Tried hard to stay positive and keep giving this team the benefit of the doubt once the season started. Still don't agree with the timing of this firing but now that it's officially over, the Hazell era was probably the worst in Purdue history. Can anyone find some people that were arguably worse from Big Ten history?

Northwestern was bad pretty much every season from 1972 through 1994, so all of the coaches listed on the page (scroll down) from that time period are comparable (other than Gary Barnett): http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/northwestern/index.html

Don Morton had a putrid three seasons for Wisconsin in the late 1980's (1987-1989). Also, remember Cam Cameron at IU? I don't think they won too many games in his four seasons (1997-2000) as HC, despite having Antwaan Randle-El for three of those seasons.

As far as Purdue goes, I do believe that Darrell Hazell is probably the worst HC at Purdue (narrowly beating out the Fred Akers era) since the onset of 11-game seasons in the early 1970's: http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/purdue/

Rivals the Dennis Green era at Northwestern, which most consider the worst in modern conference history.
What? You mean the years prior to Green when the school went 1-33-1 before he got there. "Green was named the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, as chosen by writers and broadcasters, in 1982 at Northwestern". Wikipedia He may not have won a lot, but still much better then the previous coach.. Which was Rick Venturi.
1978

1978 Northwestern 0–10–1 10th
1979 Northwestern 1–10 10th
1980 Northwestern 0–11 10th

I had posted something a few months back on that.......but yeah, I lumped that all together off the top of my head.......should have just written NW of the 70's....thanks for the clarification, topurdue.

Regardless, the Boilers have been "historically" bad the last several years, unfortunately.

And they had top 10 Purdue on the ropes at Ross-Ade in '79. Actually took the lead in 2nd half before we pulled one out!

Who cares? It's over. No more Hazzell talk. Put it in the rear view and move forward.

Iowa Frank X Lauterbuer was bad coming out of Toledo and the MAC. At Iowa from 1971 to 1973, dimissed after 0-11 season.
