Early part of the Mully and Hanley show on 670 the Score. They were discussing Illinois and how stupid they are to give a coach a 2 year deal- how it will not help recruiting and how the next AD will hire his own guy. They discussed how essentially the University has no one around without an "interim" tag. They were bagging on the situation and someone said (maybe David Haugh who lives in Indiana) "At least they are not Purdue!" They got a laugh and then they brought up how John Shoop had been let go. They reminisced about the 3rd and 12 draw plays and 5 yard outs.

So we have that relevancy.

Kravitz was just talking about Purdue on Dakich's show. Basically said that Hazell has one more year, and then the program will be forced to go in a different direction. In their eyes, the lack of recruiting has killed Purdue. Great quote: "They are a mid-major program trying to compete in the Big Ten".

This really says it all. We are competitive with MAC teams but we certainly have lost our share to them.

I continue to be amazed we find ourselves in this mess after all of the success we had with Tiller. How we let that momentum get away from us is mind boggling.

To be fair, Tiller himself lost the momentum he had once had. His recruiting the last few years left a lot to be desired.

To be really fair, Joe lost his enthusiasm when he couldn't get financial commitment from Burke to pay assistants and upgrade facilities while he saw monies being committed to the non revenue sports. Tiller would have been more successful and hung around long had the support been in place.

Burke shares a big part of this blame. Travel restrictions, lower assistant salaries (they are the recruiters), facility non upgrades, not listening to Tiller's wishes for a successor . Burke simply made the wrong decisions. I sure he wishes had done things differently but, he is responsible for them.

I am not sure Burke wishes he had done things differently because in his mind it is not his fault.

A man's got to know his limitations,

Right and we don't have to be. I don't agree with that statement they made on the show, Purdue is a major university and has a huge following in the area. Purdue has major historical significance in the country and should really start thinking about zeroing in on this stadium issue. We need some wow factor, just enough even to propel the program forward to reasonable levels. Purdue fans aren't even asking for preeminence, but just if nothing else a unique identity with respect the the stadium and atmosphere that can be tolerated on TV that puts us on an even playing field with the rest of the teams in the conference. The problem is Burke isn't smart enough to capitalize on what Purdue has going for it. He just thinks he can half bake a farce and not have the consequences. There is only one thing Purdue has to do to improve this football situation more than anything else. Improve the stadium. The South endzone is a start, but something major is needed that puts us back on the map permanently. It doesn't have to be Alabama, but as I like to say, it has to be as good as a Minnesota. Purdue has the numbers of students and alumni alike that can be a top tier team. It truly is a unique university and has so much potential. We have the theme. Problem is Burke doesn't give Purdue fans a home. We need to start there. Burke's number one job should be building Purdue a home, then Purdue can have the family. We put the family in a trailer and we get called trailer trash. It really is that simple. We put the family in a nice looking house and suddenly we get respect. You put the family in a trailer people like to laugh. Burke needs to get us out of the trailer trash and into the nice house on the block. It doesn't have to be the biggest mansion in the neighborhood, but we don't need to to be the only trailer in the nice neighborhood either. Because it is hard to criticize a school that doesn't win titles that looks damn good on TV. Easy though to criticize the team in the trailer. I really think that character weighs in on these kids too. If they had a home they'd play like they have a home. You want to be big, build big, then the kids play to character of their home. Every student at this university needs to be on this administration's azz to get this done. Priority 1. The Home.

I must disagree with you in that Purdue does have a home. We are also putting $60million in more enhanced football facilities, I really cannot imagine wtf could be done to Ross-Ade to make it a "home" in you eyes that is not already there. What we need is an energetic football staff who can go out and recruit aggressively and who can coach them after they come to Purdue. We have had neither for a long time, starting with Tiller retiring on the job and continuing with letting Tiller select Hope as his successor.

Tiller did not pick his successor. He chose Brock Spack. Morgan wanted someone with "Head Coach experience." Of the guys Tiller had to pick from, he had to choose a guy he worked with. In hindsight, if you are not picking the guy Tiller wanted, don't do a succession.

Enough of the bullcrap. No coach of any Big Ten program can win eight games twice in three years by retiring on the job.

Both Hope and Hazell and their staffs were hired for their enthusiasm and energy. And look where we are now. 6-30. Nothing but energy.

I support the football facility, but it would be nice if the athletic director could put the effort into actually bringing that into the stadium, something that is where Purdue fans live. A home is a place people live.

These are homes: Are you saying we are on the level of our competition? I don't think anyone in here thinks so. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. We need a rebuild in a major kind of way right now. Like it or not this is the competition. Get on board with them or be the trailer. I don't want to be the trailer. Be honest. Are you saying that our stadium is on par with the competition we face? Surely you jest.

If this is the home that satisfies Purdue fans then I live in Trump Plaza Manhattan. This needs dramatically improved.

Is this really how we are going to roll in the Big Ten compared to these other schools? Who the hell is responsible for this? They need fired immediately. Is this going to represent a flagship on national TV for the university? We need some serious home improvement here. Serious!!!!

But remember... Chicagoans were all seeing things with shoop. He was a week and anyone who didn't think so was just a disgruntled Bears fan.

What's hilarious is that Purdue has been getting well against Indiana in most years

I'm kind of lost on this thread. I do like all of the pictures. Although a jam packed photo shopped Ross Ade would fit well with the other pretty pictures.

I do think that facilities are an issue. That is being partially addressed with the upcoming capital project. However for the next step - there will need to be improvement on the field.

My $.02. The Big 10 is weak when it comes to football. So for us to get to be a bowl eligible team should not be that big of a stretch. Hopefully this coordinator change will do the trick - but I'm skeptical. I think we are 2-4 years out from a bowl. The issue with that is...attendance will continue to decline making further football investments difficult.

It's a mess (sigh). Fixing something from rock bottom is hard. Hopeful lesson. We never approach rock bottom again.

It's just one small example but we were there for the spring game in April - entered through the south east corner of the stadium - I was shocked to see large sections of crumbling concrete in the seating areas.
Realize it was the off season - but it was a mess

All Part of Morgan's plan: he knew that entire section of the stands would be empty, so why waste the money on repairs?

Lights for one thing so Purdue does`t have to play every game at 12:00.Dress up the exterior where it looks like a football stadium. There are MAC schools that have better looking facilities. Recruits are pick-e and we have to compete with the MAC right now for recruits. We sure can`t sell them on the coaching staff!!!

The stadium has absolutely nothing to with winning!! Look at those first couple of pictures...the difference is that they are full of people!
Had you ever been to the old Chicago Stadium? It was a dump before they retired it. But people loved it! Ask Jordan and Pippen if the old stadium cost them any victories!

The stadiums are not for us on Saturdays but to get recruits to come play here in June, July, December, January.

yep in recruiting purdue 101, miami of ohio 93, toledo 66, western michigan 53. so 4th in the mac with a bunch of teams just behind. in the 2014 class western out recruited purdue 59 to 72. by keeping hazzell for another year recruiting should be even worse next year. making it even more difficult for the next coach
