Very impressive.
Also, Vince is listed as 6'7, Biggie as 6'8, but there looks to be more than just an inch separating the two
Vince is the guy I want to see run the point early in the season. It's just a feeling, but man we would have a very solid starting five with possible mismatches across the board.
One "BIG" thing I got out of those clips was actually seeing Swanigan in the Black and Gold. It's finally real.
And the Haas report that he has slimmed down some looks true to life here. As Tom Hanks said in A League of Their Own , "We're gonna win!!"
What makes VE unique on this Purdue roster is that he is the only proven 3 level scorer on the team.
Nearly everyone looks really tired in these clips. Were these taken at the end of a marathon scrimmage or something?
Yes, it is only a pick-up game and I don't think defense was an emphasis. While I really enjoy watching VE play ball, we shouldn't read too much into this clip.
CoBo
Agreed . The coast to coast was cool and all, but like you said defense was not really being played. I am just more impressed by the apparent increased speed and explosiveness. If he has drastically improved this, that will be there no matter what the competition.

When comparing stats on hoop-math.com http://www.hoop-math.com/Purdue2015.php, the number that jumped out to me was that VE hit 50% of his two point jumpers, defined as 2 point shots not at the rim. Meanwhile, nobody else of the team with a significant number of attempts came close to VE's percentage and the team average on these shots was in the low thirties.
Looking at the numbers, Edwards is arguably the most complete 3 level scorer that Purdue has had since E'Twaun. When combined with his passing ability, that makes him a crucial asset for the Purdue offense. If he is improving his athleticism, that's even better.
Raphael Davis is the other player who has the tools to be a competent 3 level scorer
Davis has certainly shown signs of that ability, but what's hard to explain is that Davis only shot 24.1% on 2 point jumpers last season, while his strength was getting to the rim.Raphael Davis is the other player who has the tools to be a competent 3 level scorer
I have a slightly different take on this. First, you might be over-thinking the 3 vs 4 position thing. With Painter's motion offense, those position declanations don't mean much. I think (1) Edwards' shot selection is better, and (2) he is taller and can shoot over people. IMHO, that explains much of the difference.Davis has certainly shown signs of that ability, but what's hard to explain is that Davis only shot 24.1% on 2 point jumpers last season, while his strength was getting to the rim.
Davis shot much better from mid-range early in his career, which makes me wonder if the difference was switching from the 4 to the 3 position. In that case, Edwards may have a harder time scoring from mid-range as a 3 as well. However, this is where I think that VE's length and craftiness may really help him against smaller defenders. It will be interesting to watch.
I agree with most of what you are saying. Put another way, increased usage is most likely the most significant contributing factor to Davis's decline (over the past 3 seasons) in efficiency when taking mid-range shots.I have a slightly different take on this. Regarding the shot selection, I don't think I have ever seen Edwards force a shot. On the other hand, Davis frequently is the last option as the shot closk runs out, and he is forced to throw up a difficult shot. I can't fault Davis for those shots, but it does tend to lower his average.
Hell ya, the summers are so SLOW. Gonna be a fun one and I will get to some gyms on the east coast this year. The more I watch VE play and grow, the more it really is evident his "star rating" was way off.
I haven't been this stoked for the basketball season to start for a very long time. I've always been pretty excited, but there is just something more to it that suggests the next couple years could be pretty special at Purdue.
My stats show that Edwards had the 7th best freshman year since 1992. Arbitrary year, but it's when I began tracking stats.VE = Best frosh year since E. Moore?

JOHNSON, R. 48.1
HAMMONS, A. 47.6
EDWARDS, V. 46.9
Thanx, but what do these numbers indicate?
OK. Thanx for the clarification. Surprising to me that Vince is below RJ in your scheme. Probably just the bad taste that RJ left and I really like Vince. Not a man crush, but as a BB player.
Its hilarious how posters feel the need to declare their sexuality. We get it, its assumed and the default position, so you don't even have to qualify yourself. When you say you like player XX, you do not imply any homoerotic feelings.
I mean, I like Jessica Alba but only as a woman. She can't make a layup to save her life

The formula, which njm posted not long ago, rewards statsheet stuffers and gives a high weighting to assists. RJ was a talented, staff stuffer with high assist totals, but unfortunately he had his own agenda and, from what I can tell, was hard to coach.OK. Thanx for the clarification. Of course there's nothing wrong with homoeroticism
