I think DH is now looking at a pink slip with another 2-3 win season.
If he goes ahead an makes a QB change now, what's the worst that can happen?
My reasoning; I don't think AA is going to win us any games that we shouldn't win but I do think he could lose a couple, like today.
I like AA as a competitor, etc, but I just don't think he'll ever be an effective QB at this level. He just doesn't have 'it'.
Maybe a lot of it's on Shoop (fire him now as well), but AA isn't the answer and at least if they only win 2-3, DH could argue that they went with a freshman QB in order to build for the future.
Man, I'm so disappointed this morning to know PU could be another laughing stock team that almost every Big10 team is already marking down as a W.

Unfortunately, the worst has already happened and it looks like it will continue, meaning 2 or 3 win seasons for the next millennium unless there is a complete shake-up in the
athletic department!

At some point, Purdue has to stick with a quarterback long enough to let him develop. IIRC, 2009 was the last season Purdue played an entire season with one quarterback.

An offense needs continuity. Musical quarterbacks has limited the offense's development for 5 years.

This mess is never going to get fixed until Morgan Burke is gone. Believe it really doesn't matter how bad Shoop is because DH and MB are not gonna run anybody off as long as the price is right.

I thought Appleby was the answer??? This board clamored for him over Etling, got him, and now you say, he isn't the answer???? At some point, you have to give a kid a chance to develop, and if you think that the QB is the only problem with this team or offense, then you are not being realistic.

We gave him the chance to develop. He's a junior. He's had all of last season and all offseason. And there's been no development. He's not the kind of guy that is going to win a game. He's not a natural passer. And Eliting just wasn't good enough. I watched all the big ten games this week. Every single big ten team had a QB that looked far superior to Apple. All all levels freshman through senior. There is a huge gap between his ability and even Marshal's Qb. Mistakes happen. But unfortunately what we witnessed yesterday was not mistakes but a sheer lack of talent. Eliting deserved to be replaced. Appleby deserves to be replaced. Its the normal progression if things and its simply what needs done now.

1 win and 7 losses
Cut bait and move on
AA is not a Read Option, Pocket Passer BIG QB
Stares down 1st read and does not have skill to go to 2nd read or read D
Bad execution from an experienced QB w 2 seasons in same offense
Next

What ever happened to a 5-7 step drop, sit in the pocket, let your recievers get open, and get them the ball? If our QB doesn't have the skills to do that, what the hell are we doing?
This 3 step and hit the 5 yard out offense, especially on 3rd and 7, is crap.

I have to agree with both sides on this. Play calling was terrible Saturday. Throwing on 3rd and 2 when we had them on their heels. But the QB play wasn't any better. At the Big10 level u cannot look and stare down one receiver. Our running game was solid and IMO is what we should be using as our bread and butter until Sindelar is ready. I feel the team looked much better than previous 2 yrs under Hazell. I'm still drinking the kool-aid.

This is the same thing that was said last year in favor of AA and it didn't get us anywhere. When you have an inept OC, the qb is going to struggle.
BB normally, I agree with you, in this case we don't match up completely. The inept OC is the responsibility of the Head Coach. The HC has been and is always going to be responsible for the team / QB / receivers / RB performance. Whether the OC went conservative or not, DH is the Root Cause, he hires, he fires, he makes practice plans, he sets the tone and policy for the football team. He builds or approves of the game plan.
Complaining about the OC conservative play calls is like complaining the how badly a car is changing lanes in traffic.... Its the driver dude, not the car. The same with OC and Head coach.

You're right in that the person making the decisions at the end of the day is Hazell.

The QB subject is typically one that bothers me. The first thing people always want is a new QB. If we stuck in either of the 2 others - I can only suspect from what the coaches have seen in practice - that they aren't ready. I think the coaches would love to start a young guy that people can get excited about - if they can be successful in doing so. I think the Etling redshirt pull was a horrible decision and ruined him. But there was a ton of pressure from fans to put him in.

I think if the coaches saw something they really liked in one of the 2 younger guys - they probably would have gone with them. We didn't need someone to explain to us that Appleby isn't a wonderful, accurate pocket passer - that wasn't going to change overnight.

But people posting that they want Sindelar to start now - the guy isn't even the backup, do they know that? He's listed 3rd on the depth chart. So I'm not sure why a true freshman 3rd on the depth chart would suddenly jump up to starting QB. I haven't seen either of the 2 younger guys myself - so I can't make that call. But some people seem to have rather unrealistic opinions.

Yeah the kid might do better if he was running an offense that was tailored to his strengths rather than his deficits. If your given a loaf of bread and pile of dog poo all your gonna make is a turd sammich. Instead of asking what happened we should ask WHY it happened. Who put the kid in that position? Shoop/Hazell Who is the QB coach? Shoopy, 'nuff said. Ok kid it's 3rd n 10 I want you to throw a 5 yr pass? Yes I know our RAC lately is not 5 yrds but throw it anyway? Jim Chaney never did that crap to his kids.

I would gladly donate a Silver Platter if someone could deliver MB's head to it.

The offense has been quoted by Hazell as taking a couple years to learn. It baffles me that you'd do something this complex when you have no depth, but ok. They're not building a program around their personnel - they're trying to fit round pieces into a square shape.

Personally, I'd replace Shoop immediately with a coach that opens up the playbook, focuses on our strengths (running) and utilizes a passing game heavy on the play action pass. Forget the WR bubble screens and utilize the TE's and RB's as safety valves more in the passing game when things don't open up downfield. If Appleby doesn't look a lot better in that type of offense, then next man up!
