it looks like the roster is listed by academic year and not by eligibility....

Would anyone do me a favor and either list the players departing, or at least the headline acts...

QB: None expected but currently have 9 on roster with one coming in. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a position switch from one of these guys.
RB: Lane Beeler (local kid who was a salmon)
WR: Phillips and Mahoungou
TE: None
OL: Steinmetz

DT: None
DE: Robinson, Miles, Larkin
LB: McCollum, Bentley, Hudson, Danny E
CB: Hunte, Hardy, Johnson (special teamer), Okonye
S: CJ Parker (limited action)

Ok but here’s my question ... first thank you I appreciate it. Second Robinson has “3V” next to his name. He’s still out of eligibility?

Offense has a chance to be real good next season if they can get one or two guys to evolve in to consistent threats down the field. Might be Catlett, Zico, Burgess, or another freshman...but if they can get that, the offense could be pretty potent with what appears to be a solid QB, a stable of RB’s, three very good TE’s, and hopefully an OL that’ll make another jump next year with only losing Steinmetz.

Mahoungu only came on late and I really was never impressed with Phillips. He’s probably a great kid, but he had a slot/smaller receiver body, but ran as slow as a guy who is 6’5” 230....

I don’t think results coaches like Brohm are an accident ... I’ll give you an example...

I’m an expert chess player and I took over as a parent volunteer coach for a school in the southwest burbs of Chicago that used to get ran over annually at state (89th out of 142 the year before I got involved). And people keep wondering how the school is now seeming to find good players out of nowhere every year... how freshmen who look like they can’t play in September are suddenly dangerous players by February. It’s cause I know chess and if s few kids out of the newcoming masses apply themselves.. bingo, we can get results...

Moral of the story... I wouldn’t be surprised if we are talking about how Brohm and company have several roster players who did not start this year AND/OR incoming freshmen and jucos playing above their experience level... if that Texas commit comes here and looks like a young Dorien Bryant will I be shocked? No.

And it may not be him... it may be Zico or someone else. But I just feel like this guy is gonna roll the roster a little smoother than an outside observer might think...

Great story. Everybody needs a hobby. I'm an expert beer drinker and I often go down to a local bar and give the young guys a few pointers regarding mastery of the craft. Builds good community relations.

Parker could redshirt but I doubt he returns

There 13ish scholarship seniors by my count. We have 23 commits and they are chasing more. I’m guessing there will be an exodus

Could be a number of walkons with schollies as well. I would venture to say at least 1 QB of the 5 or 6 on scholarship won’t be back next season (likely Banks).

I keep a sheet of what is on Schollie and who isn’t. They will need a lot of players to leave

I wonder if there are lots of guys from hazell’s last full class that’ll be told they are being shown the door but that the staff will help them find a place to land. Likely need 15 to leave, correct? Does that include Holmes already?

15 is about right.

Holmes?

If you look at the current roster its easy to find 10 more candidates to leave. I'm sure Brohm knew some of these kids wouldn't contibute but he couldn't risk having no practice bodies.

Brian Langford Johnson will probably leave. Jacob wegher will probably be cut and heck I wouldn't be surprised if Griffin Alstott will transfer or get cut unless Brohm moves him to a different position

I don’t see anyway in hell Alstott is cut. Not with who his dad is and what he means to the program.

Position move is a possibility

Fwiw my count has us only +6 over for 2018 with 23 recruits (68+23=91). Remember there were a couple of unfilled schollies this year plus Colmery and Holmes. 13 departing SR + 4 carry-over = 17 open schollies. I have Banks, Blackmon, Thieneman, Burgess, and Swingler as walk-ons. Not sure if those are entirely correct.

Swingler was put on scholarship at the beginning of the year

I am keeping both those guys on scholarship.

Depends on who can be added to the roster. Theinemann would get it first. However, if a grad transfer can be added to start it's going to be interesting as more instant impact players are needed.

Lane Beeler is a walkon who went to McCutcheon. CJ Parker his a Juco who played in all 12 games and was a starter for 5 games as a Junior and the reason he had "limited action" this year was cause he tore his ACL during training camp.

I didn’t mean for it to sound that way.. since reaching expert in Chess isn’t even considered a huge deal to Chess people. It would be like playing a couple years of minor league baseball... or barely getting your money back in the World Series of poker..
