Officials with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago announced Sunday that they have allowed water from the Chicago River to go into Lake Michigan to help alleviate shoreline flooding after heavy rains pounded the area.

Jfc. It used to run into Lake Michigan pollute it EVERY DAY Einstein. They reversed it permanently in the early 1900s to keep sewage and runoff from polluting the lake. It’s only been reversed a couple times since to prevent flooding during heavy rain. But leave it to you to completely mischaracterize the rare event to make it seem like a catastrophe.

City records show its happened about three dozen times since 1985. Looks like it’s more than a couple times since its been reversed.
