(Insert “think” joke here), but, let’s say they give them that TD in OT. What makes UT fans think Purdue doesn’t score a TD to tie it.
Do they not realize Purdue gets the ball as well or did they think it was sudden death?

Best case scenario for them is they get a penalty for pulling the runner over the goal line, and have 4th down from the 6, and kick a field goal.

This is not what Vol fans are mad about… we will never know what Purdue would’ve done had they given Tennessee the TD. What has Tennessee fans and many college football fans pressed across the nation is that the referees completely disregarded that our RB got his arm across the goal line prior to the whistle being blown… and sure our tight end might’ve tried to pull him closer to the goal line but the refs can not say that he didn’t score bc they missed that penalty, nor can they throw a flag after reviewing the play. It all comes down to the simple fact that you teach football players to play til the whistle, and our RB did that and got screwed by the refs bc of it.

Where you on the field to hear the whistle?

Same mindset that had them believing they would throttle us the entire game. It just how they approach every game…assuming that they will win them all.

Nobody got screwed…

Do you know what "stopped forward progress" means?
Did you not see your RB completely stopped, laying on top of two Purdue defenders and THEN, and only THEN, does the UT TE grab him and try to pull him into the endzone at which time, the RB then reaches the ball out.
BUT, BUT, did you also see the ref running into the play waving his hands signaling the ball dead?
Regardless, even with a TD, UT wasn't stopping Purdue and you would have lost anyway.
Keep crying though, maybe they'll eventually change the call.

Watch the video man! He scores the TD, and then the play is ruled dead, also the rb legs never stopped moving and they didn’t push our rb back, therefore forward progress never stopped. As for Purdue’s offense, it’s untold what would’ve happened if Purdue needed a TD. He could’ve score but could’ve also thrown INT #4….

Here comes another "coach" who thinks he knows the rules. The game's over. Take the L and go home...

Hmmm…never stopped? The only thing keeping him moving was the TE pulling him in the forward to the end zone

His legs did stop. There was no forward movement for a couple heartbeats, then the tight end started pulling on him and he reached out. By then the ref had signaled end of play and was running forward to spot the ball. No TD, no way.

watched the video several times, including all the replays at the time. He was stopped (and the officials all agree with me).
You don't get to stopped, let the defense let up, get some ILLEGAL pull help from your TE, and then start again by reaching over the goal line. BUT, when the TE tried to illegally pull him into the endzone, the ref recognized he wasn't going forward any further and ran in blowing the play dead.
You lost. Go eat some possum and try to forget about it.

His left leg didn’t stop moving and he takes a big step right before he reaches the ball out into the end zone…. I will admit y’all played a great game and y’all’s QB is legit and I hate that y’all’s win is shadowed by this missed call.

Have your Ma make you a "Music City Bowl Champions 2021" tee shirt if that'll make ya feel better.
(by the way, your RB was stopped at the 1....)

#88 starts pulling the ball carrier more than a yard from the end zone. This is illlegal and the only reason the ball carrier got any closer than one yard out. At best there is a penalty and you get a field goal attempt. We still beat you by 3 after scoring a TD.

The fact remains progress was stopped, legs moving but that was not propelling the ball carrier. The only thing moving the ball carrier was the pull of #88. Why the official called it short and why the review was so quick. There was nothing there.

Exactly, it was at the 1 that #88 started to pull the ball carrier and the only reason he moved forward from the 1.

Look here’s what I gathered out of watching …

Tennessee was more athletic. However, on defense there seemed to be some of the effort, physicality and in-sync issues that we’ve seen between spack and lambert (and even late spack). Offensively, their passing game seemed to be more of a function of moving defenders to create wide open looks. In other words, Hendon hooker would be a lot worse of a passer in an I-formation 21 look than Aidan oconnell, who is able to read defenses faster and better and find passes that aren’t just a function of spacing.

So that if we had our full squad even without karlaftis OR bell (since, to be fair, they had a corner leave early too).. this game would have likely been about 48-32 Purdue even if the officiating was perfect.

Tennessee fans don’t realize.. Andrew Solinski got in the game on the first drive at wide receiver. Solinski is a walk on that probably wouldn’t start in the Mac

By the way my analysis is a big reason it’s beyond stupid to criticize Oconnell for anything in this game. Why don’t you put drew Brees out there in 2000, take away Tim Stratton and Vinny sutherland and see what happens.. brees could have still played like drew Brees and not looked so good throwing to AT Simpson and Seth morales as the starting options along with Standeford

Simple as this...they were VERY fortunate to convert on the first 4th down attempt on that series...and, if they could not convert from the 1, with the "heavy" personnel package and what not...they should be mad/disappointed in themselves.

Heupel was incredibly arrogant, and, it backfired.

Ultimately, the mere fact that it even came down to that and having to "be pressed" about anything is what really should bother Vol fans...the fact that they were even in that position because of their HC being arrogant and them completely looking past Purdue is what should be most bothersome to them...not an alleged "missed" call.

Whistle is irrelevant. The ref was moving in to stop the play before he reached out. It's a subjective call and the ref made his call.

Good grief, dude. How often do you need to be told, on the forward progress call the whistle is irrelevant.

No.

You can keep carping on about this. The whistle is irrelevant. The referee ruled the play dead. It was at that moment the play was over, not when the whistle was blown.

Wow.

The win has no shadow. The loss (for you) is only magnified by being such poor losers.

By the way, you have every reason to b*tch about your coach. HORRIBLE play-calling at various periods throughout the game, and especially screwing the game in regulation.

That's just inexcusable. Heuple is your scapegoat, not the referees.

no matter what UT fans think, if we were behind or tied, just throw the ball in the direction of UT's #4 for an easy TD or PI.

Guess I'll have to live with my shadow, and just keep smiling :)

Several referees have chimed in on this, mostly Terry McAulay, that blowing the whistle does not matter. The ref waving his arms does. The play was over because his forward progress was stopped.

So far from the truth I would think you're my ex-wife.

The hilljacks HAVE to believe they were robbed.

Forget the fact that we were without our top 2 players and other starters.
Forget the fact that the hilljacks had a home game.
Forget the fact that the game they went around running their mouths about blowing us out in was already in overtime before the call.
Forget the fact that even if the officials ignored the penalty for pulling a player into the end zone, we would've matched the touchdown and beaten them with a two-point conversion anyway.

They HAVE to believe they were screwed out of the game because recognizing the reality that they hired a coach with a gimmick offense that most decent opponents figured out after one quarter THE FIRST TIME they played against it, and that this 7-6 season was probably the best they'll ever have under HYPE-L, is a reality they can't allow themselves to face.

Bottom line. We won. We were the better team. We were a vastly superior team at full strength. Tennessee has the worst fans I've ever seen anywhere.
