 caliber player, regardless of what his rankings were before a single game was played. I couldn't name 25 players in that class I would rather have.

I am projecting Eastern to end up as one of the 50 best in his class. He has great size and athleticism and I would be shocked if he doesn't end up all conference and possibly even all-American.

THT probably won't break the top 50 before he signs, but when it is all said in done, I doubt there will be 50 better than him in his class. That is what I mean and why I said top 50 caliber.

To specify, I could care less how they are ranked before they play a single college game. Vince was outside the top 100 and there is no way there were even 60 better players than him in that class. He was a finalist for U19 last year and is a projected late first round/early second round pick. I wouldn't saddle him with his 120~ ranking. One could argue he is a top 50 caliber player by that logic.

I hate to be on subject, but who is the new juco big man we are supposedly recruiting? it's in the trending articles.
Shaq Carter. Supposedly he is pretty legit Juco player. Aggressive on the boards and can block shots too.

I just found him using some search skills. he's from Eastern Florida St . they played for the Div 1 nationa l championship last year. he's 6'9 240 and averaged 9 ppg and 6 rebs, and made 2nd team all Southern Division. they have another guy named Shaq seville who made a great impression at some recent juco all star tournament. http://www.efsctitans.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/bios/carter_shaq_s9vz?view=news

Shaq had a 100% 3 point %. he made 1 of 1 attempt. to go along with his 6 rebs per game, he had 39 blocks in 37 games. and his points per 40 minutes was 16.9 , although he only averaged 21 minutes. we need to sign this guy before others realize that stats don't always reflect the total picture.

his best game was in the national championship. however, they were blown away by 25-30 by a team playing on its home court. kind of deja vu.

Exactly. I'm guessing he is saying Carsen was top 50 the year before, and he was clearly outside the top 50.
I believe his words were "top 50 caliber" which implies they are in the ball park despite their ranking.
I would agree on that assessment with Carsen. We will see soon with Nojel.

Something happened. Even as he was getting offers he was liking Purdue posts and then it just... stopped. I think something happened behind the scenes. I thought we would make his top five, but it did seem like Purdue is out of the running.
It is interesting that none of the teams in his original top 5 made the new top 5.

Would be interested to know what changed but got to move onto the next one

Seems to be happening more and more too. And there is no real rhyme or reason to some of these lists or who a recruit chooses to play for in the end.

To me it just looks like recruiting has turned in to a crap shoot.
so Jaxson Hayes visits Purdue this weekend and "someplace" had Purdue on the "cool" list...

There are certainly more variables, IMO, BBG, and less margin for error. CMP seems to be building on some progress....perhaps more slowly than some/many would prefer. Although he has some limitations (judge that however you want as personal shortcomings, lack of resources, institutional culture/academics, etc.), I see no compelling reason he can't continue to be more efficient and successful with top targets. JMHO, I do think that next level of success with recruiting will depend upon a greater level of success in the post-season.....that's a little of the chicken/egg concept there, isn't it? However, there's definitely been a gradual transformation of the team....in the right direction from my perspective. Okay....my cup of Kool-Aid....errr....coffee....is getting low.

Not sure I would change a thing...

To the kid the list is a snapshot in time. Fans will dig up a list from two years ago and by God that list is the gospel truth in their minds. The kid may not even remember who he said in whichever interview at the time.

In the "video" he posted, he shows a list including Purdue from his "original" cut and then shows the new final 5.

Then he remembers. Good for him. That's better than I can do:confused::p.
My attempted point is that the kids will change there minds, a lot. And fans will remember and obsess over the last list they saw.

Shows you how silly these "top 5" lists are.

can I quote you on that after all the flack I took earlier this year about recruits constantly changing their top 5 choices and then signing elsewhere? t's another example to prove my point that top 5 lists change all the time and are meaningless.

I think that was me you argued with, and yes, I will give credit where credit is due.

So with WUG's in the rear view mirror, what do you believe CMP's recruiting radar looks like to complete this class?

I am just glad this WUG is over so the staff can turn their full attention back to recruiting to hopefully get some guys (esp. Hunter in particular) to commit.

Well I believe we have 3 visitors lined up in the next few weeks with Castleton (unless he cancelled), Hunter and Kisunas.

I would expect them to be on the road watching some more kids and making more offers but not sure to who.

Have we offered Kisunas? A little concerned about his offer List and ranking, but maybe we are on to the Plan B guys now.

I believe we have offered him. I get his ranking isn't high but he is going to play at Brewster and all his rankings are based off of international play.

on a related note, Rivals updated their rankings today, and Henry jumped a bunch.

I wouldn't say a panic quite yet...but maybe more like "waste of time recruiting all these kids we missed out on so far". Kinda of a disappointment so far other than Williams...holding my breathe and hope for Eric Hunter!
What more does Painter have to do to land these kids he has been recruiting forever? Seems like he has better luck with guys he didn't recruit as long...idk if that's good or bad!

It's the curse that goes with the blessing of being really good at evaluating future talent at an early age, determining if the recruit is a PU kinda guy, and pursuing him. As the player becomes better, other programs jump on ... and the beat goes one. As those players choose elsewhere, Painter goes to a file with sleepers that he thinks have a high up-side with some downside (CE) ... and the beat goes on.

High ceiling, low floor ...... high ceiling, medium floor.

If you've participated in a fantasy football draft (I use FB because there are a lot of players at few positions) it is like having your list of high upside, no downside, then high upside, some downside, then some upside, some downside.

I can relate to that. I've won a bunch of fantasy leagues with good talent, and a lot of FA action. My teams always had good players, but never the elite players. My teams won because my bench players were almost as good as my starters, and made significant contributions to my overall fantasy score. I found a way to win without Westbrook, Lebron, and Durant.
