Happy Friday & welcome to this week's rendition of the "Weekly Upload".

There is plenty of football and basketball recruiting information for this week. An update on women's bracketology and Purdue's magic number to their 25th Big Ten Title. I hope everyone has a great upcoming weekend. Boiler Up!

Basketball Recruiting Updates

Jace reported this earlier in the week, but sources have told us that Purdue looks to be in the driver’s seat for 2024 point guard, Travis Perry. Perry is one of two players in the history of Kentucky HS basketball to ever score over 4,000 points. He also has now scored over 1,000 points during this season alone, only the 28th player in Kentucky history to do so.

He scored 61 points in a game last week as well. He has been to campus a variety of times, the last two times. He came twice in January on back-to-back weekends, as his mom missed the first visit.

Purdue will host 2024 commit tomorrow Jack Benter on campus, again. He is a solid verbal commit to Purdue and is a scoring threat at all three levels on the court. He and his Brownstown Central team will host Orleans High School this evening, Orleans is 20-2, so it should be a great contest.

Here is a link to watch the game live.

E.J. Walker will also be on campus for the IU game for an unofficial visit, he has been to Purdue a variety of times now. The 6-7, 225 forward from Kentucky is as versatile as it gets. He is in the class of 2025, but Purdue has remained consistent in his recruitment.

Dayton Forsythe is another name to watch for Purdue’s 2024 class as well. The sharpshooter from Oklahoma may be tough to grab out of Big 12 country, and does not yet have a Purdue offer, but is a name to monitor, just in case.

Lastly, Coach Painter went and saw Trent Sisley in southern Indiana again. Sisley is another priority for the 2025 class. It is thought that he may be hard to get out of the hands of IU, but Coach Painter will continue his pursuit of the top 50 prospect.

Caleb Furst’s younger brother plans to walk on at Purdue this upcoming year. He battled with Myles Colvin earlier this year and got the best of him. The 6-6 younger Furst is averaging 19 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Basketball Magic Number to Number 25

The magic number is now two for an outright Big Ten Championship. Purdue can clinch at minimum a share of the title Saturday Night against in-state rival, Indiana, in what has become a revenge game and a title game.

Purdue can clinch an outright title, by winning two of their last three games. Purdue hosts IU, travels to Wisconsin, and hosts Illinois for their last three games.

As has been the case all season, Purdue is in the driver’s seat for their 25th Big Ten Championship, which would extend their title lead, once again.

Football Recruiting Update

Purdue has entered the weekend before their big junior day, which will be next weekend, these often can lead to verbal commitments, expect Purdue to put a lot of effort into their Junior Days. They are still sending out junior day visit invitations. We will have a list of who we know will be coming during the middle of this coming week.

What I do know is that 4-star quarterback Marcos Davila will be there, he will be coming up from Texas. He is ranked the 14th-best pro-style quarterback in the 2024 class.

Purdue is also after 4-star Georgia Quarterback, Air Noland, which is a perfect name for a quarterback in the Air Raid System. He plans to visit later in the Spring, probably during April.

Ryan Walters made an early impact on 4-star athlete, Tysean Griffin, who is an athlete from Chicago, as Purdue was announced to be in his top 10 earlier this week.

Maybe the first time I have ever seen this at Purdue, but Ryan Walters and his staff offered an 8th-grade quarterback that is slated to be one of the highest-recruited quarterbacks in the 2027 class... 2027 is so so far away, so a lot could happen from now until then, obviously.

Purdue has offered Penn State defensive back transfer, Marquis Wilson.

Wilson would have one year of eligibility, he has played in 28 games during his career at Penn State. Totaling 55 tackles and 2 interceptions. He was a 3-star cornerback in the 2019 class.

Aside from what we have reported here, I can tell you that this Purdue staff is casting a much wider net than the past regime. I also believe that this staff has some solid connections in a variety of hotbeds across the nation.

Coach Conard, the running backs coach, has connections throughout the state of Indiana. Coach Harrell will mostly focus on Texas, which is great to have for Purdue. He and Offensive Line Coach, Matt Matttox should find quality players from the Lonestar state. Coach Patterson, the Associate Head Coach, and Wide Receiver’s Coach has deep-rooted connections in St. Louis, in which is an under-recruited area, in my opinion. Coach Carter will help with some of the southern states, as he has played and coached there. Coach Dineen and Defensive Coordinator, Kevin Kane should lead the way in the Great Plains. Kane and Dineen both played at Kansas and Dineen was an All-American there.

I personally really like how the new staff is approaching recruiting and it shows on Social Media, that they are always recruiting.

Football Tidbits

It appears that at least for the Spring Season, Purdue will move Tyrone Tracy Jr to run back to add depth and veteran experience in the backfield. Not a bad move, something I wanted to happen with the last staff, personally.

In a lot of Air Raid Systems, running backs catch the ball out of the backfield, Devin Mockobee showed he could do that last season, but now he will have a backfield mate that Purdue knows can help supplement in that area as well.

In addition to that, Purdue is transitioning some defensive ends to their new OLB positions, the Buck and Fox. The Buck is the boundary outside linebacker and the Fox is the field outside linebacker.

Outside Linebackers Coach, Joe Dineed believes he has guys that will play in the NFL in his meeting room. Guys like Nic Caraway, Kydran Jenkins, Joe Strickland, and Scotty Humpich will make the move from a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end to a stand-up outside linebacker that will have to both rush the passer and drop into coverage.

After watching more films on the Ryan Walters defense, what I gathered is that the boundary outside linebacker will be the better pass rusher and the field outside linebacker will be the more versatile player.

Someone to keep an eye on for the “Fox” position, in my opinion, is redshirt freshman Roman Pitre. Roman is 6-5, 240 pounds, and can move. He played all over the field in High School in Louisiana and the last staff had him at linebacker, where they valued athletes.

As for the rest of the front seven, Purdue will need some beef up front. You want an athletic nose that can move, but the “defensive ends” will probably look more like a traditional defensive tackle than a pass rusher, if that makes sense.

Women’s Bracketology Update

The Purdue Women blew out Penn State at home for a Senior Night victory. As I have stated several times before, Coach Katie Gearlds is doing a hell of a job of turning this program around.

The latest ESPN Women’s Bracketology has Purdue as a 10 seed against 7 seed North Carolina State. With how the current bracketology sits, if Purdue won in the first round, they would likely play LSU. The Tigers are currently 26-1 and have only lost one game in the Southeastern Conference to number one South Carolina.

The number one seed in the region Purdue is projected to be in? Stanford, who is a women’s basketball powerhouse.
