Who follows either? Jordan came out swinging at the "Purdue sucks" remarks of our fan base. Rightly so. We need to keep things in perspective that this is a rebuild from the last three years and major component that was recruited to help step in for Edey is out.

The new coaches poll is not out yet,but looking at rankings we have played the hardest schedule in the country. We are 1-0 at home, 0-2 at neutral, and 0-1 away, against four teams in the top 15 (possibly top ten today). The PSU game will not be considered a bad loss. We also have to keep in mind the target we have on our backs. We dominated teams for three straight years. Beating Purdue is a bragging point.

We will be somewhere in the 20-21 win category, taking our hits at away games. Does Purdue suck? Hell no. If anything this might be the team that peaks in March and not February.

Today's Kool-ade is cherry with vodka... :)

We don’t suck but we aren’t playing up to our potential. Cam and Myles have to get involved downhill and attacking - can’t have games where they give us 0 points.

Need more minutes from Cox and he has to go hunting for his shots.

I don’t want to see Furst on the floor until senior night or mop up duty.

I want Painter to give minutes to Waddell. At this point, why not. You kept him on scholarship and didn’t go to the portal. At least use him.

You know what is hysterical, is the ones saying "we suck" are likely the same ones that have said "games in December don't matter!" when we were on a roll.

The fact is we are neither elite nor do we suck. We are in a rebuilding year and still (currently) ranked in the top 25. We are no doubt going to take lumps and that is okay as doing so this year only helps us going forward as some of the young players evolve and come back from injury.

But .. this fanbase is filled with a whole lotta Engineers and Lord knows Engineers over think things.... all the time :)

1. No, we don't suck

2. Yes, we are a flawed team that had same said flaws covered up by Jones and Edey last year.

3. Yes, we do play to win games against Auburn in December. I don't care what Kramer says, we play to win them all and they are all important come March. End of the world? No. But don't pretend like games in December aren't important.

4. Yes, all of the teams' goals are still in front of them. However, lose too many more games and the ultimate goal will be much harder to accomplish.

The people that are saying PU sucks are probably the ones that think Painter has run his course with us. We live in an instant gratification society, especially on social media.

We knew that this was going to be a young team, and it was going to take time for us to gel. I don't see this team gelling until late January. The biggest concerns for this time right now is perimeter defense (but this was a problem last year), rebounding outside of TKR, FT shooting (especially TKR with all of the attempts he is going to get), and the inconsistence of scoring outside of TKR and Smith. People talking about Colvin and Heide all of time needing to step up, and they need to for sure, but Loyer doesn't seem to get mentioned as much. Loyer, with his shooting ability, should be lighting it up every game, but that has not happened.

We will get there. The sky has not fallen.

my take on Loyer , at the beginning of the year I thought he turned the corner and would be more consistent but he seems to be reverting back to the 2 previous yrs where he has a tendency to disappear in games

Would you expect this team to be playing up to their potential at this point? I’ve come to the conclusion that I went into the season with unrealistic expectations around how long quickly this team could reach it’s potential.

Totally agree on Furst, but I feel like I'm in the minority here. He's had 4 years to improve his game, but by all accounts he's the same player he was as a freshman. By now he should be in full-blown Steve Sheffler mode pushing 245lbs, but apparently he couldn't find the weight room. AFAIC the Caleb Furst experiment should be over. Give the younger guys some PT...yes, even Berg.

I thought someone out of Furst, Berg or Brugess would be able to step up. It hasn’t happened. Tkr would be more effective as a 4 and Heide would be more effective coming off the bench as a role player.

Before he came to Purdue many said Myles was an nba prospect. He’s sure not a one and done. And he’s not going to be a 2 and done either.

Many said Harris was going to be awesome . He looks like a normal freshman with freshman inconsistency.

I have no idea why Burgess is having stamina issues!

Catchings would have been an awesome help. The problem with Catchings is he decommitted too late in the year to be able to use his scholarship on any player in the portal. The good ones were already taken.

I’m quite certain if Catchings had decommited earlier, painter would have found someone in the portal at the wing or big. Or he may have recruited another BIG instead of Cox.

Painter signed Cox because he was recruiting the guy he was playing against.

We’re not a bad team. But many fans here always have too high of expectations. Braden will probably not be an All American. And Purdue will not be a final 4 team.

Enjoy what we had last year. Look for a 20 win season And maybe a sweet 16. Most fans would be happy with that type of result!

I think everyone thought Myles and Cam would contribute more than they have so far and those two would be enough. I thought Caleb might be better up and down and being his senior year surprise us and yes I think most of us thought Berg would be more ready than he is. We thought the freshmen guards would allow some rest and help with ball handing as needed, but that has been pretty typical for many freshmen. Had only Myles and Cam contributed as many thought, Purdue would be much farther ahead and those losses may not have happened...certainly the first three would unlikely be three loses.

Obviously we don't suck. It's still a top half conference team and a tourney team.

Losing Edey definitely exposed every last weak point though. Players like Loyer, Smith, and really almost everyone benefitted from the attention he drew and he covered up our defensive liabilities as well.

It means we need IMO to add some more dynamic creativity to the offense and a little more size and quickness to the defense. We are a bit slow and predictable right now and good defensive teams counter that and we seem to struggle with a response other than do what we do but better, which is a limited response right now.

It's why I and others pushed back on those who thought we didn't need the portal. There's a lot of good pieces here, but it's not quite a full build.

Put another way, Edey was the Dude's rug, they both really tied the room together. Without, it's a bit of a struggle.

Straw man. There is no large group of people saying Purdue sucks. I can’t find one post. Discussing shortcomings yes. Discussing who needs to improve for Purdue to have some success in the league and the tournament yes. Talk about hitting the portal to fulfill needs to go really far next year yes. Discussing the types of teams that bother Purdue most, yes. All good.

There's a cottage industry of some fans proving they are better and more loyal fans than other fans and overreacting to any criticism at all or silly criticism from a handful of people

Saw Catchings play 2 or 3 times early in the season, but never saw anything from him that led me to believe he would be getting mins here. Plays just like Colvin did last year (stand around perimeter and look for an open 3 the entire game) and zero defense. I see absolutely no way that he could play the 4.

I think Furst decided long ago that basketball was not his future and is doing "just enough" to get by until he gets his degree .. and that is okay really. Yeah I know that impacts the team as a whole, but long term it likely is what is best for him. He still puts in an effort it would seem, just not enough to improve his basketball skills.

Is what it is at this point. But I agree, we have a weakish schedule coming up so play other people and build for next year and take our lumps this year.. but we grow as a team. Long term > short term.

We were already over scholarships by 1 with catchings. Once he decommitted we were right at 13. So, in regards to going to the portal, t didn’t matter when he decommitted since we didn’t have a spot.

We should have at least 2 new guys also. If not, they might smoke is again the way they recruit.
At least two. I would probably be inclined to keep Braden and maybe a few of the younger guys if they're willing to come off the bench and replace everyone else with players from the portal.

True, but it hasn’t been every game. They have both had some excellent games. Most players struggle with inconsistency when they step into a major role. Look at Loyer last season. Even Ivey and Carsen Edwards had their ups and downs. Development often doesn’t appear linear and games like the Auburn can be an important learning experience. Heide and Colvin are both very talented players and I expect to see them emerge as the season goes on.

I wouldn't go that far. I think our big 3 plus a 4-5 big guy, and a 6-4 to 6-6 guy that can get to the hole and providing length and athleticism would work.

Ideally DJ can go a whole year next year. Him, and 2 new guys make this a different team with more needed options.

I like keeping Cox and Harris as I think by their Jr-Sr year they will be difference makers on this team. Burgess??

I know that this is the reality of the new portal world, but when Purdue basketball starts doing this like almost everyone else, I think my interest will wane significantly as a fan. Still will love the school (of course) and may take a quick look each year on how things are going, but I just have no interest in following my school's minor league professional sports teams which turn over 50+% of their players each year.

Heide and Colvin are a huge disappointment as is Furst. After seeing their faults last year, and discussing those with a few on here, they haven't progressed the way I thought they had the first of the season. I also thought Berg would replace Edey and would be a huge contributor this year, but it's not occurred, and TKR needs to lead by example.

Maybe its time to put the bench guys in and see if they play better as a unit.

I am going to double down and say that if Painter can keep the roster together, Purdue is a year away from a special season. Auburn was rough, but so was FDU a few years back. This is not a finished product.

If you go all in on the portal you are going to have to overspend precious resources and you are going to lose players and effectively rebuild. Now if Painter can supplement the roster with a Lance Jones type transfer, I have no issue with that.

true each has up and downs, but would rather see that variation with more attempts because I believe there are MORE good looks than they take and so inside that variation I would like to see a larger number of attempts because I don't believe the variation is solely on how they are defended,

I think most on here are saying just that. There are a few that think we need 3-4 transfers, but I think the majority are looking for 1-2 impact transfers added to our current compliment. Of course, if we lose some guys to the portal, that is a different discussion.

Basketball, while still being important to him, is unlikely the main focus of his life. Getting in to medical school is no easy chore.
