I watched the TV, so I could not trust my observations on the crowd, but they seemed pretty classy compared to other games I've seen. No boistrous fans running at the players. No obnoxious shout-outs from the stands. No controversial off court actions by any of the players. I had expected an accrimonious atmosphere, and lots of stories about how people were acting badly. Didn't happen???
They seemed loud to me (TV as well). After a big play, you could hear the crowd roar and then ESPN would go to more of a full court camera view and you could hear the sound change, get a bit quieter. I don't know if that was intentional so we could hear the analysts or what, but they seemed pretty pumped. The players did too, at least the home team.
Yea the players were into it. It was their Super Bowl.
You're probably right, beating a middle of the pack team is always more important than beating the team you're fighting with for first place in the league.
this is obviously coming from someone that wasn't thereIs that the reason the crowd was really flat?

In fairness, the OP asked a question about the IU crowd at a game in Bloomington... if he was truly looking for people with input (i.e. people that attended), most of those people would be IU fans as I doubt Purdue people made up more than about 600-700 of the 15k crowd. Ergo, it's likely to generate a response from some IU fans. What are you even doing over here!! Every time I post anything on your site I always get that most original "moo" from you....And the reference to Super Bowl game came from a Hoosier several years ago....so was a play on words....Go back to where you belong if you can only come over when you win instead of to discuss basketball....or if you don't come often enough to catch on....duh!

Dakich has talked in the past how ESPN tunes down the crowd noise to better hear the announcers. He says they are doing this more and more. I'm guessing they did this Saturday night as well.Seemed pretty dead for a rivalry game on a Saturday night.

I've noticed this for a lot of games recently, and don't really care for it. I never had a problem hearing the announcers before.
Hopefully none of the Purdue folks behind the bench got hit with coins being tossed from the IU faithful again. That was an ugly incident but not nearly as ugly as what was said to the foreign players from Maryland a few years ago when they came into Bloomington. Good thing Purdue doesn't have any foreign players on their roster. The crowd was not flat, it was pretty good. They were more subdued mid game as the lead was substantial. Most people had been out in the great weather and at the bars and restaurants all day, so they may have been sleepy.
Watching the recordings after the pu and especially the Iowa game, the production companies definitely block the crowd noise. Crowd was well behaved considering 8,000 kids that had been at the bars. There was one vulgar chant that was up in the balcony behind us early in the second half when the fouls got to 5-0, fortunately it lasted about four seconds.
I hope the few PU fans that were there behind the bench were treated well, but I imagine somebody just had to show their ass.
Van, they practically have the same record and Purdue has played a helluva harder schedule than Iu.You're probably right, beating a middle of the pack team is always more important than beating the team you're fighting with for first place in the league.

ESPN is way too much into self-promotion, rather than showing a good game. I get so tired of them spotlighting their announcers. It also drives me nuts when they are two main announcers are promoting another upcoming game on ESPN rather than talking about the great action going on right in front of them.
Van, I agree 100%. Myt wife gets upset when I start yelling at the announcers to stay on the game. I want to know who committed the foul and who got the rebound. I watch the game to see the teams. I could care less about who announces, and I don't want to hear about their next game.I've watched games that were kinda of a blowout and the announcers quit talking about the game completely, Dakich is bad about this.
This is the dumbest comment I've ever read. Their super bowl? They are competing for a big ten title. They just beat the 8th place team in the conference. Wouldn't say Super Bowl. It's one of those games you try not to over look because your opponent is so bad. And super bowl is the final game of the season. A championship game. Purdue has never been there. This was just the smallest of speed bumps on the way to a big ten title.
Great picture! Are you sure this is the basketball line? Maybe the kids thought it was for free condoms.Oh, it was the highest pinnacle of success under Tom Crean. Students camped out, and lined up as far as the eye could see, just for the opportunity of seeing IU possibly beat Purdue. They know that's a rare thing, and wanted to be there if it actually happened. Also, Purdue is willing to lose to IU every 3 or so years if that helps Crean gets an extension. I really think this was a win-win for everyone involved.

You do realize that IU beat Purdue by double digits four times in a row in 2012 and 2013 including what I believe was Purdue's worse home loss ever...right?
I've been to both many times. Both are loud but Mackey is easily the louder of the two. It just is due to the metal roof and the economy of space. My son took a buddy of his from Purdue with him to the game. Both of them said it was very loud..
This coming from the fanbase that chants "IU sucks" during EVERY game, regardless of opponent.
Nice to see you back Wawasee! My son took a buddy of his from Purdue with him to the game. Both of them said it was very loud..
Are you sure that picture was from Saturday?... there is sidewalk chalk visible on the concrete, which isn't exactly a common sight during winter with the regular moisture.Oh, it was the highest pinnacle of success under Tom Crean.
