We are on Big Ten Network

Gearlds has far greater issues than just Notre Dame and Kentucky. When you're taking 30 point beatings from basically everyone, you're in deep trouble. Our average margin of loss in the Big is probably approaching 30 points per game. Winning isn't everything, but how much fun can it be to be get your butt kicked every game? We're 0-9, it doesn't look likely that we will rack up wins against anyone anytime soon.
February 2nd is crucial, lose that game and our only hope is hosting NU to avoid a winless Big Ten season.

Up to this point, no doubt. I'm going to give her some grace. Still a frosh who missed a year of basketball with injury. Let's see what she looks like down the stretch and into next season.
She looks like she has not received any competent coaching the last two years. She is tentative, timid and shows very little offensive skills or defensive intensity. Layden, Jones, and Swanson all look better than her and two of those weren't ranked.

CKG like her teacher before her averages 2-4 transfers out a year. After this cluster I see no reason not to expect some of these girls to be sick of looking pathetic and want to go somewhere they can actually receive competent coaching.
They’ll be players that leave and move down a level, this has to be miserable. Poole getting hurt sucked as well, Purdue needs her to play and get experience. I don’t see much hope from any players on this team, I’d play the younger ones and hope they develope, just not sure they’re any good as far as Big Ten caliber. The Reynolds sisters are an enigma, at this point neither has shown anything, I play the Frosh, maybe she’ll gain confidence, these were high 4 star (top 50-60) rated players, they look like MAC level at best to me. I hate to be so down on kids but this is what I see.

When every ranked kid CKG has coached looks like a scrub, you have to start looking at coaching and not the talent of the players. As I keep pointing out we are more talented than MSU on paper, who is only two years away from a losing season and are now top 6 in the conference.

It's possible, never say never. CKG might even have "the talk" with a couple players. There's only a few that seem like they could play in the big ten.

While Painter has some limitations of his own, he has been able to take unheralded, unranked players and developed them into something special. Whether it's skill development, empowerment, or applying offensive / defensive schemes to best use their abilities, his guys improve. Gearlds' players appear to regress.

Yeah Robyn Fralick is impressive. Her resume at BG wasn't even that spectacular, but she has it rolling.

If/when CKG doesn't work out, do we look at a mid major up and coming coach? I'd be ok if the coach doesn't have Purdue ties, get the best coach available.

That's exactly how I would of described her play most of this season.. tentative, timid. That's why yesterday felt a little different, looked like she was more confident in herself. With Poole most likely out the next few games, Amiyah should get more PT.

At this point Purdue ties should be a dis-qualifier considering the massive dumpster fire SV and KG have created out of a once proud top ten program.

Mid major head coach or top assistant at a great program. I wanted Shea Ralph when Gearlds was hired, but Bobo the clown didn't want to put any effort in, so he offered the job to White, got blocked by Vandy then offered Gearlds. No attempt made to find the best or even a good coach, just one with Purdue ties.

The only players that don't look Big Ten capable are three of the four transfers CKG brought in and keeps playing far too many minutes. The rest just look like they need someone competent to coach them, which they are very clearly not getting. Again, if nearly every ranked player CKG has coached (7 of 8) looks like an untalented scrub picked up from the co-rec, then you should be focused on the coaching staff and not saying the kids lack talent.

Did Gearlds not conduct a post game interview last night? Curious as to whether she still claims we are improving each game, but haven't been able to locate a vid.

Dreaming is free, so is believing in the tooth fairy, but no one does once they are a rational person.

This is CKGs first year with a team of her construction. This is who she is a a coach. She has not shown any hints that she and her staff can develop talent that they get. Recruiting is in fact her only strength as a coach I can see. Roster construction is an F, player development is an F, game day coaching is a D at best, offensive and defensive schemes are an F. She is unlikely to develop those skills while trying to coach up a terrible team of her own construction.
What I meant is that anyone who thinks Purdue is about to fire CKG needs to wake up from the sweet dream, because I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon

Oh, I have few delusions about how crappy our AD is or how little he cares about women's sports. IF we were a competently run Athletic department CKG would be dismissed at the end of the season, but we are being run like a MEAC level program with an AD that is in WAY over his head same as CKG is.

Yes, always looking for bargains that most of the time don’t work out. I think CKG has 3 years to sink or swim, then if she sinks it will be another attempt at winning the coach-hiring powerball.

IMHO, she had enough time to sink or swim and has sunk to the bottom of the lake with her coaching assistants acting as an anchor. If it was my decision, I would pay her the $2 mil (and ask her to only take $1 mil because she loves Purdue so much lol!) and move on after this year. She'll get another year, but I don't think she gets pass after next year. I doubt next year will be much different, but I'm confident there will be some changes in the assistant coaches after this year's debacle.

Her contract runs through the 2028-29 season. And after the financial hit Purdue just absorbed with the football program I’d be shocked if she is terminated before the end of her contract. But I’ve been wrong before, so we’ll see

Hope you're right about a change in assistant coaches.. there was an noticeable shift in the program once Stephens and Komara were brought on.

If Bobo the clown leaves her in place that long, I'd just as soon he canceled the program if he won't properly manage it.

I think it's more to do with the problems in chemistry brought on by all the portal transfers

Harper and Reynolds were the only transfers brought in last year and barely played until the end of the season when Caitlyn went down. I don't think they were the reason for last years issues.

As sad as it sounds, we'd be even worse off this season if Lombard, Collier, and Bass weren't around to help us win those non-con games. Lombard and Collier are our 2 best shooters.

Heck with no Mila, Smith, Harper, and then you take out the 4 transfers we'd only have 7 players left.

I just watched the 4th Q of Iowa vs NW - final score was 85-80. NW sure didn’t look like a winless (B10) team - in fact they were down 10 points with around 2 min to play and closed to within 3, I think. Game was AT Iowa.

I bring this up b/c I think somewhere in this thread, or another recent one, someone mentioned NW as a possible win for Purdue. If NW plays like they did tonight, I’m not sure that happens.
They showed a graphic on TV that NW has the most losses (six) by 2 scores or less in the Big 10. So it seems less likely, to me, that Purdue can pull out a win - especially if they play like they did vs Illinois. Plus so many of out recent losses are by double digits - doesn’t bode well

Collier is serviceable against sub 200 .NET teams and useless in the Big Ten. Bass is softer than Charmin bath tissue, and Petree is a mindless chucker that barely even tries to play defense. And maybe without all the portal kids, we would have Smith and Harper playing now. They certainly could not be worse than Collier, Bass, and Petree.

I think the chemistry damage was done with bringing in the elder Petree who like her baby sister was only about getting her points and barely played any team concept ball at all.

I watched part of the game. Of the folks thinking Northwestern might be a win, as Lee Corso would say "not so fast my friends". Time will tell but Northwestern certainly looked decent last night.

Guessing Purdue pulls off a win or two, if not how do you spin a winless Big Ten season? My hope would be Purdue pulls in a good transfer or two, talking about capable girls that might be lost on a good teams bench, enough of the 8-10 point a night players from mid level programs. Not sure Purdue has the resources to do this though, if not I’ll be out on women’s hoops, if admin doesn’t care why should I? It’s a shame, women’s hoops has always been my third favorite Purdue sport behind Men’s hoops and football, I’ve went and watched a ton of games through the years, this product is garbage, hoping it changes, I wish someone would ask the AD about this mess.

Time for the fans to bombard Bobo’s email!

And tonight UWisc upset UMich, 82-75. Going winless in conference is starting to not only look possible, but likely.
