ESPN duped into airing a fake game. Is there fraud or other types of issues happening here?

I know we have had or possibly currently have a player on the roster, but there seems to be something wrong with this program. Scheduling vs a fake team has got to reflect on IMG as well as the fake charter school.

Which roster? IMG or Bishop?

Haha...good question.
Bishop was definitely fake. IMG has questionable practices, that if an investigator or auditor dug deep enough will likely find fraud. Update: Mark Riddell is an easy find for fraud and is attached to IMG.
Wasn’t that guy fired once the admission scheme was revealed, and wasn’t IMG cleared of any wrongdoing. Have never heard they were fraudulent or shady. What have they done?

Scheduled a fake high school for a nationally televised ESPN game. That likely falls into wire fraud and ESPN is not too amused by throwing inferior athletes(meat) to the Lion(IMG). ESPN put out a formal apology and is taking it out on their contracted Paragon marketing team behind the scenes. Apology appears in the link below.

If you read the article, it doesn’t implicate IMG at all. Looks like ESPN’s third party facilitator dropped the ball on this one.

Yes, Paragon marketing dropped the ball. However, IMG from athletic director to coach had to know they were not playing a legit high school. News I picked up on is that Bishop Sycamore is a Park in Ohio and nothing more than that. How can you schedule a school you cannot find online?

This was essentially a pre-season scrimmage for IMG. Why does it matter who they play? I’m not sure how you can look at this and put any blame on IMG. The blame falls on Bishop Sycamore for running a scam and ESPN for getting played. ESPN wanted to show an IMG game but did not have an opponent for them, so they reached out to a shady promotion company to find one. IMG just showed up and beat the brakes off them. Not sure how that’s IMG’s fault.

Before we get too hopeful that IMG gets the piss taken out of them, let's keep in mind that Coach Wright came from there. If anything illegal happened, we don't need any of that making its way to Bloomington through association.
Who the hell is Coach Wright? And please send trouble to Bloomington ASAP.

Don't give a crap if it makes its way to Bloomington. You forget you were on the Purdue board?

When a Bishop Sycamore player gets an injury requiring surgery, long term care or more, who pays for that? I guarantee with 100% certainty, a lawyer would make sure that ESPN, Paragon Marketing, IMG, IMG AD and IMG coach would all have lawsuits and some explaining to do in court (or settlement).
That is why an actual sanctioned game be played so that a false Bishop Sycamore doesn't play two football games in a weekend which is what happened.
There are plenty of football factories in several states that would have played IMG legitimately & not bring litigious risks to IMG, IMG AD and IMG coaches, IMG parent of player who injured a Bishop Sycamore athlete. I suspect a few pro athletes son's play on that IMG team. If that game isn't sanctioned, look out!

I'm not a sue happy person at all, but I could see this unfold horribly wrong.

That’s quite a leap here. Unless the injury was from some blatantly illegal act, how would anyone at IMG be held liable? Injuries happen all the time in sports, especially in football. Do teams get sued when a kid tears an ACL during a game? If anything that’s, again, on the coach and administration of Bishop Sycamore. You can “guarantee with 100% certainty” that IMG will have lawsuits, but you would also be 100% wrong. There would be zero grounds for a lawsuit against IMG.

IMG played Sycamore last year. Hell Warren Central played Sycamore a few years back. As far as ESPN goes, they could air paint drying if they wanted too. Neither IMG or Sycamore are sanctioned by the state high school associations in which they reside, they theoretically could play whoever they wanted to.

I don't believe IMG did anything wrong here.

They were playing a fake high school not sanctioned by any state athletic association organization. I.E. like IHSAA in Indiana, WIAA here in Wisconsin, FHSAA in Florida, etc, etc. A non-sanctioned game against a fake school with multiple juco players on the other team. Does this not scream of problems if injuries occur?
Where did the game happen, who allowed it to happen, who paid for it to happen, who will pay for this injured athletes hospital bill/surgery/rehab? Fraud all the way thru. IMG has release waivers for sure, but does Bishop Sycamores?
Again, I'm not an attorney, but I've stayed at multiple Holiday Inn Expresses over the years, and recently visited my attorney for a load of paperwork signing down to minute detail. This SCREAMS of fraud and negligence.
I never watched that crappy game nor would I, but when announcers are talking about the game dangerously lopsided and out of hand, people in charge would be the first to be served litigious lawsuits had anything gone wrong since it was never sanctioned by any governing body that includes IMG.

I see everything wrong with this setup from IMG to fake team Bishop Sycamores. Thankfully, no serious injuries happened.

Yeah, not a problem for IMG to schedule a scam artist school. They dodged a bullet playing a real school "Bishop Sycamores". The horror story actually gets crazier, not paying bills, athletes stealing from supermarkets for food. Wow, just wow! Ohio Governor is putting an investigation on this charter school.

A scam artist leaching off young athletes and has an oustanding warrant per the article.
After reading that article, I'm convinced criminal charges will be coming to Head coach Roy Johnson from "Bishop Sycamores".

I don’t see anyone absolving Bishop Sycamore of their wrongdoing. I fail to see how/why IMG is at fault? How is it IMG’s fault that Bishop Sycamore fraudulently played their way into this game? For fraud to have occurred, one party would have had to be duped (IMG) or otherwise it isn’t fraud.

ESPN and IMG dodged a bullet. That is all.
Add an injury to that equation and without proper paperwork, guys like David Gruber "one call that is all" will be calling. Who will pay that kids bill? Who is responsible for him playing, who sanctioned this event? Keep the questions coming and cash register ringing.

Have ESPN and/or opponents of teams whose players get injured been known to cover medical costs? I’m not sure how that correlates here? I’m guessing the players/parents of Bishop Sycamore signed some kind of consent form and if they didn’t they’d sue the high heavens out of whoever is responsible for putting together Sycamores program.

Again, not sure how this falls on IMG or ESPN.

Agree with your last sentence,
yet we disagree on ignorance being bliss on the other parties for “not knowing”.

Ignorance is one thing. Sure IMG shouldn’t have scheduled Bishop Sycamore to begin with and ESPN should have done their due diligence on who they were actually airing. But neither dodged a liability bullet.

isn't Danny Kannell a coach down there?

No, Danny Kannell never coached there. Another former FSU QB Chris Weinke was the head coach for several years before he went back to the NFL.

Former Purdue and Warren Central player Desmond Tardy has been the WR coach down there for several years. He joined the staff when Kevin Wright was hired and has stayed on ever since.

thanks Joe, I had the right former school but wrong QB and name.

There are several Purdue ties to IMG at the moment. Believe Cris Dishman is still on their staff. And let's not forget a certain basketball recruit from IMG who continues to make headlines for Purdue sports. Regardless of the topic game debacle, the Purdue-IMG connection has the possibilities of a good relationship for both institutions.

Curious, is the Longboat in your handle in reference to Longboat Key by chance?

Good memories. Grandparents had a place at The Colony for nearly 30 years before their passing. Did I read recently it was abandoned and no more?
In court for over 10 yrs, then torn down 3 yrs ago. New resort supposedly being built on the site. President Bush spent the night there, the night before 9/11. Their tennis pro and program became the eventual roots of IMG Academy

It was leveled a few years ago. The Colony was the original home of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

Knew it had a ton of tennis history, however did not know that about Bush. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
