and get him the surgery he needs to work on getting back by the start of next fall. Recovery time can vary from 6 to 9 months typically. Allowing Bentley to play shows desperation and I believe some truth to the statement one poster made about Hazell being done if he doesn't win this weekend.

My initial reaction upon hearing this was of great disappointment with the team doctors and medical staff. Having given it more thought... is there such a thing as a "lite" tear or "slight" tear? I'm shocked that there is even a possibility he could continue to play this year. I just hope if he plays he doesn't get further hurt in a game if he's favoring it.

I'm not a doctor, so I don't know how common this is for players to tear an ACL and keep playing, or what - if any - further damage could occur. But I'd have to think the percentage of athletes who have this and continue playing without surgery is pretty low, right?

that would be shocking to still see him out there.

at times, I thought anthrop shouldn't have even been playing after seeing him slow to get up

i think Anthrop should be allowed to make his own call if he plays or not, but with Bentley having the fresh injury....he should be forced to shut it down and get better for 2016 and the rest of his career.

Someone with Bentleys best interest in mind needs to step in here, much like someone with anthrop's should have.

There is ZERO reason for him to risk further injury playing for this pathetic excuse of a football team, considering his long term NFL prospects. If he was a senior with no pro potential, then what the heck, give it a shot.

Marve played with a torn ACL and a huge knee brace a few years ago. With that said, shut Bentley down. And if DH coerces him onto the field, that should be grounds for termination.

I tried to google this to help educate myself a bit. Here is an excerpt from one site in particular I found (linked below). After reading this, I can't imagine the medical staff would even consider allowing him to play an option. As if Purdue starting to become known for ACL tears isn't bad enough, the last thing you want is to further that into a school being known for not properly safeguarding against future injuries by continuing to play athletes who need real treatment.

A small percentage of people will do well after an isolated ACL tear without surgical reconstruction. These individuals tend to be older and less active. They are not involved with activities or sports that involve pivoting or "cutting." Knee braces can help prevent instability episodes by "hobbling" the knee and assisting with sensory feedback. However, most active people will continue to have instability even with the most expensive custom knee brace.

Most people with a torn ACL will experience instability, a feeling that the knee gives way or feels loose. This instability commonly results in a reduction in activities, especially sports. More importantly, the instability will usually lead to additional damage to the knee if left untreated.
