Who Would You Hire?

I am not sure about all of those, but Helfrich, Wilson, and Chryst never had HC experience. However, the market conditions have changed, and coaches know that you can make more than that. Helfrich also has the backing of NIKE in everything they do at Oregon, and expect him to get a big raise when his contract is due. One of the complaints by IU fans is that Wilson and the staff are underpaid. He has issues, and fans shake their heads at some of his decisions, but there is concern that another school (in a Power 5 conference) will come calling with bigger money.

The Mark Helfrich one was more of a joke than anything.

And that's great for IU. Wilson is a coaching enigma - he's done a lot of great things there, but it's a tough place to win. That being said, I don't think we're worried about another school calling with bigger money with Hazell.

Whoever the new hire is, and unless we have a miracle, that new hire will be hired this offseason, I want someone who isn't going to subscribe to the loser belief that Purdue is at a recruiting disadvantage and that we need to do things 'differently'. I F'ing hate that mentality. Unfortunately, a lot of people here have it but it's BS.
The ONLY reason why PU might be tougher to recruit to than some other schools is because the head coach and asst coaches aren't doing a good enough job of making Purdue 'special'.
VaTech is actually a really good school Purdue should be emulating. Other than 'Enter Sandman', there's nothing special about VT other than Frank Beamer.

hey Big Red, I know Carey is a grad of IU, but you know what at least his team's play D, I might put him above Babers because BG seems to not play D and I'm tired of seeing other teams hang 40 to 50 points on us all the time. My top choice is still Mike Norvell and my phantasy choice would be Sean Payton saying good bye to the Pro's after this year and give a down trodden college program a shot.

IMO: Brock Spack would be an immediate upgrade. I think he could take Purdue to about the level that Jerry Kill has taken Minnesota, which isn't bad considering what we've been doing most of the past decade.

That said, I don't think Spack would dramatically change the culture at Purdue or reinvigorate the fan base.

Also, be careful about hiring a guy just because he's an offensive guru. People often talked about Mike Leach as a replacement for Danny Hope. He's struggled mightily at WSU.

Keep in mind the 3 coaches he interviewed and supposedly offered the job to are 8-1 right now before we overpaid for Hazell...not a supporter of him but it takes a lot of money to get a proven winner and he has never had that but this time it WILL cost a BIG bundle to get one!
You can spend $10 million and there is no guarantee of winning. Examples of Charlie Strong, Rich Rodrigues, Brady Hoke, Bret Bielma etc etc

I would take three of your four in a heartbeat and wouldn't have to spend 10 mil! They are proven winners and the two that are struggling will win more than we will this year!

Generally, you're going to get what you pay for. Not always, but there's a reason the top paid guys make what they do.
I don't want Spack, I think he's probably too indoctrinated into the belief that Purdue is tough to recruit to.
There definitely needs to be a cultural shift and someone the fan base believes in and is excited about. I think Hazell had that for a while, but his teams are so poor on the field, it's worn off.

There are no Western Kentucky or any other joke team go IU coming up. IU always building up hope as they flame out to a 1 win big season.

As for our next coach. I don't think asking Joe to come back is unrealistic. At least ask his input as he knows what Purdue needs to WIN!

Yes...No Western Kentucky. Maybe you ask Indiana State. Ask Joe T. Your message sound like typed by 2nd grader. Good work?! We build hope flame out 1 big season. I deem you classic PU graduate person based on U typing and grammar skills. Good wurk!!!

Come on, Indianascout1991 Are you freakin serious?

Indiana needed a dropped 2-pt conversion pass in the closing seconds to beat an FCS team (that this horrible Purdue squad housed last year).

Sure, 3-0 is 3-0. And, the Hoosiers have beaten Purdue two straight years (for the first time in 20 years). Fair enough.

But let's not pretend that this is some Hoosier juggernaut.

Not claiming Hoosier juggernaut. I have never seen that. If I had to, though, I would probably bet a lot of money that Indiana will beat Purdue again this year. I might also bet that Purdue won't win another game this year.

Good luck!

3-0 while playing 3 pud teams at home. IU almost lost to Southern Illinois (48-47), had a hard time with Florida International (36-22), and went down to the last minutes with Western Kentucky (38-35).

IU is 121 out of 127 FCS teams in total defense at 544 ypg, and 109 out of 127 in scoring defense at 34.7 ppg.

When you actually start playing real teams in league play, you're going to get smoked. Your defense is pathetic, but this is not news for the Loosiers. You guys are typically defense optional.

Rather. You should tell Morgan Burke to stop scheduling powerhouses like Marshall.
Marshall went 13-1 last season and won 11 games the year before. And they go to bowl games, something IU has done ONCE since 1993. Keep talking shit, you just make yourself sound increasingly moronic as you go along. But what should we expect from a Loosier?

What I do if I am athletic director for the day. I fire Hazel and Shoop and replace with Butch Davis and Weis. If they win 5 more games this year I give them a 5 year deal.

If the Eagles season continues to go South, with all the personnel moves Chip Kelly has made he might become available but it is only two weeks into the NFL season so he could turn it around!

You're making an ass of yourself. If IU had Purdue's schedule you would be 1-2 also.

Yes...thank goodness we don't face that murderer's row of Marshall, Indiana State and Virginia Tech. It's no wonder you guys have lost 22 of your last 27 games with that kind of lineup (granted, two of those losses were to Indiana, which is understandable).

Personally, I don't think that Purdue would have beaten WKU. Just an opinion, though.
If IU and Purdue were a combined university with the IU offense and the Purdue defense, it might be a pretty decent program.

Western Kentucky is no joke. At least we're agreed there is one team on the Big Ten schedule that IU should beat.

Philly sports radio has been great to listen to today. I still think it's early in the season and there are a lot of mediocre teams in the NFL , so we'll see and BTW, I'm not an Eagle fan.

You are a moron. Virginia Tech is better than Wake Forest. Bowling Green is better than Florida International. I'll give you that Southern Illinois is better than Indiana State. Marshall is about equal with Western KY I believe. BGSU beat you guys last year after your miracle win vs. Mizzou. You guys do have a pud schedule.

IU is historically the worst program in the BIG, hands down. There is no denying this. Also, IU has been to 1 bowl game since 1993. Purdue has been to 12 since 1993. Purdue has been to 12 since 1997 as well.

Let's get serious and leave Tiller out of the equation! Would you go after a proven Offensive Passing Head Coach, a Defensive Guru, one with ties with Purdue or one completely out of the box? Looking at 3 to 4 mil to get a proven good one!

Personal thoughts: I'd like to see what Nick Saban could do with this current roster. Forget about ties to national championships, boosters, all that miscellaneous junk. Could Nick Saban take this current roster and go 0.500 for the season?

Mike Norvell

It doesn't matter who we hire until Burke is gone and the athletic department as whole goes through a complete overhaul.

Simply put: yes
