When will something be done to fix the portal?

It was great before NIL fully mobilized. The schools couldn’t stop NIL after the court decision. Allowing a 1 time transfer without sitting out was on purpose. So that the schools who always cheated could buy players right off of other teams.
A one time transfer to me is Ok. It’s fine. It allows most of what’s going on. It’s the guys sliding from one team to the next and paycheck to paycheck that need to be curtailed.

But how do you prevent an individual paying a certain player to go to a certain school? Especially if the school isn't involved in any of that deal between a player and booster.
You KNOW there are guys out there that aren't rich enough to afford a pro team but are rich enough to "buy" players for specific schools. Those types are short stroking it all over the place as the opportunity for them to control something in sports has finally arrived.

We’re at 67 and counting. And 1 Drew Allar injury away from my scenario occurring.
Anyone of value could have already sat a bowl game out if they wanted to. Portal doesn't change that was already a thing.

Players don't get freedom only when it doesn't matter to fans.

You’re not getting it. It’s about TV RATINGS. Aka MONEY.

Just heard ....we are losing our remaining 5 starters in women's volleyball for next yr...all hitting the portal ...I know it's not a football topic...but I enjoy all our sports and women's volleyball was always a top 20 staple program....damn Nil and portal just killing sports
People paying big bucks for transfers in a non revenue sport is crazy!

Which will overall be gangbusters even if it happens every once in awhile in one playoff game there's a blowout which is already going to happen anyways.

ND is probably blowing out IU but if IU gets past them, they probably get blown out in the next game.

Won't matter to overall ratings.

Just the fact that these two d*ckless teams are in the playoffs is enough reason for me to turn the tv off

Biggest issue with NCAA is that they don’t see these issues coming. Ever.

Then they take 10+ years to clean it up
Well said!! Seems ever since this whole portal thing started, 4-5 years ago, one unintended consequence after another has commenced. First the unforeseen flooding of the portal market, followed by not enough open slots for guys in the portal. Then guys opting out in season, some who are often in their team’s rotation, to save a RS year. Now guys, like the PSU back-up qb, whose team’s are in the playoff, have to get out of dodge to not be left without a spot.

People have been opting out of bowl games for years now, college football does just fine.
In the crap bowls yes...not the ones mainly in the college playoffs...TV ratings in past few years have been garbage as well as fan support in most bowls due to players opting out for portal and NFL combines..hence the Purdue - LSU game and score.

No, bowl game ratings haven’t been “fine”.

The networks are expecting “blockbuster”, not “fine” TV ratings for CFP. If they don’t get that, they will force change... I.e tying payments to playing the entire season.

I mean that score would have been a blowout either way, just a smaller one.

The ratings for the final four aren't going to tank because a couple of players say out.

I get people want them to because they hate the changes, but it's not going to happen. Not in any meaningful way

General college football ratings have been more than fine, they've been historic in some cases this season over the past 15 years.

I'm sure college bowl ratings as a whole may not have been enough pre playoffs because not enough people cared about the Crest Toothpaste Plaque Bowl between two 6-6 teams to begin with.

Thus the college football playoffs. And now the expanded playoffs which will draw plenty of eyeballs.

As seen above, the last college playoffs had very good ratings.

These will have even better. And the final four teams will have mega ratings EVEN if a handful of players don't play, because they are packed with talent. And even if there are blowouts, they happen, like 22-23 game that was an insane blowout. Didn't affect the next championship rating at all, they increased from 17 million to 25 million. And 17 million is really good even in a blowout since the average bowl game viewership across all bowls last season was about 4.5 million. 17 million would be second in ratings just behind Sunday Night football.

You can believe it's all about to collapse because a few college kids sit out, but it's not.
