That he doesn`t have to shoot every time the ball comes in to him. Just the open shot big guy!!

I know what you are talking about. He came into the game in 2nd half. Got the ball in post was double teamed. Should have passed out. Instead forced a hook shot that missed everything. Since the Butler game Haas has not played as well as he had earlier. Difference I noticed: When Hammons gets the ball into the post. He goes right at the basket and scores. Haas gets the ball into the post and he hesitates allowing the defense to setup around him.

I'd like to see both of our big men pass the ball more. While AJ is more talented offensively, he still forced up a couple bad looks last night when he was in poor position.

With defenses collapsing on them, it's going to expose a lot. Either they'll keep the ball and force something (or turn it over) or they can get it to a wide open guy.

didn't like Biggie hoisting 3 3's in the first half neither,

Ditto for Biggie and AJ, earlier in the year we were dishing it out to open shooters and they were hitting shots. I think it is that simple. Correctable issues

I'm fine if he shoots, he just needs to stop bringing the ball down and turning easy shots into contested shots. Someone needs to tell him he's 7'2".

I gotta think CMP is pounding that into his head.....when you're that big, you haven't had to think about it much until coming to Purdue....he'll get there in time I think. Maybe there's some "sleep" or other therapy where CMP can subliminally work in clips of Kevin McHale? Kinda like the old Columbo episode with Robert Culp.....

Hypnopaedia? It worked in Brave New World...

Isaac isn't athletic at all, I think he's missed more dunks this year than he's made. That's why I'm surprised you don't see his footowork developing more from working with AJ. His favorite move seems to be the fade away when he's going to have a size advantage over everyone he plays his entire life. I'd like to see him develop a little up and under step through that AJ has lived off of, since he's gonna be a below the basket guy type guy.

My problem with Haas' game is that, when defending the basket, he loves to bring his arms down onto a shooter instead of just going straight up with his hands and then looking for the location of the ball to get a hand on, like Hammons frequently does. It drives me crazy. He's 7'2" and he should always just go straight up.

Isaac and Caleb both have a lot of work to do. They are both going to be very good college players but right now they are both raw. We are very lucky that AJ came back for his senior year. My hope is that both CS and IH put in the work necessary now and during the summer and come back next year with improved games.

Before anybody jumps on me, I like both of them very much and can see potential in them. However, they both have a lot of improving to do to fill the void AJ will be leaving. I was glad to see CMP take Caleb out for some long stretches last night. He needs to find his place on this team and realize that jacking up 3's 10 seconds into the possession is not what this team needs. I'm confident he will figure it out, just hasn't done so yet.

I think both of them are very well liked, but let's be honest the "honeymoon" is over. A couple weeks ago, people were posting about them both being gone maybe after this year. Just a bit ahead of ourselves against the Incarnate Words of the world.

They both have a lot of potential, but also have a lot of things to work on. Both of them, by all accounts, are very hard workers and very coachable guys. It'll get there.

Some were over the top with their concern of IH and CS going pro. Hell, some even had VE going pro after this year! They all have the potential to be very good college players and with hard work they will get there. We need them to because the void AJ will be leaving is huge.

Haas was playing very well in the beginning, because he was getting his minutes. AJ is back and he needs his minutes. AJ should be averaging 28 minutes per game and Haas 18 minutes. Problem solved. BTW, to make the numbers work this also means that AJ and Haas should average 3 minutes together per half.

Haas was playing better in the beginning because he was feasting on small dudes on bad teams. He doesn't have the skill to do that against the caliber of teams we've played lately. He's grown a lot this year though and he'll keep working and getting better.

There's a reason we've gone from thread after thread about playing AJ and Isaac together to practically none. Unless we're playing an equally large team, you probably won't see it much.

Wisconsin had that Freshman who made two 3's and a 15 footer. AJ was caught between a rock and a hard place. If he goes out then the rim is unprotected and they need him to rebound. In the future, if any jump shooter gets hot, you put AJ on him for a short time. You have Haas guard a light shooter and Haas stays low to protect the rim, but he can come up if his man picks. Most jump shooters are in rhythm and are not thinking about driving to the lane for a couple of trips down the court. When they do, tell AJ to let them go and go low to defend a dump pass, as they run into Haas. This screws shooters up and gets them out of rhythm.

BTW, Haas has played well against some good large centers too. Haas is easily a top five Big Ten Center, maybe top 3.

There were several times, when AJ went outside to guard someone. I think twice the player drove around him and ran smack into a defender positioned low and the play was stuffed. This to me is simple. Why can't that player be Haas? Why can't we do it 3 minutes per half to disrupt the other team? Uthoff was hot in the first half, do you think this may have disrupted him to be guarded by AJ? Do you think he would have rethought his jump shot? Do you think he might have gotten frustrated dribbling past AJ into Haas? Maybe he would have adjusted very quickly, but still it would have had him changed his game. Caleb is playing well as the PF. However, don't you think AJ would be just as good. He can play the high post and get it down to Haas. He also had the pass of the night to Edwards out of the high post. We shot the 3's well tonight in the first half getting the ball down low and then passed out for the 3. Again I just think the extra minutes for our 2 best players are warranted.

I have been critical with Matt on one point and one point only. However, I want to sing his praise on others. I am very happy with the young men Matt has recruited. Other schools are going for the one and done philosophy and I think that stinks. What separates College Ball from the farm system of the NBA is the student athlete. I can assume and certainly will pray that this is the type of kid Matt is trying to recruit. The kids I watch on the court and talk afterwards all seem to reflect this attitude and I am very proud of them.

Next, I want to say how well Matt has developed these kids. They seem to get better every year. We have lost two games and the posts all seem to be gloom and doom. If you posters were Golden State Warrior fans would you be posting to break up the team?

The biggest laugh is the bashing of our PG's. Has anyone notice the offensive output of Wisconsin and Iowa's PG's. Gee, did they have awful offensive games due to luck??? Iowa lulled us to sleep by playing a soft 122, they then turned up the ratchet and we did not adapt. Stuff happens. I am glad this happened sooner rather than later. Our kids will learn from it and move on.

Hang in there, we will be fine!

Dude, did you just compare Koenig and Gessel to our PGs? Sheesh.

Gotta agree here. Not a knock against our guys, but I'd rather have Koenig or gessel all things being equal.

I don't think he's saying ours are better than theirs. I think he's pointing out that our PGs are being very productive in some areas, heavily on the defensive end. So it's not that they are just dead weight out there.

OK, I see the point he's trying to make. Unfortunately, any defensive abilities our PGs might have are so outweighed by our lack of poise and talent on the offensive side, that we are at a disadvantage at the position against any quality opponents. And there are virtually nothing but quality opponents left on our schedule (save Rutgers (( no really, somebody save Rutgers))). Painter gets paid very well to play to our strengths and hide our weaknesses. My gut says he'll figure this out, but he certainly has a challenge ahead of him.

Chuchu, IMO posters should only offer praise or constructive criticism. I am hoping and suggesting Matt gives more thought to playing the twin towers a few minutes per half. However, pointing out obvious flaws is called bitching. Have you ever played ball on a college or pro level. Iowa strategically turned up the juice after half time and Purdue did not adjust. There are many ways to beat a press and basketball is a team game. We choked and there are many professionals who choke. Such is life. If this happened before halftime and we did not adjust, then we have a problem. At this point, we should be happy that this was exposed, so we know how to defeat it down the road. If we cannot adjust, then maybe we should have others bring up the ball. The nightmare would be if their PG’s ran us ragged and scored at will.

If we passed to the post more often they would not have to shoot every time they get the ball...FEED THE POST without turning it over....

PREGAME REPORT*** Guard - Derrick Walton Jr. (6-1, 190, Jr.) One of the Big Ten's top point guards, Walton's also been one of its top shooters, making more than half his three this season. Purdue has to close out on him, then not let him just drive right past it and hit someone else for an open three. Tough cover.

POST GAME STATS - Walton was 3 for 9 with 1 assist and 0 steals for 12 pts in 33 minutes.
Hill & PJ were 6 of 9 with 4 dimes and 3 steals for 18 points in 38 minutes.

We may not have the best PG's in the conference, but they do their job well. Basketball is a team game. We broke the press well and we keep learning.

I am very proud of this team.

BTW, our centers were 10 of 15 for 24 points and I still think AJ can play some PF.

Our centers were 8 of 10 against Iowa. So the last 2 games, they are 18-25 (72%).

I don't want them to get up to shooting 25+ times a game, but most teams are not really capable of stopping them if they put themselves in a good position. We don't want to be the team that passes the ball around until it can feed the post, but I thought we were late in getting AJ going last night.
