I checked different times this afternoon. Was waiting patiently, ha ha. Very good get for Matt Painter. Now Purdue has a true point guard coming in next season.

I love the pick up as much as anyone but Nojel is not a true point guard.

From the videos I've seen of him he looks very capable of playing point guard similar to Barlow. Although in Painter's system there really isn't a big difference between a 1 and 2 guard anyway.

I'm not in here to force my opinion on people.

Nojel IMO isn't a true point guard he seems more like a watered down Evan Turner. I mean that in a complementary way.

However, I agree that in Painters offense he will fit perfectly. We don't use PGs in the traditional way.

I do at some point hope to get a true and talented PG. I believe it would take our team to a whole different level.

Having Nojel is a perfect way to subdue the negative effects of not having a good PG.

He's a 6'6" player that can handle the ball very well and can finish at the rim. I don't know what a "true point guard" is but I like those abilities in my guards.

I just mean I would be surprised if CMP doesn't have PJ or another guard on the court with him. I could be wrong though.

Add in that he appears to have decent range, can get his own shot if needed, and defend. His HS administration also raved about his character.....looks like he'll fit right in with the rest of his teammates. It's a great opportunity for him....looking forward to seeing if he can make the most of it.

Good work from CMP, CBB, and the rest of the staff.

I agree there will be another guard on the floor. Could be one of many: DM, PJ, CE, RC....I just don't understand what you mean when you say you hope we get a true point guard to take us to the next level?? I don't know what your definition is of a true point guard and why do we need one?

I'm probably dreaming but I just want someone like Frank Mason III ha. I don't mean it as a negative I just have seen him listed at different positions and just figured CMP wouldn't have him as our primary ball handler.

can you imagine a backcourt with Eastern and C. Edwards? That would be great. C. Edwards is more of a scorer so I imagine him more at the 2 spot. Don't know tons about Eastern but thought he would mainly be at the one?

Yeah, and they could switch on D if needed, say if the other teams PG is too quick for Nojel to stay with.

I haven't seen a lot of Eastern, other than a few clips. What are the comps? Poor mans Evan Turner? Steve Bardo? Kelsey Barlow?

Based on what I saw I was thinking Evan Turner. I haven't seen enough be for sure though. Nojel seems like a fluid athlete but idk if he could stay in front of quick guards. Just my take but he definitely is not as athletic as Barlow. Bardo was before my time.

For motion offense I see no issue with Eastern as the point. He and Edwards can play 1 and 2 together and be truly interchangeable through each possession. I see no reason why we have to have a "true" point (assuming that by "true" you mean a point who has the ball in his hands 90% of the time and runs set plays and high ball screens all night long).
I do think that an Aaron Craft like point would be a hell of a good fit.
I am exited to see this combination in action.

I really like him I just wonder if Painter will play him primarily at point? More of a question than a statement.

we are and have been in an era at Purdue were the big man rules (Hammons, Haas, Swanigan), will things change some now that Purdue has some talented guards? Instead of always going through the big man will they now try to create play for the guards?
