Why Furst will start

He's significantly stronger than the freshmen and Berg (at least through last season). He's also an all around better player than we've seen so far. I expect him to be one of the long line of Boilers that were ok most of their career and then had a big break out senior season. Quick shot of him finishing in traffic with his right hand brough a smile to my face. He has a really pretty hook shot that he's never really been able to show.
Then there's defense and he's been one of our best big defenders since he got here. It'd be great if one of the new guys showed too much and displaced him, but I don't see that happening as the team should be so strong across the board that it'll be hard for someone new to showcase themselves. (sorry KC)
Offensively, he might be as critical as some of the shooters because he's big enough and sets effective enough screens to actually get people open.
Zach and Mason were 2 of the best (big, tough and do it well enough) pick setters we've had through here in awhile. Braden and Fletch are going to miss them BIG time. TKR's been pretty bad most of the time and so that leaves the frosh and Berg, who didn't look great last year, but is big enough to be a factor if he 'gets it'.
I hope "the kids" are able to contribute and force their was into the rotation. That makes the whole team better come NCAA's.
But for now. Furst/TKR/Heide-Colvin/Smith/Loyer has a lot of BIG TIME experience (and success) and it's going to be hard to dislodge them from starting.
I think. ;)

Eight Purdue basketball targets in 2026 top 100

The 2026 Rivals150 was released yesterday, with all eight of Purdue’s offers being inside the top 100. See where the Boilermaker targets landed.

Purdue football 76 Days to Purdue Football: Ethan Trent

Ethan Trent - Fr. (RS)
Carmel, IN (Carmel HS)
6'2", 290 pounds
Offensive Line
2024 Projection: Reserve

Here is to hoping Ethan Trent makes his own legacy at Purdue. He came to Purdue last season as a true freshman preferred walk-on, and a large reason for that is thanks to his now departed big brother Tyler. When Tyler Trent was making headlines for Purdue in 2018 Ethan was his 13 year old little brother in the background.

That little brother has grown up. He is now 6'2", 290 pounds and trying to find his way as a Big Ten offensive lineman. He was a two-time all-state selection at Carmel and was originally going to play at Indiana State before Jeff Brohm gave him a preferred walk-on offer. Ryan Walters honored the offer, and Ethan spent last season redshirting.

It remains to bee seen when Trent will make it to the field, but somewhere his big brother si smiling seeing him in Gold and Black.

Purdue football 77 Days to Purdue Football: Mahamane Moussa

View attachment USATSI_21971075.jpg

Mahamane Moussa - Jr.
Indianapolis, IN (Pike HS)
6'4", 310 pounds
Offensive Line
2024 Projection: Starter

Moussa is exactly what you're looking for when it comes to developing an offensive lineman. He brok onto the scene as a reserve in four games as a true freshman in 2021, but retained his redshirt. That development was important as he became a starter in 2022. He played in all 14 games and started nine of them as a redshirt freshman. Last season he missed some time due to injury, but he made nine starts at left tackle,t he most important position along the line.

It is weird to say, but Purdue led the Big Ten in rushing in conference games last year thanks to Moussa opening holes for Hudson Card, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Mockobee. At left tackle he is in charge of protecting Card's blind side, and the experience he has gained should be invaluable this coming season. With him, Marcus Mbow, and Gus Hartwig as multi-year starters Purdue's offensive line is in a great spot headed into this year.

IBCA/IHSAA GIRLS TEAM SHOWCASE

Going to get a better look at some of the in-state prospects that Purdue is after next weekend at the IBCA/IHSAA Girls Team Showcase and MOJO Summer League. Both events will be with their respective high school teams.

College coaches expected to be in attendance as it is a live period as well.

Note: Possibly the last evaluations I will do this summer. (There is an AAU tournament in Indy in July, but that is TBD.)

Sleepy Mike

I always wondered how his NBA coaching would relate to college. Stogies and wine after a college game loss. Yep about right. Both stupid-s$it. Can’t wait to see him f’ up the mega-Simon family roster donation this year.

Purdue football 78 Days to Purdue Football: Bakyne Coly

USATSI_23015464.jpg
Bakyne Coly - Jr.
Farmington, MI (Lawrtence Tech)
6'7", 280 pounds
Offensive Line
2024 Projection: Reserve

Coly is a very interesting prospect for this coaching staff. He did not play football in high school. He was primarily a basketball player before going to NAIA Lawrence Tech and taking up football. He has the size and frame to be a tackle, however, so he transferred to Purdue before last season.

He did not see any action last year, but he was a starter at Lawrence Tech and played for two seasons. Being so new to football he is obviously a project, but Purdue has the depth to take on a project or two.

He is also an older player. From a newspaper clipping I found he was a senior in HS at Farmington HS in Michigan in 2019.
