Besides the 3 pg's that we are after who else are some legitimate targets in the 2016 class? We will have at the very least 3 open schollies and we haven't had a commit yet. I know we have had some recent luck late in the game, but you would think there would be some names that we should be hearing that they should be committing soon or taking official visits. The only official I am aware of is Lucas's. I know X. Simpson is supposed to reschedule his, but I haven't seen and official date set.

Out of these names I think we still have a chance, but don't think we are the odds on favorite for any:

Schnider Heredad - made his top 10 ten cut list, but I would be surprised if we even get an official visit
James Banks - Just transferred to Indiana to finish his High school basketball. Still going to be an uphill battle.
Bruce Brown - not hearing much on him lately.

I know pg is the position of need and if we land Xavier Simpson the 2016 class could be consider a success just with his commitment, but would still like to see some more Purdue mentions by some other positions.

Especially now that there is a real buzz about the program for this upcoming season.

Its very likely Purdue only takes 1 guy in 2016. One of Simpson, Edwards, or Lucas. PG is the only need in 2016.

If Purdue can get someone else, then it will, but that is becoming more unlikely as time goes on.

Look at the team. We will lose 3 players at the end of this season and will still be about 2-3 deep at every position except PG. PG is really the only spot on the team that will be available for starting time.

PG: Thompson, Weatherford
SG: Stephens, Mathias, Cline,
SF: Stephens, Mathias, Cline, Edwards
PF: Edwards, Biggie, Smotherman, Taylor
C: Biggie, Taylor, Haas

On paper even the PG spot is deep, but we know how thin it really is. It is very easily our weakest position while the other 4 are very talented and very deep.

2017 is where we should be looking to to get a great haul of recruits seeing as this year would have passed and now the whole country knows how good Purdue can be and doesn't look to be slowing down much.

The 3 PGs are really what the staff is hammering away at and if they can get Banks, Herard or Norvell on campus, they will try to sign them.

I would like to land a PG and go all in for Banks. If we miss on Banks its alright because 2017 is loaded and Taylor is a quality Center

35, I'm all for jumping on the Taylor bandwagon but you might be a little over zealous with your assertion. He has the potential to be a force in the post but I'm not sure he's a center in this conference. I hope he did add 20 lbs of muscle. He and Haas might dominate the paint eventually.
And I don't mean to pee in your cheerios my friend :)

Reading the tea leaves from Simpson's visit to ISU, I would say that it very unlikely that we will land him. Here is a quote from his father after the visit, "I am not going to pretend that X is a guy who is going to be one and done. I know he isn’t, but at the same time I have told him I don’t think he needs five visits. This was his first official, and I do think for sure he needs one more so he can compare something else to Iowa State, but I don’t know anything after that.” Given that he has already cancelled our visit (and there is no indication of a reschedule) and likely will take only one more, IMO, this ship has sailed. My money is on Lucas.

Bold prediction: Simpson commits to PU, Cumberland de-commits from Cincy, and switches to Purdue!

LOL, but, in all seriousness, it is slightly concerning about the lack of '16 commits. It's almost as if recruits won't consider the buzz legitimate until results show next season (which is fair, I guess). If Purdue finishes as a top 15 team, I would imagine that would help considerably.

At this point, Painter just needs to make sure he reschedules his visit to give Purdue a chance. In that case, it will be a good thing if they don't see the need to schedule all 5 visits.

From what I can tell, the current Purdue players should be a great asset if he makes it to campus.

I do agree that the quote above sounds favorable to ISU.

Also, there's always possibilities of redshirts. I wouldn't be surprised if a non-freshman redshirted.

It'll be a gut punch if we don't even get a visit from him. Put a lot of time into this kid and hopefully it was a family matter for why he canceled his visit before ISU.

Do you go on knucklehead central? Brian has already addressed this. No need to worry.

Also, he is retweeting the conflict/hype tweets that both ISU and Purdue fans are tossing at him. His Dad even chimed in that he's enjoying the tweet banter (in good fun). I trust Brian's assessment.

Admittedly, I am not a premium member. If Brian is confident in the face of all the other indications, then I'll hold out hope. One thing for sure, on the surface, ISU just doesn't make sense.

Of the 39 players that Purdue is showing interest in for 2016 (according to Rivals), only 10 have committed to other schools. That means almost 75% are still uncommitted. And it seems like new uncommitted talent is appearing on Purdue's list every week.

Really there are only 6 players Purdue is "actively" recruiting IMO. All the others were quick looks or evaluations. It only really needs 1 PG.

Brian doesn't go out on limbs, so if Brian said anything positive, take it to heart.

With Edwards commit guess Brian was a bit off at least in his confidence about Simpson being in play.....Edwards in the fold, Simpson not even a visit.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

CMP was in "the first PG to commit gets the scholly" mode ever since he offered multiple PGs, so how was Brian off with regard to Simpson? Simpson may very well have decided to go to Purdue had Edwards not committed first. He didn't make a planned visit earlier in August, due to a death in the family, but was rescheduling.

I don't see any evidence that Brian was off.

Correct, really thought if Simpson could of reschedule we had a very good chance but oh well. This Edwards kid looks like the real deal and plays against top notch competition

I don't pay for premium content but that is more a function of time (I don't visit or post that often). Usually I visit this board only when I am between girlfriends.

One definitely sees the value that premium content adds, and to a large extent, those who pay for premium content is supporting the gathering of valuable intelligence that the Purdue community otherwise would not have.

Disagree. Would say more but your Mark Twain quote at the bottom of your post ....tells me not to. :)

Yikes.

Fortunately for you I'm able to have a discussion without it turning into an argument.

Sooo...

Here is what you originally posted:

If I were to infer that you're saying that Edwards' commitment proves that Simpson wasn't interested in Purdue, would I be mistaken?

Smac....just having fun with you. As the emoticon should imply.

I just think Painter knew Simpson was off the table and proceeded accordingly. Brian did not know this per above and thought Simpson was still in play and was attempting to reschedule. Thus, if you connect the dots Brian was off. No biggie, he is correct a lot.

I am not a pay site member, used to be and thought Brian's work was good and well worth the price. I no longer am a pay site member simply as I do not like being called a Knucklehead. If those that do like that name and want to pay to be called "knuckleheads", great.....I just am not one of those.

So you are speculating with no proof and saying it is evidence Brian was wrong?

Simpson may still be in play. Nothing says he isn't, except our assumptions that he would not want to play with another PG on the court. Maybe Edwards plays at the 2-guard spot with Simpson at the 1? Personally, I assume the Simpson ship has sailed, but we all know what making assumptions means. Painter could take 2 players in 2016 (AJ & Davis).

Painter could take up to 3 players in 2016 with Hammons, Davis, and Hill all leaving after this year. If he only fills 1 or 2 scholarships in 2016, it won't be a bad thing. He could use those extra scholarships on 2017 kids..that '17 class, especially in Indiana, is loaded.

You no longer pay for content because of name calling?

Forgot about Hill's schoilarship. Thanks for the correction.

Yeah, not a bad idea to bank a few for 2017. Indiana is not only loaded, but it's loaded with top 50 talent!

I'd love to see Purdue add Zach Norvell. Check it out: (especially the video) http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...oints-drops-14-3-pointers-in-las-vegas-video/
