To start of the 2015 Purdue Football season and Coach Hazell's third at the helm of the Boilermakers;

1) Enthusiasm from start to finish from our staff and players
2) Minimum of penalties and turnovers
3) DB's that play tough bump and run coverage in obvious passing situations
4) Multiple throws down field with at least one long completion
5) Win the turnover game
6) Plus side of third down makes and stops total
7) Improved blocking and tackling - need to grade out well
8) Minimum of mental mistakes and that includes play calling and coaches decisions
9) A Kicking game to keep us in the game and not take us out of it
10) A WIN dammit!

Sweet or unsweetened?

I'll try for you.
  1. Strong quarterback play
  2. Wide receivers that get open
  3. Pass rush
  4. Steady safety play
  5. Consistent running game
  6. Pursuit of the ball
  7. Offensive line play
  8. Solid special teams
  9. Play of freshman and redshirt freshmen
  10. Coaching decisions
Those are more or less in order.

Mine.

1. Can we get a pass rush?
2. Steady safety play
3. DJ Knox, is he as good as Hazell says?
4. Wide receivers, can they create separation and make plays?
5. Offensive play calling. I want to see us use the whole field and have a fully functional playbook and offense.
6. QB play. I want to see Appleby be efficient, don't turn it over, and enable the offense to play like I said in #5
7. This ties into #5, but can we stop the 3 & outs? Can we have a real offense that doesn't constantly leave our defense on the field.
8. Are the corners as good as advertised?
9. whether or not we can stop Devon Johnson
10. Good o-line play versus a smaller c-usa defensive line.

Somewhat in order of most to least important

Interesting guys. We at Marshall seem to be looking for the same ten things! We will both know this time next Sunday. Good Luck!

1. looking to see a win
2. looking to see we don't lose
3. our offense scores more points than the defense gives up
4. our defense gives up less points than the offense scores
5. the coaches look like fbs power 5 coaches.
6. looking to see players have improved from last year
that's all I got

Offense:
1: Skill of WR's in both getting open in 1v1 situations and their blocking on the outside to break long runs by Knox and Jones
2: Appleby taking hold of a game and controlling it through his play and moxy
3: Offensive line playing extremely physically and controlling the point of attack
4: TE's controlling the middle of the field to force the LB's the drop further back and open up the middle of the field for the RB's
5: Minimize the TO's

Defense:
1: Establish the LOS in the backfield and create a pass rush that allows the DB's to be aggressive
2: DB's play aggressive and create at least one TO
3: LB's get start the game and end the game healthy
4: Whoever starts at SS doesn't give up a big play due to blown assignment
5: Can Bentley improve and be a player that can control a game on the defensive side for the Boilers?

Special Teams:
1: Wiggs starts the year strong and becomes a solid weapon
2: Meadows is able to pin Marshall within their 20 yard line on every punt to give the Boilers the better field position
3: Can the KR's (Brown and Knox) be a weapon to give the Boilers good field position?
4: Frankie Williams is a dynamic PR and needs to give the Boilers a threat back there for returns of 10+ yards
5: Let's kick the ball through the back of the end zone as much as possible please!

Coaches:
1: Does Jim Bridge get his OL to finally play physical at the point of attack and control the LOS?
2: Does Jafar Williams improve the stable of RB's to be able to control a game with what appears to be a solid OL?
3: Can John Shoop shake the fans unrest of stale and ineffective offenses and does he show the ability to help the QB's grow in game situations?
4: Has Greg Hudson schemed effectively to stop a team consistently and generate a pass rush?
5: Does Coach Hazel move the program forward?

The Marshall game is about as great of a measuring stick for the program as one could hope. Purdue has come off of two woeful seasons but with definite improvement from year to year while Marshall is coming off a great season of their own. If Hazel and staff want to show that improvement is being made and make that impact to recruits, this needs to be a win.

I'll be looking at the conditioning of the team and how they will react to the heat.

ha ha, exactly right. just win the game

One thing needed is better play calling! Last year it seemed that plays that didn't work they continued trying, and those that worked were seldom run again.
