50-32 Iowa at the half. 10 TO led to 14 Iowa points. Purdue early foul trouble. I have hopes things get better, but I hope the rest of the season doesn't turn into a football type situation. End of 3, Iowa 66-47. I think we had it cut to 8 at one point in the quarter. Final 84-63.

Another blowout loss by a program continuing its decline. Had hopes post Versyp, but we aren’t seeing anything that gives us reason for optimism.
Does unlv have a good wbb coach?

The ceiling for a hire will be Goshen College or Bethel College from our Administration. But heck, they have the best 3 point shooters our coach has ever seen. Wink.
Nah, you think too big for Purdue. Courtney Delks coaches a high school team right? Alumnus, basketball coach, female.... She checks all the boxes Bobinski will look at.

We got pounded in the paint and on the boards. 48-22 scoring and 42 -27 on the boards. Lana McCarthy getting called for two fouls in the first two minutes took away any physical presence down low. She came back in the 2nd quarter only to get another one called quickly. Not saying if they were fouls or not but I just wish they would make the same calls on all players of both teams.

18 turnovers is still way too many but Iowa had 21 and won by 20.

Iowa just has a much easier time scoring than we do. More weapons.

Eager to see more of Jordyn Poole. I am a little concerned about her size....she's short.....I wonder how she is going to handle some of the larger guards in the conference.

A couple more observations. I haven't seen Alaina Harper on the bench the past few games. Maybe she's there and I'm visually challenged. Lol. Just thought it was interesting.

Also Reagan Bass sat for most of the second half. We were getting crushed down low and probably our most consistent post player so far is watching from the bench. Just curious as to the reason.

Yeah Harper's been missing since at least the Ind st game. I only noticed because Puryear went down with an ankle injury in that game and we'd be pretty thin at the 5. Harper wasn't in a recent team meal picture either, not sure what's going on.

Nice to see Puryear back though.

I think Bass made a bad play and CKG was done with her for the day, she wasn't providing much up until that point. Took alot of weak contested shots in the paint.

She definitely needs to be stronger with the ball sometimes.

That's one thing I love about McCarthy. Once she gets a grip on the ball not many people are going to take it from her.

Pairing McCarthy and Gordon at the 4 & 5 next year will hopefully put an end to Purdue getting pushed around like they did against Iowa.

The main issue with this team is - we are extremely young at two critical positions - point and post. I knew this going into this season and the staff decided over the summer to add experience.... on the wing. So that was definitely a choice - but ok. We are a developmental program now. But no one should be confused at how we are going to take L's to teams like Iowa while we "develop" our freshmen. It's a choice - one I wouldn't make - but hey - I don't make the big bucks. KG does...and this what you get.

Purdue if they want can be a player in women’s hoops, question is will they want to be? Like anything else now, if NIL is good players will come, if it’s mediocre you’ll get transfers like Lombard and Bass from small programs who really won’t make a difference in wins and losses. As for Harper, she’s probably a great kid, not a Big Ten player, that was a transfer that probably didn’t need to happen.

Alaina Harper was recruited to get Caitlyn back for her 5th year. Beyond that she has no value on a Big Ten team. There is no reason beyond gross incompetence by CKG for recruiting Collier and Mahri Petree. Bass was the best pf the staff could land, but she is not a BT caliber player. She also seems a low motor kind of player, only interested in getting her points. You cannot call this a rebuilding year when you are playing transfer seniors the majority of the minutes. It's just a lost season with a coaching staff that has no idea how to build a winning team.

Pairing McCarthy and Gordon at the same time sounds like something CKG would do, but it would be a recipe for losing. Neither Gordon or McCarthy are quick enough to guard a forward that can shoot threes and put the ball on the floor to blow past them. Puryear might be able to play the 4 but that's not a given either.

Really want to know why we have players sitting out games for personal reasons weeks in a row.

Is Jayla Smith even on the team any longer? Not that she'd make a difference, because she hasn't shown anything in her four years, but yet another player sitting out for personal reasons.

I still see Jayla on the bench. I have no idea what is wrong with her. Obviously the coaching staff doesn't think it is any of our business.

I haven't seen Alaina Harper for a couple games now. So I'm guessing she may have left the team. Kind of surprised Mike Carmin hasn't mentioned something in one of his updates.

Yeah Russ Ford, I see all your laughing at my posts like a hyena, but if you want to impress anyone on here that you know what you are talking about, you need to actually post something cognitive about the games and team but the only things you post are praising CKG regardless of her obvious failures and your infatuation with Smith, Jones, and other in state players despite their displayed complete ineptness at playing Big Ten ball. Neither of which show any actual understanding of basketball, certainly not at the Big Ten level.

As an old H.S. girls coach I know how difficult it is to please everyone. I also know one thing for sure, you have to have the right horses to win. Sometimes even with good coaching, you may not have the talent to compete, and other teams just have more talent and quality coaching to go with it at the H.S. level. However, when you are a college coach and have an opportunity to recruit that changes the narrative. Going in, I thought we had some talent, not Big Ten top talent but certainly enough to be competitive. I was a Swanson fan and guess still am but not sure we have enough talent around her for her to get open 3's. Maybe she lacks on the defense end. I have no idea what goes on in practices, but the coaches know. I don't know how many seasons we can be satisfied with being young or rebuilding. I've giving KG and staff the benefit of the doubt, but a corner needs to be turned. for fans like me to maintain my interest.

I would be more patient and understanding that this was a rebuilding year IF:

We were playing with the young players and taking these losses

We could see ANY sign of player development year over year. No player has gotten significantly better playing for CKG year over year, and several have played worse the longer they played for Gearlds.

Our offensive scheme looked competent instead of re-treading the Versyp set play 4 statues offense. You do not get your outside shooters open by having them stand in the same spot for an entire offensive possession.

There wasn't abudnent evidence that CKG doesn't have the ability to judge talent. "Collier is the best shooter I have ever seen" makes me believe she had her eyes closed for all the losses we took to Iowa and IU the last 3 years. "I have dreamed of having Amiyah as our point guard" stated after A. Reynolds has a stat line of 16mpg, 2.5 ppg, 2.2 apg, and shooting 38% from field and 28% from 3 pt range. The recruitment of Collier, both Petree's, and a couple other of her recruits that clearly do not belong on a P4 roster.

I am with you on being a big Sophie Swanson fan and I cannot see any reason at all for Collier playing ahead of her at this point other than CKG has not clue what it takes to win and to build a team for the future.

I have to agree with Michael here,

I don't think you pair Gordon and McCarthy together, both play the same position, and aren't quick enough to play the 4 spot. I don't think either is much of a long range shooter either, so you'll run into spacing issues on offense, and mismatches defensively against quicker 4's.

Not to mention ball screen coverage. I wonder if CKG took the drop coverage from Painter. I think in the men's games, the long 2 is a more forgotten art than in the womens game. Which makes me wonder why McCarthy is in that coverage, consistently leaving our defense at a disadvantage.

I'd imagine McCarthy just isn't quick enough so she has to sit back.

Speaking of quick enough, idk if Puryear will ever be to slide to the 4. So we might see a log jam at the 5 next year with McCarthy, Puryear, and Gordon.

Some truth to this…as I said, if money is available good players will come, maybe not the best of the best but a tier above what they’re getting now. I got no problems with adding Collier, she’s fine as a 8th/9th player used in a niche player role, no way she should be starting getting over 10 minutes a night though.

I agree with you on Puryear and I REALLY want to know what the coaches were planning when they recruited 3 big strong slow posts all within two years of each other. With the current portal rules, I very much doubt we keep all 3 of those players until their senior year, especially with the way players leave the program under Gearlds. Couple that with only 1 decent high school pf and recruited in 4 years and she only stayed one year and you have to wonder what the staff's collective recruiting philosophy and objectives are.

It will be interesting to see who plays with who. I still think they both will be on the court together more times than not.

Some of it will depend on who they bring in from the portal. They really need a couple shooters/scorers. A go to person. Something they haven't had for a while now.

Does anyone know if there is a Katie Gearlds Radio Show w/Tim Newton this year? I've looked for it but only find links to prior year shows.

Yeah good point, we've missed that go to person since Lasha left. Sure, she wasn't an all american, but she was able to get a bucket on her own here and there to release some pressure for our O. Sometimes a player like that could turn around a team. What does that 22' look like without her? Probably not 19-11.

CKG NEEDS that portal go to player next season.

I've seen links posted on Twitter before for the weekly shows.. I think they've been on Facebook as well?

I was hoping Swanson would be the person "to go to" as we moved forward this season. Not the case as she is just one of the mix. And the mix is not a cocktail. I tell myself to endure, endure, endure, and it will get better. But how long must this curse go on? Once proud.

I am not trying to be mean, but what have you seen in the last 3+ years that makes you think CKG can land a top tier transfer capable of carrying her lame offensive scheme and a collection of decent players that are none of them progressing into good college players?

Additionally, if you were that level of difference maker, why would you look at Purdue instead of say USCar, USCal, or some program capable of taking you to a final four?

As far as I am concerned Lasha was not an addition, yeah she could score, but it was one on one and threw the timing of the offense off for everyone else. She did not help us win any meaningful games. That's my 2 cents on her. Bass looks the same way to me.
