Yes the coaching staff talked to the players earlier in the week of their evaluation of playing next year. None of the guys would have been expected to make the 2 deeps. This was all anticipated.Hopefully this is mostly eliminating players not expected to participate.

As someone who attends practices, this comment is totally offensive!got rid of alot dead weight
It seems like we are landing 2 to 3 Portal transfers a day right now. I think the players departing realized that their playing time was going to be very limited after the conclusion of Spring Practices.Hopefully this is mostly eliminating players not expected to participate.
Don't forget maintaining the level in the classroom to continue playing. As someone who attends practices, this comment is totally offensive!
There are over 100 players that bust their rear-ends in practice, running, lifting weights, attending meetings and so on. So they don't make the 2-deeps. Most of us here wouldn't even make the 10-deeps!
They run, they block, they tackle, they hustle, they lift, they sweat, they bleed!
I hope they find a place where they can get playing time, but THEY ARE NOT DEAD WEIGHT!
I think this post symbolizes the new era of college sports perfectly (which I hate btw). In the past, most fans would support every single kid on the roster unconditionally knowing they were committed to the program and vice versa, thus thinking it a shame when someone leaves. As someone who attends practices, this comment is totally offensive!

Every year almost all the roster will be expendable as players will chase the money. Coaches will be recruiting players on the roster game after game as players will be upset about playing time and the like. Every year as it stands currently, teams will have to pay up to rent players for a year. Commitment among players and coaches has come and gone. People are now a fan of the uniform, because these pros will come and go like the wind.I think this post symbolizes the new era of college sports perfectly (which I hate btw). These days, I think fans will tend to lump all players in the same boat of being borderline mercenary's who are only as loyal and faithful as their opportunities warrant them to be. Therefore eyebrows will barely be raised as kids come and go. The bottom half of the roster suffers the most as they are not reaping the full financial benefit, but are clearly seen as expendable placeholders by both coaches and fans.
June is typically voluntary workouts. Then they have full practice for most of the month of august. That’s just the official schedule, plenty of time to learn playbook and other ways to prepare.Loyalty is a two way street! Are we going to have a second spring season with all the new players and without the ones who left?
This. Better to be honest now and give players a chance to go somewhere else if they want. Also I don’t think scholarships are renewed annually but new coaches I believe get two seasons where they can put players on academic scholarships and take off roster. The reality is they get creaned though where there’s just an honest comment they won’t play.If he honestly ranked his two deep with the best players unless there becomes an injury or eligibility issue he just laying it on the line for the players to decide to get in the portal or hope that they can move up. Scholarships are renewed every year now and MAYBE he told some theirs would not be! JMHO
Have the police issued an APB on any suspects who may have took him?Just lost our starting RT.
Not so, they are renewed annually except in certain situations such as a career ending injury a school may grant a full scholarship ride for the student to complete his education! This. And it’s automatic for 4 years as long as they are in good standing. That is big ten rules and has not changed. The two exceptions discussed are - a player can declare injury retirement and still get their scholarship but not be on roster, or new coaches have 2 years where they can cut someone. The latter rule has been discussed on other (pay) sites recently with Odom. Why would they have that rule if the scholarships weren’t guaranteed? Not so, they are renewed annually except in certain situations such as a career ending injury a school may grant a full scholarship ride for the student to complete his education!
I have not seen him on any depth chart as starting and he has not played with the starters regularly in spring. All indications was it was Bakyne Coly and coaches weren’t happy with Ball and brought in McCoskey over him and more likely our starting RT is currently not on roster, but visited yesterday and went very well, probably enough for someone to see they were about to be 4th on depth chart. Should know more very soon.Just lost our starting RT.
Still not correct as they are not 4 yr deals anymore and the same coach or a new coach can choose not renew the scholarship! And it’s automatic for 4 years as long as they are in good standing. Correct but that is a B1G rule not an NCAA one. If the conference wishes to remain behind the other conferences that don't guarantee 4 yr rides that is their prerogative but as I stated the NCAA does not give 4 yr. rides anymore! And it’s automatic for 4 years as long as they are in good standing. He cleaned house. Most of these players didn't understand his requirements and what he wants his players to do or become. He's running this like a business, and I like hit. Play hard, produce and you get playing time.....I like it.Hopefully this is mostly eliminating players not expected to participate.
Is it a problem? Why would they change it? Seems like coaches have no problem purging by circumventing the rules.Correct but that is a B1G rule not an NCAA one. It could work against a new Head Coach cleaning house from the previous one. Being told you are not on the two deep and maybe even saying realistically a player will never get there, may be the way B1G Head Coaches get them to hit the portal and leave. Is it a problem? So we see that you really want to become a Purdue fan (yea, yea UNLV), but seriously consider if you want to jump on the train that has delivered top 3 in the nation versus AP #1 all time…see when we’re good, we’re very good (Ohio State fans dread the trip to WL). However, you have to balance field storming unforgettable wins against hiring the most incompetent morons ever to be called coach…who are so bad that no one with an ounce of football iq would ever hire them again (sucks for you Washington). So it’s a slippery slope tripod, get on board! You guys have been this bad?
Then you hired his "sifu" or master? We get it, the nil machine is destroying college sports BUT your beef seems to be “how dare he poach players he recruited originally,” in a world where every single team is recruiting players openly from all smaller schools or less elite programs. You’re searching for ethics in a morally bankrupt industry - good luck tilting at windmillsThen you hired his "sifu" or master? Good choice.
One school at a time. One coaching staff at a time. The Sedur Sander kid got a rude awakening, didn't he?We get it, the nil machine is destroying college sports BUT your beef seems to be “how dare he poach players he recruited originally,” in a world where every single team is recruiting players openly from all smaller schools or less elite programs. There are far too many other more important issues in this life to even care a little bit about your concerns, just quit watching college sports if you’re opposed to these changes as you aren’t going to fix anything by trolling free boardsOne school at a time. I'm going to say it's virtually impossible for the coaching staffs to evaluate all 2000 (or whatever the number is now) of players entering the portal. The top 10% of those players will be known commodities that everyone will be going after and most likely falling to the Big Boys with the deepest pockets. The next 10% will be evaluated by film and stats and will be scrambled after by all the contenders. That leaves the final majority 80%....and one of the best ways to evaluate that will be via the secondary coaches that have worked with them. Going forward those guys are going to have a much bigger input on how a team looks, IMO.My source said that BIG10 teams would have a LOT more money to spend thanks to the BIG10 network contract and thanks to teams like PSU and Indiana participating in the playoffs last year.
It appears Odom is doing a good job using that additional money to attract a lot of transfer players Purdue would not normally attract.
I’ve also noticed a lot of the players that are coming to Purdue had previous playing experience with Purdue assistant coaches! I’m not certain if it’s the assistant coaches reaching out to former players to come to Purdue or if it’s players coming to Purdue wanting to play for their former coaches. But wow, this is something I haven’t seen in a long time! Players being attracted to Purdue to play for their previous coach. Just wow!
I’m not becoming a homer, but winning 4-6 games is starting to look more feasible. Winning 6 games and going to a bowl would be a nice step forward to regaining respect! Purdue is not in the same league as OSU, but we should be competitive against teams like Rutgers, Illinois, Minnesota, IU and northwestern .
Who in their right mind would like the remaining players on the roster. A couple of the better ones graduated and others transferred. The cupboard was bare.I believe after this year and Odom has a solid base of players that fit his style, you will see a lot fewer players leave and Odom signing a lot fewer transfer players.
I believe what you are currently seeing at Purdue is not totally related to NIL but rather to ODOM not liking the players who were at Purdue. Looking at our last 4 coaching hires, Brohm brought a lot of his players from WKU and players he was recruiting with him when he arrived. Hazell brought nobody from Ohio st with him when he arrived. Walters brought 1-2 players from Illinois. Looking at Odom, he brought a bunch of players from UNLV and a bunch of players he and/or. His assistants have previously coached. Odom is bringing players he is familiar with and who are familiar with him.
It’s also nice to see these new players are coming to Purdue from decent schools. Odom is not recruiting 2 star players from Wabash College Or Drake or SIU.
The cupboard was not totally bare. Mockabee stayed.Who in their right mind would like the remaining players on the roster. A couple of the better ones graduated and others transferred. The cupboard was bare.
. That's about as bare of remaining players as it gets. The cupboard was not totally bare. Mockabee stayed.
