Welcome Raymond Ellis (Ray Ellis) JUCO DT

GOFJ, I too am of the Leroy Keyes generation fan like you and I dearly hope that Ellis works out to be a great player for us but 6'4" and 310# (if valid) comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The Alabamas and the Notre Dames were not fighting tooth and nail to get this guy. Nor were the Iowas and the Arkysaws. Nor the Indianas and the Kansas'.

I hope he's a great athlete for us but I'll believe it when I see it on the field.

I just copied and pasted:

Ellis is a 2-star defensive tackle listed at 6’2”, 260 pounds. He comes from the same school that gave us David Hedelin, a 4-star offensive tackle that was a two-year starter under Hazell. His team was 7-4 last season. He played in nine of those games and he had 14 tackles with two sacks. In his first season he had 1.5 sacks in limited action.

admittedly he did not receive a lot of offers upon completion of his season or during the first JuCo signing period. Much like a scouting combine, it appears he worked with his coach to bulk up in the past 4 months and earn a visit and scholarship. Somebody at Purdue must have liked what they saw last week.

Agreed. Maybe we found a "diamond in the rough", given he was overlooked, maybe added 30-40 pounds of good muscle, hopefully he can get on campus soon and start working with the Strength Coaches and get "PUMPED UP BABY"

Don't forget this: ". His team was 7-4 last season. He played in nine of those games and he had 14 tackles with two sacks."

I hope he's all-B1G next year but right now my Wow Meter is not atwitchin'.
At this point, we don't need 'Wow Meter' players for next season. We need guys who will come in, work hard, play with intensity, and set a new standard and culture at Purdue. The next two recruiting cycles is for pulling in guys that can come in and make a difference.

Considering how thin we are at DT., if he can show the motor evident in his highlight film he will play unless he gets hurt...he looks like he has a proportional body type with big thighs and short arms and he looks every bit of a 300 Lb'er to me not 260!

if you read his tweets, you can see he made a lot of progress with his coach to bulk up and gain attention from other schools. 4-6 of his team-mates received scholarship offers including one to Hawaii .
