Wow. Arizona and Fox Sports is all class.

I figured it had to be something that just sounded like what I thought I heard.

Arizona player with a chokehold on Markell. Fox sports be like, "that's just a bit of friendly trash talk."

These clowns in the stripes are clueless.
Don't jinx us! That's the first half of Purdue football I've seen in a LONG time where we didn't seem to be on the wrong side of all the 50/50 calls. I'll take it!

I couldn't make out what brohm said pregame...
"thats what this team is known for, bringing the _____?"

thought first he said funk, then thunder lol

At least 2 holding calls missed on Zona RT 67, multiple missed facemasks, that Zona player taking multiple swings. These refs care about as much about this game as one would expect I suppose.

Did you catch the end of the pre-game talk?

Classy.
I am not a fan of those things being miked up in general. Some things should remain sacred. That is more on Fox than RR as much as I dislike RR

BS...leaders of young men should not condone using that kind of language in private or on National Television...their Coach deserves the nickname bestowed upon him since he is one!

Let’s just see if their University or the PAC levels some sort of fine or punishment for that pregame performance.

Using your holier than thou ideology, what should we do for our own Coach Brohm?

"On the second day, Jeff Brohm made the walls inside the new performance facility rattle. And he was standing outside of the $65 million building, which is scheduled to open within the next week.

After two skirmishes involving players pushing and shoving – basically showing off their swagger - Brohm had seen enough. This is what we wrote:

Brohm stopped practice. He unleashed about a 30-second profanity laced tirade directed at the behavior of the players. Words of these nature haven’t been spoken at the Bimel Practice Complex in years, if ever.

Colorful doesn’t give Brohm’s language enough credit. It was classic. Those in attendance will remember it forever."

Did CJB do it when he knew live television cameras were there covering it?
No?
Then it’s apples and oranges. Case closed.

One does not need to use profanity to make a point...yes, it should apply to him and all coaches. Don’t know Brohm’s exact words, do you? Isn’t STFU coming from the Arizona players.....

I didn't say that. My argument was it is a stupid practice on all accounts. It is conceivable AZ did not know it was on live TV. If Richrod knew it, he should have cleaned it up. Fox should have had a delay. The damn thing was prerecorded anyway so why air it?

Ghost said "public or private" and got on that soap box. A practice outside open to media would be a public setting. I am pointing out probably 95% of athletic fields use some blue language. I don't care what these guys say.

The fact a beat writer who has covered the team for 25 years said it was remarkable has a lot of credibility in my opinion, yes. So what if he did? Just be careful next time you point fingers.

There's no need to be careful when pointing fingers, if the fingers are being pointed at actions that deserve to be called out. This deserves to be called out.

You think it's okay for a coach to encourage a team to shout, "STFU" before going out on the field. Duly noted. I wouldn't want you leading young men, if that's your M.O. But, let's be clear, that's what DickRod has done . . . condoned it. It's clear that's not the first time they've done that. If he wasn't okay with it he would have put an end to it.

Now . . . if Jeff Brohm allows or encourages that type of behavior, I'll call him out on it. But, using someone else (anyone else) in an effort to lower the bar is wrong.

Well, dick rod is still the same dick rod he was at Michigan. Nice to know some things don't change. He is still an ass, and his teams still act entitled, like they shouldn't be asked to actually play the game. Never cared for that coach. It was nice to knock him back a peg.

Please, please, please read. The issue was a COACH using foul language. "One does not need to use profanity to prove a point." Read it.

Allowing his players to do it is another issue. I would wager 90% of coaches use blue language. And if not a head coach, he has some people on staff who do it.

You must hate Gene Keady, Jim Colletto, Joe Tiller, Jeff Brohm, etc. Having attended open practices over the years you heard your GDs, MF, etc. They or their staff used profanity to make a point, especially with their players, their staff, and officials. Right or wrong it happens. Saban, Coach K, use it which was the issue, NOT allowing players to do it.

Waiting to hear what Brohm said from you...I called out RR for allowing it to happen in his locker room and that he should be held accountable by the PAC or Arizona University...read, read ,read as you have noted.

No chance. This is not someone on a cell phone recording this. This is a professional tv camera man and would be quite obvious he's there.
Now, RR could have assumed Fox would bleep it out, but that's still not exactly behavior I would try to be instilling in my team.

In the end, this is on Fox. Somebody was asleep at the wheel and has probably already been fired.

This story really isn't enough evidence foul language was used to get a point across by our coach? Really? What do I need to provide? Again, I have no beef with the language.

“Run their (butts),” Brohm screamed.

The whole team ran sprints."

Wait a minute . . . doesn't "BS" belong in the realm of foul language? We all know what that stands for (at least I assume we do). Aren't you using foul language without really using it?

You can be as condescending as you like, and you can try to make it about hate if your position is that weak. (That's the sign of a moronic argument, trying to accuse people of "hate".)

This is NOT about coaches using profanity, it was about a specific coach condoning vulgarity used by the entire team, immediately before a game, with all appearances that it's been a part of their pre-game ritual for some time. Here's a hint for you: it was rehearsed! It was not spontaneous!

What's more, I started the thread, and the point of the thread was that it should have NEVER occurred, nor should it have been aired! Now, you can change the point if it fits your narrative, but it should have NEVER happened!

You might think the use of that word is just fine, but it's not. And it's not good leadership for a coach to condone (or possibly) promote the use of it, when said coach is in such a position of leadership.

This really isn't that hard.

No, apparently it is that hard and being on vacation with -2 degree weather gives me time to argue with a mope. You started the thread, the jist being, Fox shouldn't have aired it, Richrod shouldn't have said it or allowed his players to swear. Am I correct so far?

My response was it is 100% on Fox. In general, I do not like pregame speech cam. The guys who work for the program should be privy to that. That is theirs to hear, not mine. I put it 100% on Fox because it was taped several minutes before. Correct me if that is incorrect. Both teams took the field, UA first. Then they showed the pregame speeches, Purdue first. I am going to estimate 6 minutes elapsed from Arizona taking the field until playing the clip. To not watch in the truck or radio the production team and say, "problem" in six minutes is remarkable. I said it is conceivable UA did not know it was being recorded. Camera was behind all players, with Purdue it was facing all players. I blamed Fox, we disagree but you like to be the contrarian I get it. Are we still good?

Then the Ghost comes in and makes it a morality issue. A completely different point. If you want to hate Rich Rodriguez there are dozens of reasons why. But to do so because he "uses foul language to make a point." Coaches who do that are "poor leaders of men." Paraphrasing here. Well I have to call bull on that and used examples of our own beloved coaches who "used profanity to get a point across" including one loud example from this year's fall camp. I said if he "hates" Richrod for swearing, then he has to hate the rest.

So the second yarn here was a morality issue about coaches swearing.

Again, I don't care for the players doing it, but they are not my concern. In many cases if you want to promote that, an acronym is used. Like if we made team t-shirts BTFU. Players would have their own deal with F for "fudge" but could say Boilers Together Fight Up.

Have a pleasant evening and stay warm.

DickRod didn't say it.

What coaches do or do not say is irrelevant.

It should NOT be a part of a team chant, condoned by the coach. Period.

It doesn't matter if a coach uses an expletive at an emotional time during practice or a game. It doesn't make that coach a bad person or a bad role model. We've all done it in the heat of battle. However, it's ignorant to use that to "lower the bar", and is incredibly poor leadership, as a leader of young men, to permit/condone/approve of the use of vulgarity (like "STFU!") as part of a pre-game ritual.

Again, it's not that hard, and the fact you're an advocate for it causes me to wonder why I'm wasting my time with someone so out of touch to think it's okay to create such an environment. You might choose to live your life like that, and think it's okay to tell young men to make that a part of their regular vocabulary.

It's not. And, if you're being honest when you say you don't care for players doing it, then don't excuse DickRod for being an advocate for it.

A "mope", huh? Somehow, I'm getting a clearer picture why you're okay with such vulgarity.

Let’s just see if their University or the PAC levels some sort of fine or punishment for that pregame performance.

It appears you're stuck in the same time period that your avatar comes from. It's a bowl game, the final game of their season, and for a lot of their players it's the last game of their careers. Find something worthwhile to get bent out of shape about.

Every player in that locker room is an 18-23 year old adult. Something tells me you'd have a much different opinion of an Army Sergeant or Lieutenant using profane language at his 18-year old infantrymen. Something about learning to be a man and protecting your country, etc...

Also, if you're that outraged by a coach who condones foul language, how do you feel about our basketball coach, who has committed some pretty serious sins in the eyes of God, and has been known to throw around a profanity or two?

Don't insult people who are older than you. It's unbecoming, crass, reeks of immaturity and doesn't advance your argument.

As I've stated before, it's one thing for a "leader" to utter a 4-letter word. It's something completely different to advocate those young men chant something so vulgar as "STFU".

Just because someone "has committed some pretty serious sins in the eyes of God", that doesn't mean we throw up our hands, say "oh, well, anyone who wants to sin, have at it, it doesn't matter anymore." That makes no sense. We should hold ourselves to a certain level of decorum, especially when it comes to actions as a team.
