The consensus is that the Indiana 2017 class is stacked. Does anybody have a feel for if Purdue's in good shape with any of them?

247 sports shows no interest in Purdue from Scruggs, Williams, Wilkes, and Jackson.

I really don't know how these kids view Purdue, but I want to see Wilkes in Gold and Black more than anyone. Kid seems like an absolute stud. I think this would be as big if not a bigger of a signing than Swanigan. Prove that getting Swanigan was not a fluke and the kid just looks really really good. He has future star written all over him. Given, I would take anyone on that list. All are going to be very good players.

247 often fails to report Purdue interest even when Purdue is actively involved in a recruitment.

things change all the time, but I have to think Purdue is in good shape with Willaims. The Fort has been good to Purdue for some time and I "think" he has been to Purdue a few times...same for Wilkes. Don't know anything about Jackson. Actually don't know anything on any...but what I have read. haven't heard much on Scruggs although Purdue as others have been on him for some time. I have to think that Purdue is pretty high with Williams, but these things change all the time. If Matt locks in Indiana with a couple of these kids...especially Williams Purdue could be strong fro a while. biggie doing well at Purdue can't hurt with Williams. Williams can look at Edwards and see the versatility of the game allowed...

I have no inside info on any of these...strictly what I have read...which could be a farce when all is said and done

If any of you are in the Indy area, I can't recommend enough getting over to Southport to watch Scruggs in person. The first time I saw him was summer ball after 2013/14 season (I think). He is going to be the real deal, just incredibly smooth. I will be shocked if he's not a runaway for Mr. Basketball by his senior year.

Also, Purdue has offered Scruggs per his Rivals page, so not sure I believe the 247 site saying he has "no interest" from Purdue.

Saw Painter and staff at a few Southport games last year to see Scruggs and Brunk. Have heard Scruggs could have some academic issues that could put Purdue at a disadvantage.

Williams, Jackson Jr are the guys Purdue has a good chance with in Indiana. Nojel Eastern in Illinois is another one in 2017.

Wilkes, Xavier Tillman and Jeremiah Tilmon we have a chance, but likely outside looking in.

From what I have heard, Scruggs has no interest with Purdue at all.

So what does Mitchell think about Purdue after the Johnson brothers and will he be an influence in any way?

Eastern will end up at MSU

Very possible. Easily as possible will end up at Purdue. Couldn't even play in our Elite Camp but cane anyway just to hang out with the coaches and team. Also said that we are in contact with him every week and he likes coach Painter and the team.

Every recruit says the same things tho about every school. The Elite Camp thing stands out to me.

I really don't buy this. How poor are his grades/test scores?

There are numerous students every year that would have a popsicle's chance in hell of getting into a Stanford, for example, had they not been an athlete, yet still end up there. I get that you can't have a kid who is a complete joke in the classroom, but unless Scruggs has serious, serious academic issues, I really don't see how Purdue would be at a disadvantage. In that case, so would Michigan, NU, Wisconsin, Penn State, Illinois, etc.

Just looked through the Rivals150 list and damn...Loaded with Indiana and Illinois kids with Purdue Interest. I honestly want to bank all the scholarships and just add Edwards. Class is loaded with talent that could come here.

If we have a shot at players like Bruce Brown in 2016, you take that player, no matter what chance you have at a 2017 player.

Purdue needs at least a good big man in 2016 since Hammons and possibly Biggie will be gone.

Wouldn't mind filling up in 2016 if it means a legit big man and Bruce Brown.

No guarantee that we even get 1 of those highly rated 2017 guys. Would like to have 3 schollys for that class tho.

I agree get talent when it's available. Nothing is guaranteed and we could run the risk of missing out on all the high end talent and getting stuck with projects or kids that aren't really big ten caliber.

I am fine with a class of Brown, Edwards, and a LEGIT big man. Just don't want Painter to use the 2016 schollies on developmental players or a 2/3 year average talent Juco big man just for the sake of filling a need. 2017 is too loaded to add anyone in 2016 that would warrant the thought of a redshirt for even a second.

I know it was just an example, but I think Stanford is the one school in the country that doesn't make exceptions for athletes.

I would assume the other poster was saying Purdue would be at a disadvantage not with other B10 schools due to academics, but would be compared to lville or Kentucky.

Is a legit big man even on the radar for 16? I thought that ship sailed with herard. It seems like now it's brown or bank scholly.

Hopefully a successful season puts us in really good shape with these 2017 guys.

Yes, Stanford most definitely makes exceptions for athletes. Do you think each of the football/basketball players at Stanford had grades/test scores identical to a non-student athlete? For the most part, no way; however, I'm sure each does meet the 'minimum requirements,' whatever that means.

Went to HS with a girl who was on a full-ride at Stanford for diving; she was very smart, but diving was her ticket in, and she'll be the first to tell you that.

If we're comparing Purdue to Kentucky and Louisville, then yeah, I think that's entirely fair, but even so, I'm not sure how big of a deal it is. Thousands of kids are accepted into these schools...unless the kid is an atrocious student/has serious issues, admitting one kid is barely a blip on the radar, imo.

Terone is a Boiler through-and-through. I'm sure the 'issues' with RJ and his dad are common knowledhe at NC. If anything, the way fans treated Terone may turn off a recruit - and his coach.
Well said. It is disappointing to me that people play the guilt by association game with Terone. TJ worked his ass off at Purdue and would have been well regarded had he been the 3rd option on each of his teams instead of the first. He was never good enough to be the alpha dog and there is nothing wrong with that.

I go a step farther and don't think treating Ronnie poorly was a good thing. That said I still remember Mitchell in the stands at the end of the season smiling as Ronnie blew by some people in whatever games those were Purdue was playing at the end. What Doug may have heard may or many not be accurate and I just wonder...will it play on Wilkes???

Fans everywhere can be stupid. I don't even think treating Ronnie poorly was acceptable either..

As someone said earlier, I've heard that Purdue has a real shot at Jackson Jr, Williams, and Eastern. Wilkes is also someone that is possible but he might get swept up by a blue blood school like UK or Duke. Seems like a long shot for Scruggs. There are a lot of talented bigs and forwards in the midwest in 2017 that I hope we can get.

Let's hope that Purdue has a great season this year and it helps influence these 2017 kids to come our way. I think we have a chance.

I think we will have a really good season and will need to do so to lure one of these top 2017 guys. Hammons and Davis will be gone and possibly Swanigan next yr. This will be the year to show people that Purdue has what it takes to win big and top guys like Swanigan can come here and succeed and have a good time doing it. I love Mackey when its rolling and if these guys visit, they need to see it. Sounds like the team really likes each other and off court chemistry is real good. So, long story short, I think it can be an attractive place for guys but who knows with teenage kids.

This season could open a few eyes with some of these kids. If Purdue ends up being as good as most think, we will be in the running.

Actually, in his Senior year at Purdue, Terone fell into the same mindset RJ did and actually played worse than RJ.

Painter even stripped TJ of his captains title in January and gave it to Ray instead.

I lover Terone up until his Senior year, where I thought he played the same selfish ball RJ did, and played it worse, it's just that he wasn't the PG so it went less noticed.
