Which bowl does Purdue go to?

What about UW? you're counting that game as a win?
Whisky just isn’t that good this season. Hornibrook has taken a step back this season and their OL just isn’t as dominating. Honestly, of the games after OSU...I thought the teams Purdue faces were ranked as such:

1. Iowa
2. MSU
3. IU
4. Whisky
5. Minny

Whisky’s best win is against Iowa when Iowa absolutely crapped the bed in the last 7 minutes of the game. They have beaten WKU, New Mexico, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Rutgers. To compare, IU has beaten: FIU, UVA, Ball State, and Rutgers but only lost big against Iowa. If IU had Whisky’s schedule, they’d be probably around the same W’s and L’s potentially.

switch 3 and 4, and we're in agreement.

38-31. Minny woukd have really controlled the game but lost their star RB to a right leg injury after he came back from another knee injury (and also a potential arrest issues).
What’s Minny’s star running back’s name, and will he play against us? Is he back from injury?

NW may lose only one more game. They would have to lose two.
I’m still working through the tiebreaker scenarios, but there might be a way Purdue wins a three way tie in the West with Northwestern and Iowa. I think we might want Iowa to win out.

Iowa has 3 conference losses now. NW has one and Purdue and Wisconsin have 2. NW plays Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois.

If Purdue wins out, we would need Iowa and someone else to beat NW to win the West. I do not know how a 4-way 3-loss scenario works.

Yep. My bad. No more late night posting for me! Forgot Iowa had three losses already. The only way there’s a three or four way tie is if NW loses two more games.

I don’t know about bowl, but I want to see us play in the BT Championship game.

Northwestern was @Iowa, @Minny and Illinois at home. It’s extremely unlikely they drop two. One? Sure. Northwestern almost lost to Rutgers and Nebraska. I am guessing Iowa will beat them and then just hope for Illinois and Minnesota to play their best game of the season. Purdue has to play @Minny, Wisconsin at home, and @IU. Wisconsin has had a down year. The possibility that Purdue wins out is higher than the possibility that Northwestern stumbles down the stretch and drops 2. It would be cool to play in s Big Ten championship, it’s just incredibly unlikely at this time.

I think Purdue should wind up with a decent bowl game against a good opponent.

Michigan probably will win out, as much as it pains me to say it. OSU has looked awful the last two weeks. They have some time to fix some issues, but Purdue dominated them and Nebraska gave them a real scare. Don’t get me wrong, I want Michigan to lose out so I can enjoy the meltdown.

@ Iowa

@ Minnesota

Illinois

Doesn't look likely unless the Gophers patch up the boat. Northwestern has the division tie-breakers on Wisconsin and Purdue.....that opening game loss looks like the difference, but the Michigan State game pretty much realistically put the division out of reach for the Boilers. Purdue would also need to defeat Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Indiana.

IF Purdue finishes 8-4, and that's still a big IF.....with the way they started the season, that would be one heck of an accomplishment in my view.

Did Lovie find something or is PJ’s rowboat just that far sunk? Illini had their way with the Gophers yesterday. Hate to count on Illinois for anything, but if they win one of their next two, they’ll be facing Northwestern with bowl elegibility in the line.

PJ's rowboat has sprung some very large leaks. He's now 3-12 in BIG games over two seasons so far and 9-12 overall. I don't think Minnesota or Illinois will win another game between them this year.

And this is why opening with a conference opponent is stupid. AD should reject it in the future!

If Purdue beats Wisconsin and NW loses to Iowa and Illinois (rivalry game and potential bowl qualifier for Illinois if they beat Nebraska next week) then there is a 3-way tie. NW beat Purdue, Wisconsin beat NW and Purdue beat Wisconsin. Each is 1-1 against those tied. I do not know how the tie-breaker would work.

I was encouraged that Purdue can beat the Badgers as they struggled yesterday in the first half against Rutgers at Madison. If Purdue can keep the Wisky backs from running wild, they have a chance.

If NW loses twice and Purdue wins out there is no tie. We would win it outright.

I've been saying this since the schedule was announced, conference games are so important, why start the season w/ all the rust vs a conference foe and that goes for both teams too, not saying this because we lost that game.

Wisconsin and Purdue are both 4-2 in conference, Arc. I think under the scenario you pose, Purdue would win the division @ 7-2 with NW and Wisconsin @ 6-3 (assuming those three teams win all of their other remaining games; Wisconsin plays @ Penn State and Purdue and hosts Minnesota). Iowa already has three losses....they could end up 6-3 as well (they have NW, @ ILL , and Nebraska left).

Here are the tie-breaker rules according to the Big Ten conference website:

"The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 8 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step (or sub-step), the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative. If three or more teams remain tied after any step, move to next step in tiebreaker with remaining tied teams.

1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.

2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.

3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).

(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.

5. The best cumulative conference winning percentage of non-divisional opponents.

(a) Example: East 1 non-divisional opponents are 20-7, East 2 non-divisional opponents are 19-8, East 3 non-divisional opponents are 14-13 - East 1 would be the representative.

6. The records of the three teams will be compared against the highest placed non-divisional teams in their division order of finish (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7).

(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

(b) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the record will prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e. 1-0 is better than 0-0, 2-0 is better than 1-0, etc.)

7. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.

8. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

I love to see Purdue go to the BT championship game but this is not the season. Purdue should win 2 or 3 more games this season and should go to a nice bowl game.
